Opis:
We propose a method for content-based retrieving solar magnetograms. We use the SDO Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager output collected with SunPy PyTorch libraries. We create a mathematical representation of the magnetic field regions of the Sun in the form of a vector. Thanks to this solution we can compare short vectors instead of comparing full-disk images. In order to decrease the retrieval time, we used a fully-connected autoencoder, which reduced the 256-element descriptor to a 32-element semantic hash. The performed experiments and comparisons proved the efficiency of the proposed approach. Our approach has the highest precision value in comparison with other state-of-the-art methods. The presented method can be used not only for solar image retrieval but also for classification tasks.

Opis:
For economic growth of nation, the energy plays an important role. The excessive use of fossil fuels results the increase in global warming and depleting the resources. Due to this reason, the renewable energy sources are creating more attraction for researchers. In renewable energy sector, solar energy is the most abundant and clean source of energy. In solar thermal systems, solar air heater (SAH) is the main system which is used for heating of air. As it is simple in construction and cheaper in cost, it is of main interest for the researchers. The concept of first law and second law of thermodynamics is used for the study of the energy and exergy analysis respectively. The energy analysis is of great importance for the study of process effectiveness while the exergetic analysis is another significant concept to examine the actual behavior of process involving various energy losses and internal irreversibility. For efficient utilization of solar energy, the exergy analysis is very important tool for optimal design of solar air heaters. The aim of the present work is to review the works related to energy and exergy analysis of various types of solar air heaters and to find out the research gap for future work.

In the present study, energy and exergy analysis has been evaluated for roughened solar air heater (SAH) using arc shaped wire ribs. To achieve this aim, two different types of flow arrangement have been considered. These arrangements are: apex upstream flow and apex downstream flo. In addition to this, a smooth duct SAH has been used for comparative study. The experiments were performed using the mass flow rate of 0.007– 0.022 kg/s on outdoor condition at Jamshedpur city of India. The absorber plate roughness geometry has been designed with relative roughness height 0.0395, rib size 2.5 mm, relative roughness pitch 10 and arc angle 60◦ . The energetic and exergetic performances have been examined on the basis of the first and second law of thermodynamics. According to the results, there is observed to be the maximum thermal efficiency and exergy efficiency as 73.2% and 2.64%, respectively, for apex upstream flow SAH at 0.022 kg/s, while, at same mass flow rate the maximum thermal efficiency and exergy efficiency is obtained as 69.4% and 1.89%, respectively, for apex downstream flow SAH. In addition to this, results reported that the maximum outlet temperature and temperature difference observed at lower mass flow rate. Also examined the outlet air temperature of SAH with various mass flow rates is very important for both analysis.

The Savitzky-Golay method was applied for the power output data obtained for sunny, cloudy and partly cloudy days in order to determine the average level of power produced by a PV system at a given location. The total amount of energy was analyzed for each case.

Currently the number of solar farms, as a type of renewable sources of energy, is growing rapidly. Photovoltaic power stations have many advantages, which is an incentive for their building and development. Solar energy is readily available and inexhaustible, and its production is environmentally friendly. In the present study multiple environmental and economic criteria were taken into account to select a potential photovoltaic farm location, with particular emphasis on: protected areas, land cover, solar radiation, slope angle, proximity to roads, built-up areas, and power lines. Advanced data analysis were used because of the multiplicity of criteria and their diverse influence on the choice of a potential location. They included the spatial analysis, the Weighted Linear Combination Technique (WLC), and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) as a decision-making method. The analysis was divided into two stages. In the first one, the areas where the location of solar farms was not possible were excluded. In the second one, the best locations meeting all environmental and economic criteria were selected. The research was conducted for the Legionowo District, using data from national surveying and mapping resources such as: BDOT10k (Database of Topographic Objects), NMT (Numerical Terrain Model), and lands and buildings register. Finally, several areas meeting the criteria were chosen. The research deals with solar farms with up to 40 kW power. The results of the study are presented as thematic maps. The advantage of the method is its versatility. It can be used not only for any area, but with little modification of the criteria, it can also be applied to choose a location for wind farms.

Opis:
Purpose: Knowledge management belongs to the most important elements of organisational management, including manufacturing enterprises. Patent information plays an increasingly important role in this area. Identification of the main directions of invention activity may inspire new product and process ideas, and can help to improve existing solutions. The above is particularly important in the energy sector, which is currently struggling with increasing problems. In this context, solar energy is the subject of interest to inventive communities. The paper discusses patent applications related to solar energy, taking up the task of discovering the main tendencies of technological solutions in this area. Design/methodology/approach: In the work, a pilot study of the research aimed to indicate the directions of technological development in the field in Poland was undertaken. Shortened descriptions of selected patent documents from the Polish Patent Office (PPO) were the subject of the investigation. The descriptions were reduced to the form of a vector space model by using text mining tools. The exploration of such prepared data was done applying unsupervised text mining techniques. Hierarchical cluster analysis enabled the identification of groups of similar inventions. An algorithm to detect outliers within individual patent groups was also developed and applied. Findings: Five patent clusters were identified covering the following thematic areas: PV panel designs, PV panel component designs, the improvement of solar-heat conversion device performance, and solar collector designs. Six patent applications stood out thematically in four of the five clusters. Research limitations/implications: The research is limited to a selected number of patent documents form PPO. However, the presented method and research area are promising. It is planned to extend the analyses to a larger set of patent documents and solve the problem related to the language uniformity of patent applications along with merging data from various sources. In this aspect, a full patent description will be consider as well. Originality/value: In relation to solar energy issues, main patent areas and patent outliers that may be indicators of special interests of inventors were identified. In relation to methodology issues, new solutions within consecutive research steps were proposed.

