Opis:: Two different propulsion systems are analyzed from point of view of future control applications. The traditional one consists of a pushing single screw propeller and a blade rudder. The other system is based on pod (pods): pulling or pushing ones. The equations describing forces and moments generated in both systems, are presented. Exemplary results of a simulation in comparison to the real-time experiments for two ships are also shown.

Opis:: The paper presents the results of 57 Drill Stem Tests (DST) within the Upper Jurassic carbonate rocks forming the Carpathian Fordeep basement in the area between Bochnia and Ropczyce (south Poland) performed by the Polish Oil and Gas Company in the years 1993 to 1998. Designated prospective horizons were tested with DST for assessing productivity of strata. DST tests were performed mostly in open hole sections of boreholes (more rarely in cased holes) after prior borehole casing perforation operations. In approximately 75% cases the cycle drill stem tests (DST) was used for testing the Upper Jurassic carbonate rocks. On the basis of data and experiences obtained during exploration of the Upper Jurassic carbonate rocks the model of the work-flow decision diagram was elaborated. It may be used for the integrated HC field management and for possible modifications in the drilling and testing technology.

Opis:: An account of research activities on the devices improving the manoeuvring abilities carried out at the Gdansk University of Technology were presented in Part I of the paper. Experience from implementation of open rudders on real ships is presented in Part II. Open rudders were fitted on two full size ships: a 1000 BHP harbour tug and a 2500 BHP long line fishing vessel. Designs were made for four types of ships: motor sailing passenger ship “Gwarek” (2 x 1.032 BHP and 1800 m˛ sail area); arctic expedition sailing ship m/y “Polarex” (length 40,4 m, 1200 BHP); rescue vessel R-27 (two engines a 600 BHP with single propeller); harbour tug m/t “Atlas” (2500 BHP). None of these designs was implemented due to financial difficulties of the owners. Further model experiments with a self propelled model of a cargo liner m/s “Hollandia” exceeding 20 knots were carried out on the lake as well as with a model of a twin screw vessel.

Opis:: Gas-, oil- and water-bearing Upper Jurassic formations (Malm) in the area of the Carpathian Foothills are built from carbonate reservoir rocks with vuggy-fracture porosity system (or fracture-vuggy), which absolute porosity is from a few to several percent. At the end of the twentieth century DST tests provided a lot of reliable reservoir information, on which the important decisions for geological research and exploration, can be taken. The credibility of these tests results depends largely on the technology used. The paper presents the results of three selected DST tests, differing in technology, particularly with attention to the usefulness of the obtained information in explorations for hydrocarbon deposits process.
