Opis:
A new T-type connection structure consisting of composite sandwich plates, reinforced cores and adhesive was proposed for the construction of lightweight ships to resolve connection problems between bulkheads and decks of composite lightweight ship superstructures. Based on the design principles and mechanical properties of composite structures, the mechanical behaviour of the structure under a dangerous loading condition was investigated. In addition, the ultimate bearing capacities and damage modes were examined, the results of which demonstrated that the strength of the structure is weak, and that the adhesive and reinforced core between the face plate and the web plate is the primary weakness of the structure. A numerical simulation method was verified using the results of the mechanical tests, and five characteristic paths at the connection area were established. The stresses and displacements along the five paths were calculated using the numerical method. Then, variations in the geometric parameter and the strength and weight of the connection were summarised. The optimal angle of the adhesive bonding area is approximately 60°, which supports the optimal design and practical application of the lightweight ship adhesive-bonded connection structure.

Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) is a systematic approach for evaluating the potential failure modes in a system, and is mainly employed in three distinct tasks labelled: (1) Functional FMEA – evaluating those failures associated with product functional definition, (2) Design FMEA – analysing those failures associated with design definition and (3) Process FMEA – assessing potential failures in manufacturing and assembly processes. The literature review has shown limited works on the field of synchronising these different tasks into a working model. To address this gap, this research developed a framework for integrating these tasks of FMEAs, and then qualitatively validating the proposed framework. This research adopted a semi-structured questionnaire to collect experts’ feedback and validate the proposed framework. The t-test was then employed to evaluate the collected feedback. The findings highlight that the proposed framework is applicable and could facilitate the synchronisation of the different tasks of FMEA. This research presents a methodological approach for executing and synchronising FMEAs. Therefore, the proposed framework is practically relevant as an aid for the practitioners in catching the cascading failures and reducing the relevant impact.

Opis:
Railway infrastructure is a vital transportation asset for many countries around the world and different geographic location may impose different challenges for train line operators. An example in Georgia is a snowfall related train line blockage during winter periods interrupting Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway corridor. In 2011 ViaCon Georgia was appointed for construction of snowfall protection structure with the total length of 2.434km. The snowfall protection structure was a steel tunnel lining comprising Multi-plate 200mmx5mm corrugated steel plates. This article describes ViaCon Georgia involvement in this project starting from contribution to scheme design development to complete construction of the snowfall protection structure. At the time of construction this structure was known as the longest structure in the world of such type. Authors of this paper envisage sharing their experience from this project thereby contributing ongoing developments of steel culvert design and construction.

Nowadays authentic textile motifs are becoming very popular. The latest fashion trends show that the expressed relief and texture of fabrics are common. Combining these two tendencies, 8 fabrics of two-layer spatial structure were woven. It was established that the area density increases after finishing, the breaking force decreases, and the elongation at break increases. The abrasion resistance depends on the fabric structure. If fabric is woven with part A, the abrasion resistance increases after finishing, and if it is woven without part A, the abrasion resistance decreases. Theoretical calculation of area density of two-layer fabrics is presented. The formula suggested is accurate because the error is low.
Współcześnie autentyczne dwuwarstwowe tkaniny z motywami ludowymi stają się bardzo popularne. Ostatnie trendy mody wskazują, że uwidocznione struktura i tekstura są powszechne. Dla przeprowadzenia badań wyprodukowano osiem tkanin dwuwarstwowych. Stwierdzono, że gęstość powierzchniowa tkania wzrasta po wykończeniu, podczas gdy siła zrywająca maleje, a wydłużenie przy zerwaniu wzrasta. Odporność na ścieranie uzależniona jest od struktury tkaniny. Przeprowadzono analizę uzyskanych wyników i korelacji z badaną strukturą tkanin.

Opis:
In order to solve the problem of temperature sensors easily slipping and improve the precision of temperature measurement in temperature sensing fabric, a specially designed fabric was developed. In this paper, the fabric comprised plain and multi-layered fabric. Sensors were embedded into the multi-layered fabric. The multi-layered fabric was treated by partial heat treatment to make the temperature sensors be fixed to the fabric. The temperature sensing fabrics were measured before and after the partial heat treatment. The results showed that during the heat treatment, the number of fabric layers and fabric organization had an effect on temperature measurement, and the values measured after partial heat treatment were closer to the true value than without treatment. In addition, with an increase in the number of fabric layesr, the values measured were closer to the real value. And the measurement results were closer to the true value when the multi-layered fabric’s organizational structure was plain.
Dla uzyskania hybrydowego elementu pomiarowego opracowano taką strukturę tkaniny aby móc umieścić w niej czujniki temperatury. Wielowarstwową tkaninę poddano odpowiedniej obróbce termicznej umożliwiającej zamocowanie czujników w tkaninie. Stwierdzono, że ilość warstw tkaniny i ich rozmieszczenie ma wyraźny wpływ na uzyskiwaną dokładność pomiaru temperatury. Przy zwiększeniu ilości warstw wzrastała dokładność pomiaru.

