Opis:
The aim of the study was to determine the effect of thermal treatment in a convection-steam oven on the textural properties of Jerusalem artichoke tubers. The thermal treatment was continued for 5, 10, 15, 20, and 30 minutes at various levels of steam addition (0, 20, 60, and 100%). The thermal treatment in the convection-steam oven was shown to have a significant effect on the hardness, chewiness, and cohesiveness of the product. The thermal processing methods analysed in this study did not exert a significant effect on the elasticity of the Jerusalem artichoke tubers. With an increase in the heating time, the mean values of the material hardness and chewiness declined and the cohesiveness of Jerusalem artichoke tubers increased. Application of higher volumes of steam resulted in a reduction of the mean values of hardness and chewiness of the product accompanied by a simultaneous increase in the mean cohesiveness values.

Opis:
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to develop and characterize novel gel formulations of oleogels and oleo-hydrogels (bigels) as topical drug delivery systems for ketoconazole (KET). Oleogels were prepared using paraffin oil, rapeseed oil or castor oil as a solvent and Aerosil® 200 as organogelator with addition of surfactant Tween 80. Bigels were prepared by mixing castor oil oleogels with sodium alginate hydrogel. The received formulations were analyzed microscopically, for pH, viscosity and the texture profile analysis was also conducted to examine the mechanical parameters. In addition, the in vitro release of KET was evaluated and ex vivo bioadhesive properties of obtained oleogels and bigels on the rat skin model were estimated. It was found that obtained formulations were non-Newtonian systems, showing a shear-thinning behavior and thixotropic properties, with proper textural features such as firmness, compressibility, adhesiveness. Moreover, they were characterized by beneficial bioadhesive properties. Prepared oleogels and bigels were considered as better formulations in terms of drug release compared to commercially available ketoconazole cream.

Opis:
This study presents the synthesis of geopolymer materials designed for application as self-supporting zeolite membranes. For this purpose, batches of metakaolin activated with sodium silicate and sodium hydroxide were used. During synthesis, it was assumed that low temperatures are sufficient to receive the membranes. The composition of raw materials and temperature of activation were selected in such a way so as to correspond to the basic chemical compositions and synthesis conditions of sodalite as well as zeolites A and X. Additionally, the structural and textural properties of geopolymers were determined. The results show that it is possible to obtain composite zeolite structures in an amorphous matrix. A number of synthesized materials were used in the sorption of selected heavy metal cations (Ni2+ , Zn2+ , Pb2+  and Cd2+ ). It was concluded that the investigated geopolymerization process may be applied to obtain a material with potential use as a heavy metal sorbent.

Opis:
A series of mixed oxides was synthesized by deposition of a guest phase on a highly dispersed oxide matrix. Fumed nanooxides SiO2, Al2O3, SiO2/Al2O3, and SiO2/Al2O3/TiO2 with the specific surface area of 65-91 m2/g were selected as highly dispersed matrices. NiO/FexOy was deposited as a guest oxide using solvate-stimulated modification of a surface of fumed nanocarriers with nickel nitrate and iron(III) formate and subsequent heat treatment up to 600 °C to form NiO/FexOy. The aim of this work was to study the influence of the composition and structure of fumed oxide matrices and deposited guest phase on the behavior of the composites in gaseous and aqueous media using XRD, nitrogen adsorption and SEM/EDX, and quasi-elastic light scattering (QELS) methods. The lowtemperature nitrogen adsorption isotherms have a sigmoid shape with a narrow hysteresis loop characteristic of mesoporous materials. The specific surface area of composites varies from 65 to 120 m2/g. SEM data show denser aggregate structure of nanocomposites compared to the initial carriers. The primary particle size was in the 30-60 nm range. According to QELS data, there is a tendency to form aggregates of 100 nm - 10 µm in size in the aqueous media. The XRD method shows that the deposited metal oxides are in the form of crystalline phases of NiO with crystallites of 7-23 nm in size, but the iron oxide reflexes were not identified for NiO-containing composites.
