Opis:
The article presents the proposal for rules for granting a pass out of mathematics for business studies. The proposed schema guarantees that each student demonstrates a mastery of all the required skills, not only 60 or 70 percent as at the traditional exams. The proposed organization also eliminates the need for time-consuming repeated checking solutions of similar tasks written by the same student. The idea of the assessment procedure is based on two rules: (1) students must demonstrate that they have mastered all the required knowledge and all the skills, having three attempts; (2) each subsequent attempt includes only the previously failed topics. The proposed system was introduced on a trial basis at the Faculty of Management at the University of Warsaw, where it was subject to the assessment of circa 150 students. The conclusions and examples of students’ comments have been provided in the article.

Quality systems are usually developed for the whole institution, but in this article we discuss the possibility of applying a quality system to one study course – Sport English. In higher education institutions (HEIs) the quality system usually employs David Easton’s model, consisting of resources, processes and results. The quality system applicable for teaching foreign languages consists of the quality of teaching, quality of delivery, quality of materials, and quality in assessment. Both models are used in constructing a quality system for a Sport English study course, and the first preliminary results are discussed

Opis:
Strength of educational system depends upon the quality pf teachers. Teachers have always been considered as one of the noblest professions. (Naz, 2016). Students are generally influenced by their teachers because they spend most of their time at school (Rahaman, 2010; Rosen, 2010). To teach students according to today’s standards, teachers need to understand subject matter deeply and flexibly so that they can help students create useful cognitive maps, relate one idea to another, and address misconceptions. Teachers need to see how ideas connect across fields and to everyday life. Teachers use suitable strategies and resources to follow instructions according to the needs of the needs of individuals and groups of students. Teachers should guide pupils learning in analyzing. Teachers should provide manifold models and explanations of concepts behaviors and skills. Teachers provide creative and critical thinking, problem solving ability, curiosity. They should know how to use various technological and communication. They should believe in change and flexibility in teaching learning process (Rahaman, 2010; Rosen, 2010).

Opis:
The article uses the method of system analysis to analyse the vision of society outlined in the encyclical “Rerum Novarum” by Leo XIII. The system analysis concerned the identification and problem analysis with elements of mathematical analysis (according to the Konieczny division). In the course of the analysis, used were the concepts developed at the Polish School of Cybernetics, the main representatives of which were Mazur and Kossecki. The basics of system analysis, autonomous systems were presented and the division into systems was made for further analysis. System energy/material processes in terms of energy, power and freedom factor of the systems as well as the information processes in terms of social norms were taken into account. As a result of the analysis, it was revealed that the system of social control proposed by Pope Leo XIII assumes primacy of ideological norms (Catholicism) and ethical norms, with simultaneous occurrence of economic and vital norms. The system of society proposed by Pope Leo XIII is coherent, resistant to disturbances and striving for effective expansion, and what is more, it solves a given social problem. The weakness of that system is susceptibility to ideological indifference, weakening ethics and disturbing the process of ideological and ethical programming. The implementation of ideological and ethical norms into the society takes place mainly through the educational process. Further research possibilities and limitations of the tools used were also indicated.

This paper describes a “distributed method” of introducing the humanitarian engineering principles and concepts to the curriculum of telecommunications at a maritime university. That is by modifying appropriately the syllabi of the telecommunications subjects taught. The propositions made in this area are illustrated by the concrete examples taken from the current Polish Qualifications Framework for the higher education system in Poland. And, for clarity and consistency of presentation, fundamentals and principles as well as a basic terminology and features of this Framework are also highlighted here shortly. Moreover, it has been shown that the approach presented in this paper is more useful compared to a method based on organization of some special courses for students on the humanitarian engineering, in particular when this regards a maritime university.

This text, on its theoretical plane, sketches the differentia specifica existing between Polish (applied) linguistics and didactics (methodology) of foreign language teaching and learning/ glottodidactics as well as probes contexts of teaching the native versus the other (i.e. foreign) language – based on English. After referring to some of the most important works found in the (Polish) literature (all concerned with teaching and learning the English language), in the further part of the article, the author advises on current education system in Poland. The empirical section, in turn, quotes the most recent figures excerpted from the data published by the Central Statistical Office in Poland, and regarding the number of speakers of particular modern foreign languages (based on primary, lower secondary and secondary education in the preceding school year, i.e. 2016–2017).