Chemical structure determines the inherent properties displayed by a given compound, and these properties, in turn, produce a specifc performance behavior. Rationally designing chemical structure to predictably modify compound properties, such that performance behavior can be tailored in a controlled manner, defnes the objective of a pertinent synthesis effort. Achieving this objective by introducing structural alterations in a neutral covalent compound offers only one approach for resultant properties modifcation. Heterocyclic salts signifcantly enhance the fexibility for achieving properties modifcation via three strategic approaches: (1) compositionally pairing various cation structural classes with a number of anion structural classes, (2) systematically altering the structure of the cation; and, (3) systematically altering the structure of the anion. To illustrate this premise, four general synthesis methods to synthesize heterocyclic salts, including several new binary heterocyclium icosahedral closo-borane and closo- carborane salts, frst are outlined. Secondly, properties modifcation approaches of neutral covalent compounds are then compared with those approaches available for various heterocyclic salts. Lastly, a key example, using three unsaturated bridged heterocyclium di-cation salts, demonstrates how rational structure design, and its effect on resultant predictable properties modifcation, produces tailored performance behavior to reach the thermochemical initiation threshold needed for combustion. This is achieved with predictable properties modifcations that increase salt energy content, or that accelerate the reaction kinetics of the thermochemical initiation process.

The following paper presents the processing of the piece on the machining centre. When the technological dimensional structures are optimal, they are similar to the dimensional structure of the piece. This similarity is ensured by using a marker of the machining centre - the axle of the revolving table. However, the piece has to be resized. The paper presents the method suitable for optimization of parameters and applied to design aircraft subassemblies on the example of a swept wing. It outlines the assumptions that are necessary to develop a mathematical model and describes constraints that served as the basis to develop an algorithm and describe the corresponding procedures in the GRIP (Graphics Interactive Programming) language that is a part of the CAD/CAM/CAE Unigraphics system. The further part of the study comprises discussion how the wing parameters and the mass functional are affected by the rigidity constraints and strength constraints. The algorithm for designing aircraft components was finally developed with inputs to the multicriteria design process “Web Modelling” of an aircraft body. The study also includes initial assumptions to algorithms originally developed by the author and dedicated to the modelling of components incorporated into aircraft structures.
W artykule zaprezentowano metodykę optymalizacji parametrów w zastosowaniu do projektowania zespołów samolotu na przykładzie skrzydła skośnego. Przedstawiono główne założenia niezbędne do opracowania matematycznego modelu. Opisano ograniczenia będące podstawą do utworzenia algorytmu i opisania procedur w języku GRIP (Graphics Interactive Programming) dla systemu CAD/CAM/CAE Unigraphics. Przeprowadzono dyskusję zmiany parametrów sztywnościowych i masy w zależności od ograniczenia obciążeniami aerodynamicznymi. Opracowano algorytm projektowania zespołów składowych samolotu z uwzględnieniem wejść do wielokryterialnego procesu projektowania Web Modelling bryły samolotu. W pracy zawarto założenia opracowanych przez autora i zastosowanych algorytmów modelowania elementów struktur lotniczych.

The optimal use of energy resources is the central dogma for green technology and bio-optics. Reflectors provide a simple and fundamental structure for energy transport from a light emitting diode (LED) chip, and an appropriately designed reflector can reduce the fabrication cost of secondary optics for the LED. This paper demonstrates the role of three proposed reflector geometric factors in the two performance metrics – uniformity and collected energy (power), for designing LED reflectors. Through canonical factor analysis, a linear structure equation for LED reflector is suggested, and the methodology for designing the optimal shape is discussed. In addition, a generalized factor and a synthesis response are proposed for a more comprehensive investigation of optical performance. Results indicate a key parameter for balancing the optical performance, and the effects of various parameters and the trade-offs are revealed.

The analysis of system factors determining the efficiency of large-scale objects is performed. Structural description and purposes of large-scale objects constructing are formalized. A three-level decomposition scheme for the problem of objects system optimization including the set of tasks for their system design, planning of development, adaptation and reengineering is proposed. The composition and the scheme of relationship on input and output data of the tasks between main stages of large-scale objects system optimization are determined. Based on the decomposition of the problem, its systemological analysis was carried out. This allowed to develop a technology for system optimization of large-scale objects, taking into account the relationship between the whole set of problem-related tasks.

Supply chain management is at the heart of business strategy. The types of goods delivered are extremely varied and the way to deliver to the final consumer is more and more complex. Moreover, the relations between players within the supply chain take multiple shapes and have inevitably an impact on its design. This arena of complexity leads companies to use diverse kinds of relational approaches. But the relational view is itself a large field of study and a recent trend in supply chain management. It can be focuses on joint planning, coordination, and process integration between suppliers, customers, and other partners in a supply chain. Its benefits include cost reductions, an increasing reliability and a strong responsiveness to market needs. In addition, managing a sustainable supply chain involves today additional parameters like CO2 emissions reduction, energy consumption decrease, eradication of traffic congestion problems and the need for a better traceability. Besides, recent progresses in inter-companies’ communication technologies, along with a growing use of strategic partnering, has resulted in a large variety of alternative information systems approaches for supporting a collaborative supply chain management. Helped by theories and based on empirical data from specific cases companies, this exploratory and conceptual research shows the relative influence of various specific environments on the coordination of logistics flows, with a focus on relationships between different players. This work analyzes diverse types of supply chains and gives a framework confronted with some examples showing how different players create new models of logistics organization in particular situations.
