Opis:
This paper presents the preliminary concept research to develop the test used in the measurement of emissions in real traffic conditions for passenger vehicles. Work based on the lack of legal solutions for determining the environmental performance of light vehicles – as opposed to heavy-duty vehicles for which such regulations have specified. The elaboration is to compare the emission test used in clinical approval of passenger cars, while the synthesis of the results obtained under different conditions road tests. The intention is to develop a test for assessing the ecological vehicle in real traffic conditions, where restrictions will only drive type (gasoline engine, diesel engine, hybrid vehicle), which is consistent with the requirements of the certification tests. The result should be the foundation for the development of the test in terms of: the duration, to determine the operating conditions and vehicle and proposals for emission limit values.

Opis:
The article compares driving test data using the latest legislative proposals applicable to passenger cars with different drives. For this purpose, cars of one type were selected, meeting the same exhaust toxicity standard (Euro 6c) and differing in used internal combustion engines (with spark-ignition, compression-ignition and hybrid drive). Several measurements were performed on the same test route in accordance with the RDE test guidelines, which requires a several of criteria to be met. These criteria include the length of the measuring sections, their overall timeshare and the dynamic characteristics of the drive. A portable emissions measurement system (PEMS) was used to record the engine and vehicle operating parameters and to measure the exhaust emissions during tests. This allowed for the monitoring of parameters such as: load value, engine speed and vehicle velocity. Then the obtained results were analyzed for their compatibility with the RDE procedure requirements. By determining the road emission of individual harmful compounds for all vehicles and the dynamic parameters of drive (relative positive acceleration and product of speed and positive acceleration) in various phases of the road test it was possible to compare them. On this basis, the impact of dynamic conditions of road tests on the obtained results of the road exhaust emission of harmful compounds for passenger cars with various drives was defined.

The issue of energy recuperation is increasingly found in modern cars (both electric and hybrid, as well as powered by a combustion engine only). Road conditions are one of the essential factors determining the appropriateness of using certain design solutions in braking energy recovery systems. This article presents an analysis of road conditions prevailing in a large urban agglomeration together with an evaluation of their usefulness for utilizing the braking energy. Road tests were carried out for this purpose, and their analysis used the Monte Carlo method to determine the pseudo-accidental courses.

Opis:
The analysis of energy consumption in a hybrid drive system of a passenger car in real road conditions is an important factor determining its operational indicators. The article presents energy consumption analysis of a car equipped with an advanced Plug-in Hybrid Electric Drive (PHEV), driving in real road conditions on a test section of about 51 km covered in various environmental conditions and seasons. Particular attention was paid to the energy consumption resulting from the cooperation of two independent drive units, analyzed in terms of the total energy expenditure. The energy consumption obtained from fuel and energy collected from the car’s batteries for each run over the total distance of 12 500 km was summarized. The instantaneous values of energy consumption for the hybrid drive per kilometer of distance traveled in car’s real operating conditions range from 0.6 to 1.4 MJ/km, with lower values relating to the vehicle operation only with electric drive. The upper range applies to the internal combustion engine, which increases not only the energy expenditure in the TTW (Tank-to-Wheel) system, but also CO2 emissions to the environment. Based on the experimental data, the curves of total energy consumption per kilometer of the road section traveled were determined, showing a close correlation with the actual operating conditions. Obtained values were compared with homologation data from the WLTP test of the tested passenger car, where the average value of energy demand is 1.1 MJ/km and the CO2 emission is 23 g/km.

The article compares data obtained in road tests with the latest legislative proposals relating to various applications of internal combustion engines. Passenger car emission tests have been performed several times on the same test route in accordance with the RDE procedure guidelines, for which a dozen or so criteria must be met, including the distance of each of the drive sections, their in the drive time and the dynamic characteristics of the drive. The analysis was also based on a two-dimensional operating density characterization, presented in the vehicle speed-acceleration coordinates. As a result, it was possible to compare dynamic properties, operating time density and, thus, to check the validity of conducted drive tests in terms of their feasibility and emission values. An exhaust emission related comparison of three types of powertrain have been presented: gasoline, diesel and hybrid in the RDE tests. The authors proposed a new form of presenting the road exhaust emissions results in relation to the carbon dioxide emission, referred to as a standardization of the emission results. The exhaust emissions from city buses fitted with different powertrains tested on an actual bus route and in the SORT test were also compared.

It was considered an influence of the velocity, at which the passenger car hits into the obstacle on the dynamic loads of the dummies in the front and back seats. For this purpose, the results of 28 crash tests published on the Internet by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (U.S.A.) were used. The crash tests of 14 models of the cars were conducted at two values of the impact velocity, at which the cars hits into a barrier (40 and 56 km/h, as well as 48 and 56 km/h). It was shown an influence of the impact velocity on the car deceleration and their deformation specification. It was paid attention to the loads of a driver and a passenger in the front seats (dummies representing a 5-centile men and 5-centile woman) and the passengers in the back seats (dummies representing a 5-centile woman and a 6-year-old child). During an evaluation of the dummy loads were employed the indicators of biomechanical impedance of the human body in respect of the effects of the impact loads related to the head, neck and chest. It was determined that an increase of the velocity at the moment of hitting into an obstacle from 40 km/h up to 56 km/h results in the increase in the risk of serious injury (AIS3+) of the 5-centile woman from 30÷60% to 35÷90%. Increasing the velocity at which a car hits an obstacle from 48 km/h up to 56 km/h results in the increase in the risk of severe injury of the 50-centile woman from 25÷40% to 30÷55%. It was emphasised that the effectiveness of the airbag may depend on the impact velocity, at which car hits the obstacle.