Opis:
The research of the optimal surface structure has attracted considerable interest because of its potential application in light trapping in thin-film solar cells (TFSCs). In this paper, a super-fine structure named complex trapezoid grating is proposed to improve the optical absorption comparing to the conventional simple trapezoid grating in a-Si:H TFSCs. The numerical calculation by utilizing rigorous coupled-wave analysis (RCWA) is conducted to obtain the optical absorption of the structured surface. The results demonstrate that, compared to a planar slab, the optimized-simple trapezoid grating shows 97% enhancement of power conversion efficiency η while the complex trapezoid grating shows 131% enhancement. Obviously, the complex trapezoid grating exhibits a better performance than the simple grating, which is due to the perfect antireflective effect and microcavity resonance effect. The angular response of the optical absorption in a-Si:H TFSCs was also investigated. The results further indicate that it is a better way to select the complex trapezoid grating in improving the optical absorption of silicon-based TFSCs.

In the present work, an exergy analysis was done of two-circuit flat solar collector with thermosiphon circulation. The article presents a mathematical model of energy and exergic analysis of flat solar collectors, as well as calculations of solar radiation efficiency, temperature, flow rate of the fluid, exergy rates and exergy loss rates are done. The significance of the results achieved is high, since experimental studies can detect inefficient components of the solar heating system. The exergetic efficiency of a dual-circuit flat solar collector with a thermosiphon circulation describes irreversibility of the process according to thermodynamic parameters. This is caused by a large the degree of overheating achieved at the end of the processes of compression and evaporation, which leads to large differences in heat exchange temperature based on the heat pump cycle. The exergy efficiency value for the entire system is 70. Maximum values energy efficiency and exergy at noon, 32.5% and 2.23%, respectively. The efficiency of exergy is 4%, and the highest the loss of exergy is the difference between the absorber plates and the sun, accounting for 52.86% of the total exergy rate.
W niniejszej pracy wykonano analizę egzergetyczną płaskiego kolektora słonecznego dwuobwodowego z cyrkulacją termosyfonową. W artykule przedstawiono model matematyczny analizy energetycznej i egzergetycznej płaskich kolektorów słonecznych, a także obliczono sprawność promieniowania słonecznego, temperaturę, natężenie przepływu cieczy, wskaźniki egzergii i wskaźniki strat egzergetycznych. Maksymalne wartości sprawności energetycznej i egzergii w południe, odpowiednio 32,5% i 2,23%. Efektywność egzergii wynosi 4%, a największą stratą egzergii jest różnica pomiędzy płytami absorbera a słońcem, stanowiąca 52,86% całkowitego wskaźnika egzergii.

Opis:
The present study focuses on the numerical simulation and experimental validation of a Solar Greenhouse Dryer (SGHD). The Solar Dryers are the devices which uses solar energy to dry substances, especially crops with high moisture content, and the word Greenhouse means protection of crops from excess hot or cold climatic conditions and unwanted pests. Thus, Solar Greenhouse Dryer is a device which utilizes solar energy for drying of crops with high moisture content and prevents it from excess climatic conditions and provides optimum range of temperature and prevents the dried product from pests and dust while drying. The numerical simulation of SGHD was performed using Finite Element Analysis software ANSYS 2020 R2. Initially three different roof shapes were modelled using software CATIA V5 R3 namely triangular, trapezoidal and dome shape. The modelled SGHDs was then introduced to ANSYS domain for numerical analysis. The models were initially meshed in ANSYS workbench with unstructured tetrahedral structure of mesh over all the domains. The Solar Ray tracing content was used for numerical simulation of dryers, the solar ray tracing is used to predict direct illumination energy source produced by sun at experimental site. The experiment for no-load test was conducted at Bahe Borgaon, Dist- Sangli, Maharashtra, India at 17.115°N and 74.33°E.

Opis:
A major source of energy on Earth is solar irradiation. This paper uses the Kolmogorov-Zurbenko filter to smooth and examine sunspot numbers and proves that solar irradiation levels near Earth are strictly proportional to sunspot numbers. This paper also examines the transport of that energy through the atmosphere to Earth’s surface. Long term air temperatures on the surface of Earth perfectly follow the cosine square law along latitudes. Time components of long term temperatures have oscillations which follow oscillations in sunspot numbers, but due to the regular delays in energy transmission they are delayed 4-7 years. Cloud formations and vapor accumulations also contribute to those delays, which have a well-organized time-space structure. The main purpose of this paper is the numerical identification of human influence over changes in solar activities, which may allow researchers to identify the effects of various sources of those influences. This evaluation can only be achieved by separating the scales in order to avoid any false influence from other scales. The clear separation of scales can only be achieved using the Kolmogorov-Zurbenko filter.
