Virtual Machine (VM), called also machine simulator, is 3D computer model which is geometrically and functionally the same like real machine (CNC machine tool or robot). They are used mainly for different kind of syntax errors and collision detection in CNC programs. Whole simulation process is also called Virtual Machining. This kind of off-line programming require CAM software support to generate tool paths and transform them to machine commands. The most advanced virtual machining software gives more possibilities to influence machines behavior – it is not only simulation software. This article describe it based on Eureka virtual machining software.

Opis:
The paper considers problem of city transportation system performance. Reliability analysis of such a complex system is complicated by several factors. One of them is the possibility of logistic support elements unreliability defined as unavailability of spare elements when desired, what in result may lead to decrease of performance of the system being supported. Thus, both systems must be considered in a single model. However, the simultaneous setting of all structural parameters (e.g. redundancy, repair shop capacity) and control variables (e.g. spare part inventory levels, maintenance policy parameters, time resource) is mathematically a hard problem. This paper investigates Petri net model of the system with the use of Monte Carlo simulation as a solution technique. Comparison of the simulation results with characteristics of real-life system is given.

The article presents the results of the simulation studies concerning the impact of random production interruptions on the efficiency of multi-spindle machining centers. Four different machining center configuration models were developed using a dedicated class of stochastic Petri nets. In addition to the number of machine spindles, the number of simultaneously mounted parts, loading time of parts, their machining time, and reliability parameters regarding the frequency of machine interruptions caused by random factors were also taken into account as model parameters. A series of virtual tests was carried out for machining processes over a period of 1000 hours of operation. Analysis of the results confirmed the purpose of conducting simulation tests prior to making a decision regarding the purchase of a multispindle milling center. This work fills the existing research gap, as there are no examples in the technical literature of evaluating the effectiveness of multi-spindle machining centers.

Opis:
Simulation studies of the hobbing process kinematics can effectively improve the accuracy of the machined gears. The parameters of the cut-off layers constitute the basis for predicting the cutting forces and the workpiece stress-strain state. Usually applied methods for simulation of the hobbing process are based on simplified cutting schemes. Therefore, there are significant differences between the simulated parameters and the real ones. A new method of hobbing process modeling is described in the article. The proposed method is more appropriate, since the algorithm for the momentary transition surfaces formation and computer simulation of the 3D chip cutting sections are based on the results of hobbing cutting processes kinematics and on rheological analysis of the hob cutting process formation. The hobbing process is nonstationary due to the changes in the intensity of plastic strain of the material. The total cutting force is represented as a function of two time-variable parameters, such as the chip’s 3D parameters and the chip thickness ratio depending on the parameters of the machined layer.

The production processes included catalytic dehydration of methanol in an adiabatic fixed-bed reactor and two columns product separations. In this study, the technological process for dimethyl ether (DME) synthesis is built on PRO/II platform based on the combined parameters of the reaction dynamic model for methanol dehydration reaction, the improved NRTL model of the liquid phase, the PR model of vapor phase. In order to validate the proposed model, the simulation results have been compared with the available data from a set of industrial production equipment with a production capacity of 200 000 tonnes per annum. A comparison between the calculated and measured results has proved that these results are satisfactory. The bed height and the volume of the catalytic bed are calculated aim at one million t/a DME yields and while taking account of high-purity DME production. After discussing the influence of feed stage location and reflux ratio for DME product purity, the suitable unit operation conditions are chosen. Accordingly, accurate process simulation results provide the basis and guidance for an improvement and development of the similar industrial device.

Opis:
In mid-scale and large five axis overhead gantry type milling machines, the vertical z-slide (ram) often constitutes one of the most sensitive and critical components regarding stiffness, structural vibrations and thermal influences. During machining, the z-slide is loaded by (quasi-) static process and drive forces, transient acceleration forces, periodic excitations by the tool engagement, as well as by thermal effects resulting from altering ambient conditions, heated chips, cooling lubricant and power losses in drives, guides and bearings. Deflections, thermal deformations and vibrations of the z-slide lead to geometric machining errors and inacceptable surface location errors at the workpieces. Furthermore, instable cutting conditions and regenerative chatter limit applicable material removal rates and, thus, productivity. In this work, a newly developed hybrid material structure for an exemplary z-slide, involving metal parts and mineral cast, is introduced. Structural optimization methods as well as process simulation techniques were applied in order to derive the final design solution. The integration of active cooling circuits for thermal stabilization is investigated and the use of fibre optical strain sensors is analysed with respect to a state monitoring of the machine tool component.

Moreover was developed adequate to the real the virtual model of cooled water continuous casting mould, which was used in simulation of solidification process of Al continuous ingot, made in ANSYS Fluent software. In result was determined the influence of casting velocity and temperature of cooling water on position of crystallization front inside the continuous casting mould. While the shape and size of grains in primary structure of Al continuous ingots were determined on the basis of metallographic macroscopic studies. On the basis of the results analysis was affirmed that increase of casting velocity strongly influences on position of crystallization front and causes increase of temperature of ingot leaving the continuous casting mould. In result the increase of casting velocity supposedly leads to decrease of temperature gradient on crystallization front what creates coarse grains in primary structure of aluminum continuous ingots and caused low usable properties i.e. suitability to plastic deformation.

