Opis:
The traditional methods of waste munitions treatment are expensive and also have potential risks during the treatment process. The supercritical fluid extraction technique has been a rapidly developing technique in the chemical industry in recent years. CO2 is used as the solvent, which has some advantages, such as low pollution, low cost, good chemical stability and can be operated under low temperature conditions. This research explored the feasibility of reclaiming TNT from waste munitions by supercritical CO2 fluid extraction. It was found interestingly that the melting point of TNT can be lowered in supercritical CO2 fluid. Therefore, the melting process of TNT was observed under different temperature and pressure conditions to determine the best operating conditions for stripping-down TNT from waste munitions. Afterwards, simulated warheads with weight loadings of 60 g, 500 g and 1 kg of TNT were prepared and stripping-down tests from the simulated warheads were carried out using supercritical CO2 fluid at temperatures lower than the normal melting point of TNT. The results showed that TNT could be completely removed from the simulated warheads and the optimum operating conditions were determined as 55 °C and 25 MPa. This study will contribute to the feasibility evaluation of stripping-down TNT-based high explosives.

Opis:
Supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) both with CO2 and CO2/hexane has been developed as a method of analysis for lipids in cruciferous oilseed, rapeseed products and lupin. The SFE procedure used for quantitative determination of oil was compared to traditional Soxhlet oil extraction. The quantitative values obtained with SFE were equal to those obtained with the Soxhlet procedure with respect to oil and fat contents. The oil obtained by SFE had a much lower phosphorus content (below 14 mg/kg compared to 200-530 mg/kg in oil obtained with Soxhlet). When adding hexane to the supercritical fluid in concentrations varying from 50 to 150 mL/L CO2, the solubility of oil in the fluid could be raised up to 600%, from about 30 mg/g without addition of modifier to nearly 200 mg/g when using continuous addition of 150 mL hexane/ L CO2. The phosphorus content was still lower than in oil from Soxhlet (20-64 mg/kg). Therefore, extraction of oil with SFE opens the possibility for selective removal of oil before separate extraction and determination of amphiphilic compounds, e.g. phospholipids. The carotenoid and chlorophyl content in different oils from SFE and Soxhlet were evaluated by UV-VIS determinations. The presence of other amphiphilic compounds was verified and sinapic acid was found to be a quantitatively dominating phenolic compound.

Opis:
In this study, the process of membrane cleaning by supercritical fluid extraction was investigated. Polypropylene microfiltration membranes, contaminated with oils, were treated in a batch process with a supercritical fluid (SCF). As extractant, pure supercritical carbon dioxide or supercritical carbon dioxide with admixtures of methanol, ethanol and isopropanol were used. Single-stage and multi-stage extraction was carried out and process efficiency was determined. The obtained results showed that addition of organic solvents significantly enhances the cleaning performance, which increases with increase of organic solvent concentration and decreases with increasing temperature. All three solvents showed a comparable effect of efficiency enhancement. The results confirmed that supercritical fluid extraction can be applied for polypropylene membrane cleaning.
