Opis:
This study evaluates the movement of a frame built on soft soil under seismic excitation taking into account soil-structure interaction. First, the study was evaluated using the finite element method, then, by using a substructure method which modelled the soil using springs and dampers in a linear and nonlinear study. Rheological models were determined using impedance functions, calculated using a numerical program CONAN. These dynamic impedances are shown in the displacement vector of a three-degrees-of-freedom frame, which was calculated on the basis of lateral forces distributed over the structure height using the equivalent static method. In this regard, two different calculation norms were chosen; RPA2003 and UBC97. Finally, a parametric study was carried out, based on the effects of soil densification and the foundation geometry on the response of the RC frame.

Opis:
During previous earthquakes around the world, it was discovered that elevated water tanks were severely damaged or collapsed. As a result, structural engineers are concerned about the analysis of these structures to gain a better understanding of the effects of seismic loads on elevated water tanks. In the current study, E-Tabs software, which is based on finite elements, is used to model various shapes of elevated water tanks along with various staging patterns. The higher stiffness of the supports in cross staging tanks makes them better than normal staging tanks, according to the results of the analysis. Furthermore, circular tanks perform better than other tank shapes when subjected to seismic loads. The study looks at water tanks subjected to static seismic loads. More research is needed to determine the analysis results for the dynamic seismic loads applied to the structure. All the analysis results are derived from the software's tank analysis results.

The article presents tests results of the influence of deformation methods on the microstructure and properties of alloy WE43. There were direct extrusion tests and extrusion with KoBo method performed. An assessment of the influence of the methods of deformation on the microstructure and the mechanical properties of the achieved rods from alloy WE43 was conducted. There was an analysis of microstructure carried out with the use of light and scanning microscopy techniques in the initial state and after plastic deformation. Static tensile test was conducted in temperature of 350°C at a speed of 0.0001 m·s-1 and microhardness measurements were performed of HV0.2. On the basis of the achieved mechanical tests results it was stated that in the temperature of 350°C for samples deformed with the use of KoBo method there was an effect of superplastic flow found. The value of elongation achieved was 250% which was 3 times higher than in case of classic extrusion (80%).

The article presents a static analysis of the existing three-axle tipper semitrailer using the finite element method. The tipper trailer frame must be strong enough to carry loads from the load while driving, during an accident and especially when emptying the load box when a very large part of the load is pointing at the rear of the frame. Frames are usually made of low-alloy steel with increased strength, most often of grade S355J2G3; duralumin alloy frames are also used. The currently designed semi-trailer frames are becoming more lightweight while the required load capacity and durability are retained. This is possible thanks to the use of computational methods by the engineers in this finite element method. Static analysis allows for the determination of stress and deformation in the loaded frame and also a possible modification of the frame. The aim of the work was to investigate the influence of the position of the crossbar on the level of stress and deformations for three different load situations of the frame.

Results are presented of numerically simulated three dimensional quasi-static shear deformation of polydisperse systems of spheres. Results of axisymmetric compression test simulations are reported for both dense and loose systems. The versatility of numerical simulation is demonstrated by presenting results obtained from simulations of general radial deviatoric loading, a constant deviatoric strain test and a multi-axial plane strain test. In all cases, the simulated stress-strain dilation responses are in excellent qualitative agreement with the behaviour of granular materials observed in physical experiments.

The solutions to the static stability problem of a three-layered annular plate with a soft core and a symmetric cross-section structure are presented in this paper. The basic element of the solution is the formulation of a system of differential equations describing plate deflections and the use of the finite difference method in calculation of critical loads of buckling forms solving the eigen-value problem. The solution indicates the minimal values of static critical loads as well as the buckling forms of plates compressed on a selected edge. The obtained results have been compared with those obtained for plate models built by means of the finite element method. The final remarks concerning the forms of the loss of static stability of analysed plates with the sandwich structure have been formulated. This paper is a complement of the work by Pawlus (2005), which concerned calculations of the dynamic stability of plates, and it is an extension to cases of wave forms of the plate buckling problem earlier presented only for regular, axially-symmetrical forms of deformation in, eg., Pawlus (2002).
W pracy przedstawiono rozwiązania stateczności statycznej trójwarstwowych płyt pierścieniowych o symetrycznej strukturze poprzecznej z piankowym rdzeniem miękkim. Zasadniczą częścią rozwiązania jest wyprowadzenie układu równań różniczkowych opisujących ugięcia płyty oraz wykorzystanie metody różnic skończonych i wyznaczenie krytycznych obciążeń płyt poprzez rozwiązanie zagadnienia wartości własnych. Wyznaczonym wartościom ciśnień krytycznych płyt obciążonych na wybranym brzegu ich okładzin odpowiadają postacie deformacji płyt, które określa liczba m fal poprzecznych na obwodzie płyty. Otrzymane wyniki pod względem ilościowym i jakościowym porównano z wynikami obliczeń metodą elementów skończonych przedstawionych modeli płyt. Sformułowano uwagi końcowe dotyczące form utraty stateczności statycznej analizowanych płyt o strukturze warstwowej. Artykuł stanowi uzupełnienie pracy Pawlus (2005) dotyczącej obliczeń stateczności dynamicznej płyt i rozwinięcie na przypadki sfalowanych form deformacji rozwiązania problemu stateczności statycznej płyt rozpatrywanego wcześniej, min. w pracy Pawlus (2002) w zakresie tylko obrotowych, osiowo-symetrycznych form utraty ich stateczności.

