Opis:
Real time monitoring of tool condirions and machining processes has been extensively studies in tne last decades, but a wide gap is stiil present between research activities and commercial tools. One of the factors which currently limit the utilization of these systems is the low flexibility of off-the-shelf solutions: in most cases they need dedicated off-line training sessions to acquire the reference patterns and thresholds, and/or the need for several input data to be defined a priori by a human operator. Instead of exploiting off-line learning sessions and a prior defined thresholds, this paper proposes an approach for automatic modelling of a cutting process and real-time monitoring of its stability that is based only on data acquired on-line during the process itself. This approach avoids any a-priori assumption about expected signal patterns, and it is characterized by an innovative implementation of well known Statistical Process Control techniques. In particular, with regard to milling processes, the paper proposes the utilization of cross-correlation coefficient between repeating signal profiles as the feature to be monitored, and an EWMA (Exponentially Weighted Moving Average) control chart for auto-correlated data as monitoring tool.

In the article some features of multivariate statistical process control were introduced. Advantages and disadvantages of multivariate control charts (Hotelling charts) - counterpart of traditional Shewhart control charts in multivariate space - were also shown. The author pointed out the advantage of Hotelling charts over traditional ones in some situations. The main part of the paper is a multivariate surveillance procedure based on the division on two stages: Phase I (phase of stabilization) and Phase II (phase of monitoring). After describing some elements of multivariate statistical process control implementation (considered from the methodological point of view) author introduced two most popular control charts used in industrial practice: control charts for individual observations and for means. The article is summarized by some author's conclusions concerning popularity of multivariate surveillance and future directions of his work.

Opis:
The objective of this article is to carry out a systematic review of the literature on multivariate statistical process control (MSPC) charts used in industrial processes. The systematic review was based on articles published via Web of Science and Scopus in the last 10 years, from 2010 to 2020, with 51 articles on the theme identified. This article sought to identify in which industry the MSPC charts are most applied, the types of multivariate control charts used and probability distributions adopted, as well as pointing out the gaps and future directions of research. The most commonly represented industry was electronics, featuring in approximately 25% of the articles. The MSPC chart most frequently applied in the industrial sector was the traditional T2 of Harold Hotelling (Hotelling, 1947), found in 26.56% of the articles. Almost half of the combinations between the probabilistic distribution and the multivariate control graphs, i.e., 49.4%, considered that the data followed a normal distribution. Gaps and future directions for research on the topic are presented at the end.

Opis:
The paper deals with Statistical Process Control (SPC) applied to three original and three generated variables of copper ore upgrading by flotation. The six variables were evaluated by the SPC charts based on industrial upgrading of copper ore data gathered during one month of operation in the form of copper content in feed, concentrate and tailing. The remaining three upgrading variables were concentrate yield, copper recovery in concentrate and non-copper components recovery in tailing. Although, all variables obeyed normal distribution, considerable autocorrelation was detected between observations for all variables. For this reason, the traditional Shewhart control charts, that assume the process data generated are normally and independently distributed, resulted in many of out-of-control points which may lead to wrong decisions regarding the control of process variables. The most suitable ARIMA time series models were determined for all variables to remove autocorrelations. The ARIMA(0,1,1) model was found the best for copper content in feed, copper content in concentrate, concentrate yield and non-copper components recovery in tailing, while the AR(1) model was suitable for copper content in tailing and copper recovery in concentrate.

Opis:
Due to its low surface energy, easy dispersion, high homogeneity and whiteness, coated (modified) calcite has increasingly been used in many industries, particularly in the plastics. The demand for this product will most likely increase in the years to come. Surface modification of calcite with a fatty acid would lead to a great expansion of industrial applications. The color values of coated calcite products are the first quality parameter. Therefore, it is very important to monitor the variations in the color characteristics of the coated calcite products. It is well known that statistical process control (SPC) techniques have been widely used in the many industries. In the present study, the surface of micronized calcite was coated with stearic acid by a pin mill. X-R control graphics and process capability index were applied for monitoring variations in quality control based on color parameters (L*, a* and b*) for the pin mill plant. In addition, active ratio, particle size distribution, whiteness parameters, BET, FTIR, TGA-DTA and SEM were then determined on a coated calcite sample. The results show that the pin mill plant seems under control and the coating technology is very effective in modifying the surface of micronized calcite products.

