    Based on a small-scale survey and discussion with teacher-learners in a postgraduate teacher education program in Poland, this paper aims to investigate their understanding of ‘learning to read in L2 English’ and the current state of their competencies in teaching reading. Descriptors taken from the European Portfolio for Student Teachers of Languages, EPOSTL, are used are used as criteria to analyze the qualitative data. It is found that while there appears to be awareness and indication of application of some competencies, the participants seem confused as to how to support younger elementary L2 learners in developing basic reading skills and may lack understanding of theories to underpin their practice.

    The author presents results of triangulated qualitative and quantitative research concerning institutional and individual support for gifted students’ development in Polish schools. The research study was conducted in three stages: case studies of schools, a survey of teachers’ perceptions and educational biographies transcribed from interviews of gifted and talented students. Conclusions are presented in the form of a model of educational support of gifted students’ development and recommendations concerning the planning and implementation of this support are proposed.

    The article presents the results of exploring the purposes of using digital tools to support student learning at universities. This comprises some identified types of digital tools and the frequency of their use by academic staff, which varies due to their level of digital literacy. Then the collected data is provided concerning the numbers of academic staff using basic electronic communication methods. The above data were collected in Polish and Czech universities and later compared to each other. The presented study was conducted over the period 2015–2016 within the IRNet project – International research network for study and development of new tools and methods for advanced pedagogical science in the field of ICT instruments, e-learning and intercultural competences in Poland (University of Silesia, Faculty of Ethnology and Educational Science in Cieszyn) and the Czech Republic (University of Ostrava, Pedagogical Faculty). The undertaken research was aimed at recognizing academic teachers’ activities concerning their support in university students’ learning process.

    Opis:
    RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The aim of the paper is to evaluate the experience resulting from the use of simulation games as supporting entrepreneurial attitudes at technical universities. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The main problem raised in the article concerns the effectiveness of simulation games as a method of supporting entrepreneurial attitudes at technical universities. The article provides an overview of selected literature and presents the authors’ experience in using simulation games. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The first part presents selected aspects of entrepreneurship and simulation games. The next part presents the results of a case study on the use of simulation games in Poland. As a result, the final part formulates conclusions regarding this issue for the future. RESEARCH RESULTS: Knowledge and usefulness of a simulation game as an entrepreneurship education method among students of technical universities have been indicated. Conclusions have been formulated pointing to high effectiveness and usability of simulation games in supporting entrepreneurial attitudes. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: The studied method of entrepreneurship education seems to be extremely interesting for students of technical universities and should be further developed as an innovative educational solution.
    CEL NAUKOWY: Celem artykułu jest ewaluacja doświadczeń wynikających ze stosowania gier symulacyjnych jako metody wspierania postaw przedsiębiorczych. PROBLEM I METODY BADAWCZE: Główny problem poruszony w artykule dotyczy skuteczności gier symulacyjnych jako metody wspierania postaw przedsiębiorczych na uczelniach technicznych. Artykuł zawiera przegląd wybranej literatury i przedstawia doświadczenia autorów w korzystaniu z gier symulacyjnych. PROCES WYWODU: W części pierwszej przedstawiono wybrane aspekty przedsiębiorczości i gier symulacyjnych. W następnej części przedstawiono wyniki studium przypadku dotyczącego wykorzystania gier symulacyjnych w Polsce. W rezultacie w części końcowej sformułowano wnioski dotyczące tej kwestii na przyszłość. WYNIKI ANALIZY NAUKOWEJ: Wykazano znajomość i przydatność gry symulacyjnej jako metody edukacji w zakresie przedsiębiorczości wśród studentów uczelni technicznych. Sformułowano wnioski wskazujące na wysoką skuteczność i użyteczność gier symulacyjnych we wspieraniu postaw przedsiębiorczych. WNIOSKI, INNOWACJE, REKOMENDACJE: Badana metoda kształcenia w zakresie przedsiębiorczości wydaje się niezwykle interesująca dla studentów uczelni technicznych i powinna być dalej rozwijana jako innowacyjne rozwiązanie edukacyjne.

