Opis:
The paper presents the results of tribological research on AlSi12CuNiMg/5.7 wt.% Gr aluminium composite material (containing graphite particles in the amount of 5.7% wt.%) and on its matrix. This composite is used as high-tech construction material in the automotive industry, particularly for pistons, cylinder liners, and slide bearings. The tribological properties of these materials can be significantly changed as a result of the introduction of graphite particles. Therefore, wear tests have been carried out using the ball-on-disc tribometer. Microstructure and wear resistance of the matrix and composite alloy have been subjected to comparative analysis. It was demonstrated that the composite reinforced with graphite is characterized by a lower friction coefficient and lower wear in comparison to the matrix.
Artykuł przedstawia wyniki badań tribologicznych aluminiowego materiału kompozytowego AlSi12CuNiMg/5.7 wt.% Gr (zawierającego cząsteczki grafitu w ilości 5,7% wag.) i jego osnowy. Kompozyt ten znajduje zastosowanie jako nowoczesny materiał konstrukcyjny w przemyśle motoryzacyjnym, szczególnie na tłoki, tuleje cylindrowe i łożyska ślizgowe. Wprowadzenie cząstek grafitu znacząco może zmieniać właściwości tribologiczne tych materiałów. W tym celu wykonano testy zużycia na tribometrze typu kula-tarcza. Mikrostruktura i odporność na zużycie stopu osnowy i kompozytu zostały poddane analizie porównawczej. Wykazano, że kompozyt zbrojony grafitem charakteryzuje się mniejszym współczynnikiem tarcia i mniejszym zużyciem w porównaniu z osnową.

This research work address the fabrication of copper (Cu) matrix composites, reinforced with fly ash (FA) particulates with 3, 6, 9 and 12 wt.% using the powder metallurgy route. The microstructural, physical, electrical, thermal, mechanical and tribological properties of thus fabricated Cu-FA composites have been studied. Optical microstructural characterization of the composites exposed persuasively uniform distribution of FA reinforcement with minimum porosity. The mixed powder SEM images revealed the homogeneous dispersion of fly ash particulates in the copper matrix. The hardness values showed improvement with increase in the weight percentage of FA in the Cu matrix. Electrical conductivity was measured using the four-point probe method at room temperature. Thermal conductivity was measured with a thermal diffusivity analyzer at room temperature. The fly ash addition leads to weakening the conductivity of Cu-FA composites. The tribological properties of Cu-FA composite specimens were investigated using a Pin-on-disc tribo testing machine against an EN81 steel contour disc. The specific wear rate of the composites tended first to decrease, which was attributed mainly to the formation of a mechanically mixed layer on the worn surface. Then it would increase as the FA content increased because of reduction in ductility and brittle oxide cracks associated with adding more FA particulates. It seems that composites with FA percentages below 9wt.% have optimum properties of microstructure, hardness and wear resistance, which is suitable for applications such as electrical sliding contacts, electrical discharge machining and spot welding electrodes.

Opis:
The analysis of energy consumption in a hybrid drive system of a passenger car in real road conditions is an important factor determining its operational indicators. The article presents energy consumption analysis of a car equipped with an advanced Plug-in Hybrid Electric Drive (PHEV), driving in real road conditions on a test section of about 51 km covered in various environmental conditions and seasons. Particular attention was paid to the energy consumption resulting from the cooperation of two independent drive units, analyzed in terms of the total energy expenditure. The energy consumption obtained from fuel and energy collected from the car’s batteries for each run over the total distance of 12 500 km was summarized. The instantaneous values of energy consumption for the hybrid drive per kilometer of distance traveled in car’s real operating conditions range from 0.6 to 1.4 MJ/km, with lower values relating to the vehicle operation only with electric drive. The upper range applies to the internal combustion engine, which increases not only the energy expenditure in the TTW (Tank-to-Wheel) system, but also CO2 emissions to the environment. Based on the experimental data, the curves of total energy consumption per kilometer of the road section traveled were determined, showing a close correlation with the actual operating conditions. Obtained values were compared with homologation data from the WLTP test of the tested passenger car, where the average value of energy demand is 1.1 MJ/km and the CO2 emission is 23 g/km.

Currently, it is estimated that the construction sector consumes over 40% of the energy produced and about 50% of the mass of processed materials. As a consequence, there is a challenge to look for alternative material solutions allowing for the storage and conversion of energy. Phase change materials give us such opportunities. Their introduction leads to additional benefits related to thermal parameters. The work presents a short overview of PCMs along with the possibility of their application. Then, as part of the research, the selected phase change material was applied to the internal plaster layer of an external wall to check its activity. The obtained results were compared to the values of reference samples (without PCM). The proposed solution leads to the improvement of the analyzed partitions' thermal parameters.

Purpose: The work is connected with the current trend related to the modification of tool surfaces with PVD and CVD methods through the deposition of coatings to increase their durability. The research results of coated tools tests that are carried out in industrial conditions are presented in details. Design/methodology/approach: Structure, chemical and phase composition investigations related to the mechanical and tribological properties of coatings produced on tool substrates and analysis of the results are included. Investigations of the properties of deposited coatings on the following tool materials were made: high speed steels, hot work tool steel, sintered carbides and SiAlON tool ceramics. Findings: Interpretation of production tests results of coated tools and an analysis of the wear mechanisms of tool blades in relation to the properties of coatings and their adhesion, in particular characterized in the scratch test, were described. Research limitations/implications: Adhesion scratch test cannot be the only and final method of such evaluation. For example a direct comparison of the results of the scratch tests of coatings is possible when adhesion is being examined of different coatings yet on the same type of the substrate. Practical implications: Based on the adhesion test results using the scratch test, the suitability of the coatings produced on the cutting tools can be quickly assessed. Originality/value: It was sought those parameters which characterize the properties of coatings, ones which would permit to effectively/practically assess the performance of tools with coatings produced, with an exclusion or limitation of long-term and expensive durability tests of tools that are carried out in industrial conditions.
