Opis:
Investigate the processes of formation of accumulative forms of sea bottom relief and coast. The coincidence of the linear parts of the accumulative sea bottom relief with the direction of tectonic faults. Provides examples exploring the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, the Baltic, Black and Azov Seas. Consider the problem of continuing in the sea geological structures on dry land. On the example of the Azov Sea it was shown that the horst on land in the coastal zone is shown a linear zone of eroded beaches. Sustainable shore erosion are confined to the gorst. Graben on land continues at sea accumulative forms of type foreland. The accumulation zone of sediment are confined to grabens. Shown that different direction storms form accumulative relief in accordance with clear rules. Random exogenous factors are controlled regularities endogenous processes. Endogenous formation of sea bottom relief happens resulting impact endogenous processes on the speed currents. In those locations where currents slows down the sand falls to the bottom. Decrease in speed currents occurs lengthwise tectonic faults. Faults is the migration path lithospheric fluids. To elucidate the reasons for the formation of specific conditions sediment load was carried out mathematical modeling of currents over a linear zone submarine groundwater discharge. Hydrodynamic software decides system of Navier-Stokes equations. Made mathematical modeling the interaction currents and the water flowing from a tectonic fault.

The occurrence of faults in coal seams has an impact on the possibility of methane hazard. There are several methods for identifying tectonic faults, but they cannot be applied directly to solve dynamic hazard problems in coal mine. Thus, searching for appropriate methods, that can detect faults in regional and local scales is needed. In order to meet this need, the paper proposes a new measurement method of estimating changes to the coal structure, based on profilometry measurements (roughness analysis) and application of madogram functions. Based on examining coal samples from near fault zones it was shown that the proposed approach allows us to detect changes of the coal surface that appear as the distance to a tectonic fault gets shorter. The proposed method, due to its simplicity and speed of measurement, implies a potential for practical application in the process of detecting local tectonic dislocations in coal mines.

In this paper is given an information about complex geodetic research in Ukrainian Antarctic station “Academician Vernadsky”. Research were carried by Lviv polytechnic scientists, during Antarctic expeditions in years 2002 - 2005, 2013, 2014. Main objectives of the studies were: (a) study of the islands glaciers surface volumes changes in Antarctic archipelago and Antarctic Peninsula using terestrial laser scaning and digital terrestrial stereophotogrammetry survey; (b) investigation of Penola strain tectonic fault, using the results of precise GNSS observations.

Determination of original state of stress in rock mass is a very difficult task for rock mechanics. Yet, original state of stress in rock mass has fundamental influence on secondary state of stress, which occurs in the vicinity of mining headings. This, in turn, is the cause of the occurrence of a number of mining hazards, i.e., seismic events, rock bursts, gas and rock outbursts, falls of roof. From experience, it is known that original state of stress depends a lot on tectonic disturbances, i.e., faults and folds. In the area of faults, a great number of seismic events occur, often of high energies. These seismic events, in many cases, are the cause of rock bursts and damage to the constructions located inside the rock mass and on the surface of the ground. To estimate the influence of fault existence on the disturbance of original state of stress in rock mass, numerical calculations were done by means of Finite Element Method. In the calculations, it was tried to determine the influence of different factors on state of stress, which occurs in the vicinity of a normal fault, i.e., the influence of normal fault inclination, deformability of rock mass, values of friction coefficient on the fault contact. Critical value of friction coefficient was also determined, when mutual dislocation of rock mass part separated by a fault is impossible. The obtained results enabled formulation of a number of conclusions, which are important in the context of seismic events and rock bursts in the area of faults.

Opis:
Reservoir confinement by faults is important for safe storage of liquid waste or hydrocarbons. Having access to 3D seismic and borehole data, we have interpreted the tectonic setting of the Wysoka Kamieńska Graben (WKG) in the NW part of the Polish Basin and subsequently made an interpretation of the sealing potential of the graben-bounding faults. The formation and development of the graben in the Late Triassic and Early Jurassic was controlled by mechanical decoupling in the salts of the Zechstein Group. The primary tectonic factor triggering the graben origin was dextral strike-slip movement along the regional fault zone in the Paleozoic basement, transtensional accommodation of which in the Zechstein-Mesozoic cover led to development of a horse-tail pattern of grabens. During the Late Cretaceous, the graben underwent minor tectonic inversion. Sealing potential analysis of the graben-bounding faults was performed for the Triassic–Jurassic sequence including juxtaposition seal and fault gouge seal components. Finally, we have focussed our interpretation on the Jurassic sequence where the best reservoirs have been recognized. Our results indicate good to moderate sealing potential of the Hettangian reservoir, poor to moderate sealing of the Pliensbachian reservoir and lack of sealing of the Bajocian reservoir. Hence, the Hettangian reservoir, characterized by large thickness, low clay content and a large regional extent, acts as a potential storage formation, being confined by the graben-bounding faults of the WKG.

