    This paper asserts that the growing expansion of the micro realm of social activity calls for the exploration of everyday experience, seen as ranging from the most extraordinary to the most ordinary. The paper focuses on two constitutive features of the ordinary type of experience, namely, normality and boredom. It conceptualizes normality as an outcome of people’s potential to construct meaning of their ordinary experiences and boredom as a state signaling our inability to realize this desire. Both types of ordinary experience are in the core of everyday life and thus their consequences can be detrimental to the quality of social life. This paper’s discussion of normality and boredom includes both sociological and literary works where these two phenomena find their rich expression.

    This study mainly focused on the relationship between number sense and algebraic thinking. Previous studies have provided evidence that number sense plays an important role in developing algebraic thinking. The role of symbol and pattern sense are yet to discover in relation to number sense and algebraic thinking. The purpose of this study was to identify the mediating effects of symbol sense and pattern sense in year five pupils’ relationship between number sense and algebraic thinking. To do so, two mathematics tests were carried out among 720 year five pupils in the district of Malacca, Malaysia. The collected data were analysed using a partial least squares-structural equation modeling approach. The data collected were analysed using SPSS 22.0 and SmartPLS 3.0. Results demonstrated that symbol sense and pattern sense are good mediators between year five pupils’ number sense and algebraic thinking. This result of the study supports the past studies related to the role of number sense, symbol and pattern sense in developing algebraic thinking. The presented study provides suggestions as intervention to increase students’ making sense ability in numbers, symbols and patterns to develop algebraic thinking.

    The paper focuses on discourse and discourse analysis as a tool for shedding light on the phenomena of trade union recruitment and organization. The author employs discursive data from interviews with numerous trade union officials in Slovenia as a means of shedding light on the process of organizational sense-making, identifying the specific terms officials employ to describe the world of Slovenian trade unionism and trade union organizing. In her analysis, the author argues that age seems to be the most significant factor distinguishing the perspectives among the interviewed officials, pointing thus to the significance of generational changes for understanding the challenges to trade union organizing in Slovenia today.

    We define the need for sense-making as the desire to find reliable connections between the objects, situations, and relationships that people encounter. We have proposed and tested that there are possible individual differences in the need for sense-making and that these individual differences are insightful in characterizing individuals and their behaviors. A correlational study (N = 229) showed that need for sense-making was positively related to self-esteem, extroversion, conscientiousness, openness, and sense of control. Additionally, a higher need for sense-making was associated with greater perception of it as an important part of people’s identity. Thus, need for sense-making is relevant to understanding individual differences and can furthermore comprise a significant element of people’s identity. These results break new ground in the study of individual differences in the need for sense-making and can be of great importance in work and organizational psychology.

    When considering the notion of narrative in the visual arts, a rather important problem is encountered: how can an isolated whole like a canvas, an installation or a sculpture be analyzed in terms of narrative and, hence, in terms of a sequence? The article aims to show that the problem of a sequence versus an isolated item in the visual arts can be solved through the mode of implicit anticipation of the future and implicit recognition of the past. That is to say, although it is difficult to consider a sequence structure concerning an isolated item like a canvas or an installation, it is possible to think of it as embedded in a more abstract sequence, wherein the work of art is a ‘moment’ between the past and the future implicitly present in it. I would also like to argue that the most important part of narrative is not so much the technical aspect of its sequence-bound structure, but rather that which is implicit to the definition of narrative: that, above all, narrative is a symptom of a compulsion to make sense of the world.
    W przypadku sztuk wizualnych kwestia narracyjności napotyka istotny problem: jak można analizować wyodrębnioną całość, taką jak chociażby płótno, instalacja czy rzeźba, w kategoriach sekwencji? Chciałabym pokazać, że problem sekwencji wobec wyizolowanego przedmiotu w sztukach wizualnych można rozwiązać poprzez przewidywanie przyszłości i rozpoznanie przeszłości. Oznacza to, że chociaż trudno jest rozważać strukturę sekwencji dotyczącą pojedynczego przedmiotu, takiego jak płótno lub instalacja, można o nim myśleć jako o bardziej abstrakcyjnej sekwencji, w której dzieło sztuki jest ‘chwilą’ pomiędzy przeszłością i przyszłością implicite w nim obecnymi. Chciałabym również argumentować, że najważniejszą częścią tego, co jest narracją, nie tyle stanowi techniczny aspekt jej struktury związanej z sekwencją, ale raczej ten, który nie jest obecny w definicji narracji: przede wszystkim narracja ukazuje kompulsywną potrzebę tworzenia sensu świata.