    Opis:
    It has been over 180 years since the first pre-school education institution was established in 1839. Over the years, the theory and practice of preschool education have been created, taking into account Polish social and economic needs, marking good and bad times in preschool education.Research AimThe aim of the article is to present the condition of preschool education in Poland from two perspectives:  the background of milestones in the history of preschool education and the introduced pedagogical innovations by supporting preschool children in the development of speech along with shaping reading and writing skills, and developing the advances of mathematical talents.Evidence-based Facts            This article presents societal major events and decisions that have determined the process of shaping preschool education in Poland to the present day. These events were arranged by dates that set milestones in the history of preschool education. The year 1839 marks the first milestone, as it is the date of establishing the first kindergarten in Poland. The beginning of the second milestone is connected with the end of the First World War and covers the interwar period. Another milestone marks the changes in preschool education since the end of the Second World War and those caused by the societal and economic turmoil of  1980s. In 2008, favorable changes were introduced in the theory and practice of pre-school education and this date marks the next milestone in the history of pre-school education. The second part of the article discusses two important areas of pedagogical activity of modern kindergartens  - achievements in the form of pedagogical innovations. The basis of these innovations are subject to academic studies and many years of scientific research supporting children in the development of speech along with the implementation of them to master reading skills and organizing mathematical education along with supporting children in developing mathematical talents. SummaryThanks to this historical perspective and the innovations introduced, it is possible to notice how the dark and bright periods in the history of preschool education in Poland have intertwined and how beneficial changes can be implemented in upbringing children to be wise citizens of the world.
    Od zorganizowania pierwszej placówki wychowania przedszkolnego w roku 1839 upłynęło ponad 180 lat. W latach tych tworzono teorię i praktykę edukacji przedszkolnej, która uwzględniała polskie potrzeby społeczne i ekonomiczne, wyznaczając dobre i złe czasy w edukacji przedszkolnej.Cel badańCelem artykułu jest przedstawienie kondycji wychowania przedszkolnego w Polsce z dwóch perspektyw. Na tle kamieni milowych w historii wychowania przedszkolnego i wprowadzanych innowacji pedagogicznych poprzez wspomaganie dzieci przedszkolnych w rozwoju mowy wraz z kształtowaniem umiejętności czytania i pisania oraz rozwijanie zadatków uzdolnień matematycznych.Stan wiedzyW artykule tym zostały przedstawione wydarzenia społeczne i decyzje, które wyznaczały proces kształtowania  wychowana przedszkolnego w Polsce po czasy obecne. Wydarzenia te zostały uporządkowane datami wyznaczającymi kamienie milowe w dziejach wychowania przedszkolnego. Rok 1839 wyznacza pierwszy kamień milowy, gdyż jest to data zorganizowania pierwszego przedszkola w Polsce. Początek drugiego kamienia milowego łączy się z zakończeniem pierwszej wojny światowej i obejmuje czasy międzywojenne. Kolejny kamień milowy wyznacza zmiany w wychowaniu przedszkolnym od zakończenia drugiej wojny światowej oraz te, które zostały spowodowane zawirowaniami społecznymi i gospodarczymi lat osiemdziesiątych ubiegłego stulecia.  W roku 2008 wprowadzono korzystne zmiany w teorii i praktyce wychowania przedszkolnego i data ta wyznacza następny kamień milowy w dziejach wychowania przedszkolnego. W drugiej części artykułu zostały omówione dwa ważne obszary działalności  pedagogicznej współczesnych przedszkoli – osiągnięcia w formie innowacji pedagogicznych. Podstawą tych innowacji są studia i wieloletnie badania naukowe wspomagania dzieci w rozwoju mowy wraz z wdrażaniem ich do opanowania umiejętności czytania oraz organizowanie edukacji matematycznej wraz ze wspomaganiem dzieci w rozwijaniu uzdolnień matematycznych.PodsumowanieDzięki tej historycznej perspektywie i wprowadzanym innowacjom można dostrzec, jak przeplatały się ciemne i jasne okresy w dziejach edukacji przedszkolnej w Polsce i w jaki sposób można wprowadzać korzystne zmiany w trosce o wychowanie dzieci  na mądrych obywateli świata.