At present peristaltic pumps are widely used in many branches of industry and national economy. Simplicity of construction, processability and possibility of pumping liquids with big quantity of solid particles are the main advantages while using peristaltic pumps. Therefore development of methods of rational choice of parameters at designing of peristaltic pumps is the actual problem. To develop universal mathematical models of dynamic processes in peristaltic pumps for definition of rational technical parameters. In dynamic processes we propose to use differential equations of motion in the Lagrange form, where the angle of rotation of the pump rotor is taken as a universal coordinate. Mathematical model of dynamic processes in peristaltic pump with hydraulic drive has been created on the base of differential equation. The function of resistance forces caused by gravity forces of mixture particles in the hose reel has been determined. On the basis of the non-linear model of the resistance forces to the flow of the fluid Bingham method of constructing the dependence of the pressure drop on the angular velocity of the rotor to determine the resistance forces to the flow of the fluid has been proposed. The result of dynamic processes simulation is the determination of interrelationship of technological parameters of the device functioning: the velocity of the medium and pump performance is increasing at reducing the length of the diverting hose and reducing the height of its rise; a significant influence on the average speed has plastic viscosity of the environment; a significant change in the yield strength has an insignificant impact on the speed.

However, coal industry yet stays uncovered by successful applications of geometallurgical approach due to certain specifics of a commodity. Production of coal preparation plant in terms of quality and quantity can be forecasted knowing behavior of coal bearing particles in process that is controlled by petrological and mineralogical properties. Application of process mineralogical tools together with comprehensive metallurgical testwork helps to acquire essential information for a simulation of coal preparation operations. Being combined with geological, geochemical and geotechnical data available for a deposit, outcome of process simulation will form holistic geometallurgical model. Once implemented, such models will become a powerful instrument for efficient utilization of resources and proper risk management, e.g. adaptation of the process to variations in run-of-mine coal quality, “what-if” analysis of alternative production strategies, forecasting of financial results, assessment of environmental impact.

Opis:
In the era of Industry 4.0, the digitization of production processes is one of the important elements contributing to the reduction of uncertainty related to the implementation of new production methods. The worldwide epidemic situation and its constraints have resulted in supply chain continuity problems. These problems make enterprises look for the possibility of producing products that they need at the moment and which they cannot obtain from the market. In special cases, this may also apply to spare parts necessary to maintain the continuity of production. The main reason for research on comparing production processes is meeting the challenges related to the pandemic situation and problems in maintaining timeliness, flexibility, and continuity of the supply chain. The first stage of the research was to visualize the course of the process and determine the lead times for both production methods. For further analysis, a digital process model was used to compare the hybrid and the classical method to check the viability of the interchangeability of methods for the production process of the flange part. The interchangeability of production methods was dictated by problems related to the supply of components for the execution of orders. The article simulates the model for unit and small-lot production in batches of 10 and 100 pieces, considering such aspects as: order completion time, energy consumption of the process, production costs, taking into account the classic and hybrid methods. The conducted research was aimed at determining the profitability of the production of flange-type products by means of classical processing and hybrid and checking the interchangeability of production methods in accordance with quality requirements as well as reducing uncertainty with the implementation of new production systems in changing market conditions. The simulations show that the use of hybrid production is recommended for unit production. In the case of small-lot production, already with 10 items, production in the traditional process is 21% cheaper, and for the production of 100 items, the cost of traditional production is reduced by 33% compared to hybrid production.

Opis:
A proper selection of steam reforming catalyst geometry has a direct effect on the efficiency and economy of hydrogen production from natural gas and is a very important technological and engineering issue in terms of process optimisation. This paper determines the influence of widely used seven-hole grain diameter (ranging from 11 to 21 mm), h/d (height/diameter) ratio of catalyst grain and Sh/St (hole surface/total cylinder surface in cross-section) ratio (ranging from 0.13 to 0.37) on the gas load of catalyst bed, gas flow resistance, maximum wall temperature and the risk of catalyst coking. Calculations were based on the one-dimensional pseudo-homogeneous model of a steam reforming tubular reactor, with catalyst parameters derived from our investigations. The process analysis shows that it is advantageous, along the whole reformer tube length, to apply catalyst forms of h/d = 1 ratio, relatively large dimensions, possibly high bed porosity and Sh/St ≈ 0.30-0.37 ratio. It enables a considerable process intensification and the processing of more natural gas at the same flow resistance, despite lower bed activity, without catalyst coking risk. Alternatively, plant pressure drop can be reduced maintaining the same gas load, which translates directly into diminishing the operating costs as a result of lowering power consumption for gas compression.