Opis:
This quasi-experimental study aimed at looking into the effectiveness of blended learning approach in improving the performance in Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT) Course of Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation (BSMT) first year students at JBLFMU-Arevalo during the second semester of school year 2018-2019. The respondents of this research were the two sections comparable with each other who were enrolled in the subject ICT. There were 40 student respondents composed of 20 in the experimental group and 20 in the control group. A validated and reliability-tested 45 item researcher-made multiple choice test was used as an instrument with a Cronbach index of 0.88. The statistical tools used were mean, standard deviation, Mann-Whitney test, and Wilcoxon-Signed ranks test set at .05 level of significance. The effect size was computed to determine the effectiveness of the blended learning approach in terms of students’ performance in ICT. Results showed that in the pretest, though the experimental group had a higher mean score than the control group, the Mann-Whitney test showed that the mean scores of the two groups were comparable because the significant value was greater than .05. When the treatment was introduced, findings showed that there were significant differences in the ICT performance in the pretest and posttest of experimental and control groups as well as in the posttests of both groups. Results inferred that blended learning approach was more than a hundred percent effective showing significant results on the experimental group. It could also be inferred that the better performance of the control group could be attributed to the traditional method of teaching, the lecture method.

Opis:
This article analyses the theoretical background of changes that have taken place over the last two decades in the Australian and New Zealander educational systems. That background has two elements: first, understanding of pedagogical activities performed by the teacher and students in the educational process has been modified, second, Hattie’s concept of Visible Learning has gained a following. The text consists of four sections. The first section presents a reconstruction of the traditional model of perceiving the actions of teaching and learning. In the second section an insight into the foundations of an innovative, evidence-based approach to education is provided. The following section describes the concept of Visible Learning in relation to the main determining factors of education. Finally, the last section describes some of innovations introduced in New Zealand’s and Australia’s educational systems which, it is argued, raise the effectiveness of educational practices there.
W artykule przeanalizowano tło teoretyczne zmian, które dokonały się w ciągu dwóch ostatnich dekad w australijskim i nowozelandzkim systemie oświatowym. Zdaniem autorki tworzą je (owe tło) dwa elementy: z jednej strony zmodyfikowane rozumienie działania pedagogicznego, zgodnie z którym nauczycielowi i uczniowi przypadają istotne role w procesie kształcenia, z drugiej natomiast koncepcja widocznego uczenia się (Visible Learning) autorstwa J. Hattiego.

Opis:
Over the past two decades, we have witnessed the astounding development of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). Celestial navigation has gradually been declining, displaced by the availability of these new, accurate, and easy-to-use electronic systems. Nonetheless, according to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW), deck officers onboard merchant ships must have been trained in the observance of celestial bodies to plot the ship’s position and to calibrate compass error. It is a real challenge in the current context to which lecturers in nautical astronomy can respond through innovation in their teaching methods. A new approach to training students in celestial navigation at the Nautical College of the University of the Basque Country is discussed in this paper. It has already achieved promising results in comparison with the traditional teaching methodology, and is both efficient and effective. The adoption of institutional measures is also proposed to ensure that the competence acquired in the training phase is at all times present throughout professional practice.

Opis:
It is important to build good intuitive knowledge of dynamic systems in order to make good decision. However, this intuitive knowledge is often lacking. This is indicated by learning problems at schools, laboratory experiments to test understanding, and observed mismanagement of real world systems. While mathematics is needed to untangle the complexities of dynamic systems, many find mathematics difficult and develop mental blockages. This paper discusses how insights from the field of System Dynamics could be used to help develop intuitive understanding of dynamic systems. The teaching method has four key elements. First one starts with a water analogy. For the dynamic systems that are dealt with in this paper, the analogy consists of a funnel and glass system. Second, a generic symbol language is used to describe system structure with the necessary cause and effect relationships. Third, simulation is used to study the behaviour over time that follows from the system structure. Simulation can both be used to see if the model structure is able to explain and replicate observed problems, and to test the effects of policy interventions. Fourth, stock and flow diagrams for simple systems are used as starting points when studying the dynamics of systems from different fields. Hence, the method enables interdisciplinary teaching, research, and collaboration. A common language is also crucial for effective transfer of knowledge from a known to an unknown territory.
Posiadanie dobrej wiedzy intuicyjnej w modelowaniu systemów dynamicznych jest ważne w celu podejmowania lepszych (optymalnych) decyzji. W rzeczywistości występuje brak wiedzy intuicyjnej. Potwierdzają to problemy spotykane w trakcie uczenia w szkole, eksperymenty laboratoryjne testujące wiedzę i obserwowane niegospodarności systemów rzeczywistych. Metoda umożliwia interdyscyplinarne nauczanie, badania naukowe i współpracę. Wspólny język ma kluczowe znaczenie w skutecznym transferze wiedzy z obszarów gdzie jest ona znana na obszary gdzie wcześniej nie wystąpiła.