Opis:
The manufacturing and characterization of polymer nanocomposites is an active research trend nowadays. Nonetheless, statistical studies of polymer nanocomposites are not an easy task since they require several factors to consider, such as: large amount of samples manufactured from a standardized procedure and specialized equipment to address characterization tests in a repeatable fashion. In this manuscript, the experimental characterization of sensitivity, hysteresis error and drift error was carried out at multiple input voltages () for the following commercial brands of FSRs (force sensing resistors): Interlink FSR402 and Peratech SP200-10 sensors. The quotient between the mean and the standard deviation was used to determine dispersion in the aforementioned metrics. It was found that a low mean value in an error metric is typically accompanied by a comparatively larger dispersion, and similarly, a large mean value for a given metric resulted in lower dispersion; this observation was held for both sensor brands under the entire range of input voltages. In regard to sensitivity, both sensors showed similar dispersion in sensitivity for the whole range of input voltages. Sensors’ characterization was carried out in a tailored test bench capable of handling up to 16 sensors simultaneously; this let us speed up the characterization process.

This paper describes a stability study of a plastic injection molding process. There is a need - underpinned by economic considerations - to continuously improve and lead to a maximum reduction in the level of deficiencies in production processes. One of the methods that can help to improve the process is SPC (Statistical Process Control). One of the SPC tools are proces capability indicators (Cp, Cpk) or performance indicators, such as Pp, Ppk. In this paper, on a mass measuring station, a study was conducted on three types of products manufactured in a company, and the measurements concerned each piece of the product manufactured during one work shift. The data collected were used to calculate the process capability and to evaluate these processes.

Opis:
This article discusses the possibility of using a two-track X-S control card on a Mesas device to control the production process parameters of piston castings for combustion engines. The research was carried out at the Federal-Mogul Gorzyce company. The basis for estimating the variability of the process results from the mean value (X) is the standard deviation (S). Thanks to specially designed measuring stations that use algorithms to calculate process indicators (Cp and/or Cpk) and their visualization, the cost of manufacturing products and the number of non-compliant products (scraps) are reduced. The process stability was investigated by measuring the key dimensions of the piston casting in a specific population and a given measurement cycle. Taking into account the precision of details, their technical condition, and surface quality, the production machines and cutting tools were optimally selected. It has been found that an important element of the effective use of Statistical Process Control (SPC) are trained/experienced operators who can correctly interpret the resulting control chart forms.

Opis:
X-ray computed tomography (CT) can reveal internal, three-dimensional details of objects in a non-destructive way and provide high-resolution, quantitative data in the form of CT numbers. The sensitivity of the CT number to changes in material density means that it may be used to identify lithology changes within cores of sedimentary rocks. The present pilot study confirms the use of Representative Elementary Volume (REV) to quantify inhomogeneity of CT densities of rock constituents of the Boda Claystone Formation. Thirty-two layers, 2 m core length, of this formation were studied. Based on the dominant rock-forming constituent, two rock types could be defined, i.e., clayey siltstone (20 layers) and fine siltstone (12 layers). Eleven of these layers (clayey siltstone and fine siltstone) showed sedimentary features such as, convolute laminations, desiccation cracks, cross-laminations and cracks. The application of the Autoregressive Integrated Moving Averages, Statistical Process Control (ARIMA SPC) method to define Representative Elementary Volume (REV) of CT densities (Hounsfield unit values) affirmed the following results: i) the highest REV values corresponded to the presence of sedimentary structures or high ratios of siltstone constituents (> 60%). ii) the REV average of the clayey siltstone was (5.86 cm3) and (6.54 cm3) of the fine siltstone. iii) normalised REV percentages of the clayey siltstone and fine siltstone, on the scale of the core volume studied were 19.88% and 22.84%; respectively. iv) whenever the corresponding layer did not reveal any sedimentary structure, the normalised REV values would be below 10%. The internal void space in layers with sedimentary features might explain the marked textural heterogeneity and elevated REV values. The drying process of the core sample might also have played a significant role in increasing erroneous pore proportions by volume reducation of clay minerals, particularly within sedimentary structures, where authigenic clay and carbonate cement were presumed to be dominant.

Some industrial data often come with uncertainty, which in some cases depends on the decision of those responsible for taking the measurement in the production process. While the fuzzy approach helps to tackle the ambiguity that arises in the measurement, an interval type-2 fuzzy set deals with such uncertainty better due to its flexibility over the control limits of its control chart. This paper aims to develop an Interval Type-2 fuzzy Exponentially Weighted Moving Average Control Chart (IT2FEWMA) under the fuzzy type-2 condition. This development will facilitate monitoring small and moderate shifts in the production process in conditions of uncertainty.
