The new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) started in Wuhan City of China on December 31st 2019As at August 3,2020 a total of 18,056,310 million cases had been diagnosed globally with over 689,219 deaths with cases in Nigeria snowballing gradually becoming lethal. Given Nigeria’s socio-economic and demographic significance to African continent, it is imperative to understand the cultural norms that may aid or obstructs prevention and treatment of the disease in order to halt its transmission. Data for study came from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and other publicly available data sources supported with PEN-3 cultural model developed in 1989 by Airhihenbuwa. The model places culture at the core of the development, implementation and evaluation of successful public health interventions. COVID-19 transmission increases with large population concentration in urban areas and proximity to major entry points to other adjacent states and countries. The paper suggested that dominant cultures, civilization and religious practices should be adhered to, adopted as the case may be for restrictions such physical distancing, hand hygiene, use of face masks and another prophylactic regimen to flatten the curve of the pandemic in Nigeria and likely occurrence of similar disease in future.

Opis:
Violence has been part of the human history since its very beginning. As some believe, it is “Cain’s sin” that determines violent human behaviour. Though this belief is obviously simplified, it reflects the nature of man. We are eager to seek evil in others, in individuals and in social structures. It is not just the family that is oppressive. Violence is ubiquitous; it is inflicted by peer groups, social classes, organisations, and by the state. Violence is commonly defined as social behaviour against someone or something, the aggressor being on one side and the victim on the other. Usually, a narrow definition of violence is used; i.e., violence is understood as the use of force to obtain from others what they are not willing to give or what they do not want to do. However, violence is a more complex phenomenon. Some forms of violence are sophisticated and difficult to discern, not only in the behaviour of others but also in our own actions. Violence occurs on a micro-scale in the form of pressure, extortion, inducement, or restrictions, and on a macro-scale – as wars, crises, terroristic acts, or revolutions. Violence is not only physical and psychological; it may also be personal, structural, hidden, explicit, emotional, and rational. What follows, it takes place in a wide array of spaces: in culture, sport, politics, the media, in the public space and at home. Therefore, the narrow definition of violence fails to include many of its aspects, and as such it is not practical. Using such a definition, we are left with extreme cases, so in fact we define pathologies. A serious difficulty in defining violence is connected with defining human rights in a unified way. These vary from culture to culture and have been evolving throughout history. Violation of these rights constitutes the essence of what is referred to as violent behaviour. Each society defines and attempts to prevent violence differently, and also in its own way indicates those who judge the perpetrators of prohibited acts.

Opis:
The article concerns the child from an alcoholic family in a pre-school environment. The author presents a theoretical introduction on definitions important for understanding the subject, then addresses the subject of social pathology as a factor disturbing the durability of the family system. The topic of social roles in the alcoholic family and their impact on the child’s socialization process continue to arouse interest. Another issue raised in the article is the topic of co-dependence, starting from the general definition and understanding of the concept and ending with the impact of this phenomenon on the child’s functioning. The issue analyzed and reflected is as follows: a child from an alcoholic family as a student – in particular in relationships with teachers and peers. The author reflected moreover on the possible difficulties a child in a pathological family may encounter in the school environment, as well as on suggested practical solutions and a support network that may help the individual and its immediate environment to fight against difficulties and to motivate change. The article has an introduction and ending, which aptly sums up the issues dealt with.

Opis:
Introduction: The approach of alcohol-dependent people and medical personnel to alcohol-related problems may affect the efficacy of preventive and therapeutic measures aimed at alcohol-dependence treatment. Material and methods: The studies involved alcohol-dependent people subjected to inpatient health care and outpatient heath care. The questionnaire study involved 308 subjects, including 104 male inpatients treated at the detoxification centre, 102 patients of outpatient detoxification departments (all males) and 102 health care personnel members employed in detoxification facilities. The studies were carried out in 1995. Results: Inpatients and outpatients differ in their evaluations of the causes and treatment of alcohol dependence relatively insignificantly. A comparison of the answers of patients and health care personnel indicated that the patients pointed mainly to life failures or bad traditions and customs. The patients did not try to deny their parents’ upbringing errors and bad example set by their families and friends. Conclusions: Inpatients as compared to outpatients more frequently chose attitudes which did not support cessation of alcohol drinking. Inpatients, as compared to outpatients, were more often characterized by worse financial situation, worse family relationships, and lower educational level. The health care personnel was usually characterized by health promoting statements related to alcohol problems, prevailing over the patients, especially inpatients.

Opis:
The article attempts to determine the usefulness of the concept of resourcefulness for research in the field of social history of the People’s Republic of Poland. On the basis of examples concerning problems with provisions, housing, professional work and retirement benefits, an analysis of specific issues was made, where this resourcefulness manifested itself particularly intensively. The research shows that in many cases it was pathological. It meant a strategy of behavior consisting in achieving the assumed goals by individuals or various groups of people using means that are in conflict with the norms, rules, procedures accepted as appropriate in a given political and socio-economic order.