    Musical sense-making relies on two distinctive strategies: tracking the moment-to-moment history of the actual unfolding and recollecting actual and previous sounding events in a kind of synoptic overview. Both positions are not opposed but complement each other. The aim of this contribution, therefore, is to provide a comprehensive framework that provides both conceptual and operational tools for coping with the sounds. Five major possibilities are proposed in this regard: (i) the concepts of perspective and resolution, which refer to the distance the listener takes with respect to the sounding music and the fine-grainedness of his/her discriminative abilities; (ii) the continuous/discrete dichotomy which conceives of the music as one continuous flow as against a division in separate and distinct elements; (iii) the in time/outside-of-time distinction, with the former proceeding in real time and the latter proceeding outside of the time of unfolding; (iv) the deictic approach to musical sense-making, which conceives of an act of mental pointing to the music, and (v) the levels of processing, which span a continuum between primitive sensory reactivity to actual sounding stimuli and high-level symbolic processing.

    Мета дослідження – проаналізувати процеси організаційного навчання при розвитку організаційних компетенцій в двох навчальних закладах, що пропонують курси в рамках вищого технологічної освіти в Бразилії. Дизайн/Метод/Підхід дослідження. З огляду на експлоративну природу даного дослідження, застосовано якісні методи, зокрема метод множинного аналізу практичних прикладів (multiple case study). Результати дослідження. Виявлено процес навчання, існуючий на організаційному рівні, який з'явився в результаті інституціоналізації нових знань і нових практик. На підставі даних, отриманих з кожного практичного прикладу, стало можливим підтвердити, що компетенцію можна як набути, так і втратити. Зміна у компетенціях підтверджує динамічний характер даного процесу. Теоретичне значення дослідження. Цим дослідженням підтверджено модель, рекомендовану дослідником Патріотта (Patriotta) у 2003 р. Запропоновано варіанти її вдосконалення у галузі розуміння процесів організаційного навчання і розвитку організаційних компетенцій. Практичне значення дослідження. Менеджери можуть побачити як компетенції змінюються в часі і різних організаційних контекстах, відповідно до зовнішніх подій і зміни своїх бізнес-цілей, намірів і стратегії. Оригінальність/Цінність/Наукова новизна дослідження. З’ясовано, що організаційне навчання – це результат поглинання компетенцій, задіяних у цьому процесі. Використовуючи метафору визначено, що компетенції організації представляють собою «ДНК» організаційного навчання. Обмеження дослідження/Перспективи подальших досліджень: У роботі проаналізовано лише два практичних приклади і для більш повного опису результатів необхідні нові тематичні дослідження.  Тип статті – емпірична.  
    Цель исследования – проанализировать процессы организационного обучения при развитии организационных компетенций в двух учебных заведениях, предлагающих курсы в рамках высшего технологического образования в Бразилии. Дизайн/Метод/Подход исследования. Ввиду эксплоративной природы данного исследования, применены качественные методы, в частности метод множественного анализа практических примеров (multiple case study). Результаты исследования. Выявлен процесс обучения, существующий на организационном уровне, который появился в результате институционализации новых знаний и новых практик. На основании данных, полученных из каждого практического примера, стало возможным подтвердить, что компетенцию можно как получить , так и утратить. Изменение в компетенциях подтверждает динамический характер данного процесса. Теоретическое значение исследования. Этим исследованием подтверждена модель, предложенная исследователем Патриотта (Patriotta) в 2003 г. Предложены варианты ее усовершенствования в области понимания процессов органзиционного обучения и развития организационных компетенций. Практическое значение исследования. Менеджеры могут увидеть как компетенции изменяются во времени и различных организационных контекстах, в соответствии с внешними событиями и изменениями своих бизнесс-целей, намерений и стратегии. Оригинальность/Ценность/Научная новизна исследования. Определено, что орагнизационное обучение – это результат поглащения компетенций, задействованных в этом процессе. Используя метафору определено, что компетенции организации представляют собой «ДНК» организационного обучения. Ограничение исследования/Перспективы дальнейших исследований. В роботі проанализировано только два практических примера и для более полного описания результатов необходимы новые тематические исследования.  Тип статьи – эмпирическая.
    Purpose – to analyze the process of organizational learning in development of organizational competences in two educational institutions that offer Higher Technological Education Courses in Brazil. Design/Method/Approach. As for the methodology, the nature of the research is exploratory, with a qualitative approach, and a multiple case study method. Findings. The results made it possible to conclude that there was a learning process at the organizational level, as new knowledge and new practices had been institutionalized. Based on the data found in each case, it was possible to certify that some competences can be built and others eliminated, shaping the dynamic character of the process. Theoretical implications. It was possible to corroborate the model used (Patriotta, 2003) and propose advances to it, towards an understanding of organizational learning processes in the development of organizational competences. Practical implications. The manager can see competences in dynamics, changing over time and in the context of the organization, according to the events and changes in their objectives, intentions, and strategies. Originality/Value. We found that organizational learning is the result of the acquisition of a competence that represents this process. Using a metaphor, it was found that the competences of an organization represent the 'DNA' of the organizational learning. Research limitations/Future research. This paper analyzed two cases only and new case studies are needed to characterize more fully on these results.  Paper type – empirical.
