Opis:
This article describes a proposed productivity simulation model enabling container terminal operators to find optimization possibilities. A research of more than forty terminals has been done, in order to provide a helping tool for maritime container terminals. By applying an adequate simulation model, it is possible to measure and increase the productivity in all subsystem of the maritime container terminal. Management of a maritime container terminal includes a vast number of different financial and operational decisions. Financial decisions are often in a direct connection with investments in infrastructure and handling equipment. Such investments are very expensive. Therefore, they must give back the invested money as soon as possible. On the other hand, some terminals are limited by the physical extension and are forced to increase annual throughput only with sophisticated equipment on the berth side and on the yard as well. Considering all these important facts in container and shipping industry, the proposed simulation model gives a helping tool for checking the productivity and its time variation and monitoring competitiveness of a certain maritime terminal with terminals from the same group.
W artykule przedstawiono propozycję modelu symulacyjnego umożliwiającego operatorom terminali kontenerowych optymalizację swoich działań. Badania modelowe obejmowały ponad 40 terminali morskich w celu wyznaczenia odpowiednich narzędzi wspomagających zarządzanie nimi. Wykorzystanie odpowiedniego modelu symulacyjnego pozwala mierzyć i zwiększać produktywność we wszystkich podsystemach morskiego terminalu kontenerowego. Rozważając wszystkie te istotne fakty dotyczące transportu morskiego i intermodalnego z wykorzystaniem kontenerów, proponowane eksperymenty symulacyjne pomagają w monitorowaniu produktywności, jej zmienności w czasie i konkurencyjności określonego terminala kontenerowego wśród terminali z tej samej grupy.

Opis:
There is a high demand in Poland for new intermodal container terminals. Increased rate of freight transport requires however new solutions for durable roads. Intermodal operations are carried out by swap bodies, trailers or most often containers. The intermodal terminals play the function of a storage, transportation and handling of the containers. The road surfaces within the terminals are exposed to different types of loads due to untypical types of transportation that operates on them. New types of roads demand new design methods that consider loads applied by special types of vehicles (container cranes, types of forklifts called reach-stackers). They also need to consider the method of container stacking, where the local forces can reach up to 1400 kN. The article presents typical loads that can be found in intermodal terminals, including the storing area and maneuvering aisles. The article presents also typical materials used for road construction, as well as method of dimensioning that incorporates different exposure factors. The method allows to design load-bearing and durable road surfaces. The calculations were performed for materials typically used in road construction, as well as in industrial flooring. The study presents a case study calculation of a parking lot designed for heavy load trucks.

Opis:
This study is carried out with the aim of developing sustainable port management in container terminals, allowing the volume of container traffic to grow, while at the same time reducing the consumption of energy and natural resources, the volume of waste generated and the negative impacts on social systems and ecosystems in the areas of influence of the port. The analysis of sustainability will be carried out using KPIs, which are management tools widely used by companies worldwide to measure and evaluate the performance of their processes and manage them in the most effective and efficient manner. As a main conclusion, it is indicated that it is not possible to reach the objective pursued of finding a relationship that could link the productivity indicators and the environmental indicators in the Spanish container terminals. The container terminals of the Spanish port system are heterogeneous, both in terms of operational management and environmental sustainability. They all operate with very different systems.

The economy of Singapore is characterised by a stable political environment, favourable business conditions and very well-developed infrastructure attracting foreign direct investment, being the driving force of the economy. It is highly dependent on export, as well as on the dynamic sectors of transport, business and financial services. Singapore’s natural deep-sea ports and the geographical location at the crossroads of important shipping channels makes its trade a major economic sector, next to production and services. There are currently more than 5,000 maritime companies operating in Singapore, including over 130 international shipping groups, which constitute an important pillar for the international maritime transport hub. This article discusses Singapore’s economic situation by analysing the dynamic GDP growth over the years 1960–2016 as well as other economic indicators achieved in 2004–2017, including the dynamics of foreign trade. This research covers the port’s ownership and organisational structure, and its terminals have been reviewed in terms of their location, infrastructure and functions by taking into account the new generation terminal of the port of Tuas, currently under development. Over the years, the port has seen a steady increase in revenue from transhipment, which is confirmed by the dynamics of the container volume growth over the years 1972–2017, the transhipment volume over the years 2007–2018 and the number of container ships calling at the port along with their total capacity over the years 2007–2017, as elaborated in the article.

Natural gas production in Europe does not meet the demand for this raw material. The solution is the import of raw materials, and LNG, i.e. liquefied natural gas, is becoming increasingly popular. The LNG supply chain includes natural gas production, liquefaction, and then transport to the unloading terminal, where it is regasified and sent to the final recipient. There are many import terminals in Europe and their number is constantly growing, which shows the increased demand for a different source of raw material than pipelines. The aim of the article is to present the extraction, consumption and import of natural gas in the Polish and Europe, as well as the presentation of the LNG supply chain and a discussion of the import terminals located in European countries.

Introduction and aim. Recently, an increased use of video display terminals has been observed in workplace environments, as a result of the evolution of communication technologies and new information-sharing strategies. It has led to an increased prevalence of computer-related ocular disorders, such as computer vision syndrome, dry eye disease, refractive errors and convergence insufficiency. In this review we describe problems associated with these disorders and propose preventive methods. Material and methods. With the use of specific keywords, the databases of the PubMed, Science Direct, and Google Scholar were searched for relevant original papers. Analysis of the literature. The listed disorders might have similar symptoms, such as eye burning, itching, blurred vision, and tearing, and their severity correlates with the time of exposure to video display units. However, there are preventive measures, which can help in decreasing the negative effects of computers on our vision, such as adequate viewing distance, proper workspace lighting, eyeglasses with anti-glare coating, taking 5-minutes breaks after every 30 minutes, or following the 20-20-20 rule. Conclusion. Prolonged usage of the video display terminals is connected to many ocular disorders, and in today’s world, it is very important to remember actions that can be undertaken to minimize the risk.