This paper concerns the coupled linear quasi-static theory of thermoelasticity for materials with double porosity under local thermal equilibrium. The system of equations of this theory is based on the constitutive equations, Darcy’s law of the flow of a fluid through a porous medium, Fourier’s law of heat conduction, the equations of equilibrium, fluid mass conservation and heat transfer. By virtue of Green’s identity the uniqueness theorems for classical solutions of the internal and external quasi-static boundary value problems (BVPs) are proved. The fundamental solution of the system of steady vibration equations in the considered theory is constructed and its basic properties are established. Then, the surface and volume potentials are presented and their basic properties are given. Finally, on the basis of these results the existence theorems for classical solutions of the above mentioned BVPs are proved by means of the potential method (boundary integral equation method) and the theory of singular integral equations.

The paper presents selected aspects of the strength analysis of the self- propelled tunnelling machine boom. The principles of creating calculation models for numerical simulations with use of the finite element method are given. The study also presents two ways of conducting numerical calculations in both the static and dynamic range. A detailed example of numerical FEM tests of the telescopic boom is provided.
W artykule zaprezentowano wybrane zagadnienia dotyczące metodyki wykonywania analiz wytrzymałościowych wysięgników samojezdnych maszyn górniczych przy pomocy metody elementów skończonych. Przedstawiono zasady budowania modeli obliczeniowych. W pracy zaprezentowano przykłady liczbowe obejmujące analizy wytrzymałościowe wykonane dla obciążeń statycznych i dynamicznych.

An analysis of flexural work of a plate girder in elastic range has been made in the work taking into account stiffeners of a web as a counteraction to web buckling effect. A path of states of flexural equilibrium has been determined as well, also taking into account the axial compressive force. The analysed plate girder has relatively large span and then the bending moment is a dominant one among internal forces, the normal compressive stresses determine local stability loss and application of the transverse stiffeners does not much affect increase of resistance to local stability loss. On the other hand, use of the longitudinal stiffeners increases the buckling sensitivity coefficient, i.e. results in increase of global buckling resistance. Application of the transverse and longitudinal stiffeners over the whole span of the plate girder causes that its global buckling resistance increases about twice, as the value of the buckling sensitivity coefficient raises from 6.04 to 13.24, while its weight increases not much − by 11%. The transverse stiffeners will have meaning when the tangential stresses from shearing forces that usually occur in the areas of support have the crucial influence on local stability loss. Other cases of occurring significant shearing forces are plate girders under overhead cranes and plate girders of railway bridges that are loaded with large forces concentrated at the places of contact with vehicles’ wheels.

The article presents tests results of metalforming of magnesium alloy AZ61. Materials for tests were ingots sized ϕ 40×90 mm from magnesium alloy marked with symbol AZ61. Before the shaping process the ingots underwent heat treatment. As a result of conduction of the deformation processes there were rods achieved with diameter of 8 mm. There were axisymmetrical compression tests conducted on the samples taken from rods in temperature range from RT to 350ºC in order to determine the plasticity and formability of the alloy AZ61. Static tensile test was conducted in room temperature (RT), in 300ºC and in 350ºC. With the use of light and electron microscopy techniques the changes which occurred in the microstructure of AZ61 alloy in initial condition and after plastic deformation (classic extrusion, KoBo method extrusion) were described. The deformation of alloy AZ61 using the KoBo method contributes to an increase in strength and plastic properties. The effect of superplastic flow was found at a temperature of 350ºC, where a 300% increase in plastic properties – elongation value was obtained. The analysis of the microstructure showed a significant grain size reduction in the microstructure of alloy AZ61 after deformation by the KoBo method and after anaxisymmetric compression test, where grains of an average diameter of d = 13 μm were obtained.

Two types of hydrodynamically lubricated plain journal bearings were subject to examination differing in the method used to feed them with oil. The first type was fed from a lubrication pocket and the second from the bearing face side. Mathematical models were developed with two-way oil flow allowing to determine the oil film bearing capacity, the maximum pressure, the maximum temperature, and the film oil minimum height for given position of journal relative to solid bush. Static characteristics were developed used in the further course of the study to compare operating parameters of the considered types of bearings. Another issue considered in the paper is the effect of oil VG grade on bearing performance with conditions of oil feeding taken into account and results of the research presented.

Opis:
Fault diagnosis and condition monitoring of synchronous machines running under load is a key determinant of their lifespan and performance. Faults such as broken rotor bars, bent shafts and bearing issues lead to eccentricity faults. These faults if not monitored may lead to repair, replacement and unforeseen loss of income. Researchers who attempted to investigate this kind of machine stopped at characterizing and deduced ways, types and effects of rotor eccentricity fault on the machine inductances using the winding function method. A modified closed-form analytical model of an eccentric synchronus reluctance motor (SynRM) is developed here taking into cognizance the machine dimensions and winding distribution for the cases of a healthy and unhealthy SynRM. This paper reports the study the SynRM under static rotor eccentricity using the developed analytical model and firming up the model with finite element method (FEM) solutions. These methods are beneficial as they investigated and presented the influence of the degrees of static eccentricity on the machine performance indicators such as speed, torque and the stator current and assess the extent to which the machine performance will deteriorate when running with and without load. The results show that static eccentricity significantly affects the machine’s performance as the degree of eccentricity increases.
