Opis:
Emulsions are commonly used to improve aesthetics but they may also be applied to deliver active ingredients. Recently, a group of pigments known as carotenoids has been added to emulsions as an active compound mainly due to their antioxidant properties. The stability of these formulations is a critical parameter for both, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industry. Therefore, in this study two analytical methods, multiple light scattering and laser diffraction, were tested to determine the stability of various emulsions containing carotenoids (β-carotene, lycopene, astaxanthin). Even small changes in stability of emulsions were determined very early. The results of both methods proved that the type of carotenoid used did not influence the emulsions' stability. The stability of emulsions depends mainly on the preparation methods and on the type of emulsifier applied.

Opis:
For the determination of fluconazole (FLU) oxidation stability under permanganate treatment at the acidic pH, a sensitive, reproducible, and stability-indicating ultra-performance liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (UPLC/MS) method was developed. Three additional products (tR = 5.79, 6.98, 7.54) were observed besides the FLU (tR = 6.22). The proposed method was used to study the kinetics of FLU oxidative degradation. An oxidation process followed kinetics of the second-order reaction. The degradation rate constant and the corresponding half-life obtained for the FLU oxidative degradation were 0.5626 h-1 and 16.69 h, respectively. The putative oxidation products were characterized and their fragmentation pathways, on a basis of MS/MS data, were proposed.

Schiff bases namely, 2-bromo-4-methyl-N-(2-nitrobenzylidene)aniline; 2-bromo-4-methyl-N-(2,4,5-trimethoxybenzylidene)aniline; 2-bromo-N-(4-methoxybenzylidene)-4-methylaniline and N-((1H-indol-3-yl)methylene-2-bromo-4-methylaniline have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, Mass and 1H-NMR spectroscopy. Schiff bases have been screened for Antimicrobial activity against bacteria and fungi by using MIC determination. Binary complexes of Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) with Schiff bases in solution have been studied potentiometrically in 60:40 % (V/V) 1,4-dioxane-water system at constant temperature 27 ±0.5 ºC and at an ionic strength of 0.1 M KNO3. The order of stability constant of formed binary complexes in solution was examined.

Opis:
It was evidenced that P. vesicularis is an efficient degrader of phenol but does not have a reporter system for monitoring bacterial survival in the environment. Therefore, P. vesicularis (pBR322) has been constructed. In this study we experimentally confirmed that introduction of plasmid pBR322 into P. vesicularis did not change its ability to degrade phenol in liquid media and after its inoculation into sterile soil. Moreover, it has been shown that plasmid pBR322 was stable in P. vesicularis during all experiments. Additionally, the pattern of fatty acid methyl esters for P. vesicularis (pBR322) looked similar to that of P. vesicularis under phenol exposure. Some fatty acids, especially branched and cyclopropane ones were sensitive markers of phenol utilization. These findings indicate that P. vesicularis (pBR322) due to the presence of plasmid could be used instead of P. vesicularis in bioaugmentation of phenol-contaminated areas.