Onshore mud volcanoes are rare geological phenomena, which in Nigeria were reported for the first time few years ago in the Upper Benue Trough. In this study a detail geological mapping of the area of mud volcanoes occurrence was carried out, with the primary aim of defining their relationship, if any, to the structural geology there. The systematic field reconnaissance included field observations of the structural features, as well as analysis of the location and distribution of the onshore mud volcanoes, marking their locations on the topographic and geological maps, analysis of the aerial photographs and satellite images. The study area covered the central part of the Upper Benue Trough where the onshore mud volcanoes were found. The study area is the part of a sedimentary basin comprising Cretaceous clastic rocks that have been deformed intensively by a network of faults often embedded in the underlying Precambrian basement. This network of faults underwent a rejuvenation period from the Aptian to the Palaeocene. The most prominent tectonic structure in the study area is the NE – SW trending Kaltungo Fault Zone, however, there are other minor faults with N – S and NW – SE trends. This study shows that the mud volcanoes found in the study area are usually located near or within fault zones, within the outcropping Upper Cretaceous Yolde Formation and Upper Bima Sandstone, both of which were deformed by the Kaltungo faults, as well as by other minor faults. Worldwide, incidences of onshore mud volcano formation are usually attributed to areas of tectonic activity, rapid sedimentation or hydrocarbon occurrence. In this study, the interpretation of the field observations and mapping results, combined with information on the structural evolution of the study area and seismic pattern (very scarce), have led to the conclusion that the location of onshore mud volcanoes in the Upper Benue Trough, being located along the fault zones, is structurally controlled. The close relationship between mud volcano location and the structural framework of the area may be interpreted as one of several possible subsurface geological responses to present tectonic activity.

Opis:
Lake Eğirdir is one of the most important fresh-water lakes of Turkey. It has a tectonics-related origin. The area formed under a roughly N-S compressional tectonic regime during the Middle Miocene. The stresses caused slip faults west and east of Isparta Angle, and the lake formed at the junction of these faults. The area subsided between normal faults, thus creating the topographic condition required for a lake. The lacustrine sediments have fundamentally different lithologies. After the Late Miocene, central Anatolia started to move westwards, but western Anatolia moved in a SW direction along the South-western Anatolian Fault , which we suggest to have a left lateral slip, which caused that the Hoyran Basin moved t7 km towards the SW and rotated 40º counterclockwise relative to Lake Eğirdir.

The article discusses the features of the formation, distribution and manifestations of fault structures in the Western Donbass for planning mining operations in disturbed areas. As a result of the study and manifestation features of faults it was established that violations in Western Donbass mines are occurred in limited quantities by compressing tectonic stress of north-east direction with a shift of the wings and lifting pre-exploding zones in the vertical plane with the formation of sliding surfaces. Confirmation of faults formation nature is shown by the example while intersection of Fault Bogdanovskiy with vertical amplitude of 320 m by the mining operations of "Samarskaya" mine at Company “DTEK “Pavlogradygol”. According to the study of the propagation of faults, it was found that tectonic faults are not reservoirs for overflow water from the overlying aquifer, the major complicating factors are the collapse of the roof rocks and vertical convergence.
W artykule przedstawiono charakterystykę geologiczną, rozkład i występowanie struktur uskokowych w Zachodnim Donbasie służące do planowania operacji górniczych w zagrożonych kopalniach. Wynikiem badania uskoków było ustalenie, że zakłócenia w kopalniach Zachodniego Donbasu występowały w ograniczonych ilościach, a spowodowane były napięciami tektonicznymi w kierunku północno-wschodnim oraz występowaniem stref przedwybuchowych w płaszczyźnie pionowej. Potwierdzenie przyczyn formowania się uskoków zostało pokazane na przykładzie przekroju uskoku Bogdanowskiego o pionowej amplitudzie 320 m, spowodowanego operacjami górniczymi kopalni Samarskaya należącej do firmy DTEK Pavlogradugol. Na podstawie badań dotyczących prognozowania uskoków stwierdzono, że uskoki tektoniczne nie są zbiornikami dla wód, najbardziej skomplikowanymi czynnikami są skały opadające ze stropu oraz pionowa konwergencja.
