Travelling away from the “artsy post-modern lefty-pinko university”. Noor's transcultural experience and the duties of the intellectualThe volume Qur'an and cricket consists of several travelogues produced by a Malay intellectual, Farish A. Noor, during his trips to the most problematic places of the world, marked by the contemporary “battles of God”. This book is interpreted in terms of a quest for transcultural condition understood as a dimension of experience transcending the multiplicity of cultural orders in dissent. Noor sketches his own definition of the intellectual, contrasted in this article with the visions given by Gramsci, Adorno and Said. The subject of the transcultural condition is defined as “itinerant scholar” transgressing the limitations of the academia by his nomadic immersion in the world. The attitude of the traveller is marked by openness and readiness to listen, even if he is confronted to irrational mumbling. Precisely the mumbling of anger and hate becomes the most difficult challenge to the intellectual unable to deal with it rationally. The only remaining answer is a sheer presence and love, emotional attachment to the world, as the scholar rejects the temptation of the ivory tower that would isolate him from the otherness. The modality of speech that opposes the hateful mumbling isn't based on clear, persuasive argumentation, but on ironic ambivalence conjugated with directness and the rejection of euphemism. Most importantly, the “itinerant scholar” is not a preacher. In opposition to the leftist tradition of defining the intellectual as a secular figure, the “itinerant scholar” remains deeply immersed in religion. The challenge of building up the transcultural dimension is connected to the necessity of finding a place for the authentic religious experience in times of “battles of God”.Z dala od “nowinkarskiego, postmodernistycznego, lewicująco-różowego uniwersytetu”. O doświadczeniach transkulturowych Farisha Noora i powinnościach intelektualistyKsiążka Qur'an and cricket stanowi zbiór notatek z podróży malajskiego intelektualisty Farisha A. Noora do najbardziej problematycznych miejsc świata, gdzie toczone są „bitwy o Boga”. W niniejszym artykule jest ona interpretowana jako zapis poszukiwania kondycji transkulturowej, polegającej nie na zajmowaniu pozycji pomiędzy stronami konfliktu lub też poza nim, ale na poszukiwaniu przestrzeni doświadczenia mieszczącej się ponad porządkami kulturowymi. Noor szkicuje własną koncepcję intelektualisty, która w artykule zostaje skontrastowana z zapatrywaniami Gramsciego, Adorno i Saida. Podmiotem kondycji transkulturowej ma być „wędrowny uczony”, przełamujący ograniczenia akademickich zapatrywań dzięki nomadycznemu doświadczaniu świata w podróży. Stanowi ona sposób wyjścia ku innemu z gotowością do wysłuchania, nawet jeśli jedynym, co się pojawia, jest bełkot. Właśnie bełkotliwość gniewu i nienawiści stanowi wszakże największe wyzwanie dla intelektualisty, który nie może jej sprostać racjonalną argumentacją, w jakiej jest biegły. Jedyną możliwą odpowiedzią jest więc obecność i miłość, emocjonalne przywiązanie do świata, odmowa porzucenia, opuszczenia, zdystansowania się wobec niego. Natomiast sposobem mówienia, jaki przeciwstawia się bełkotowi nie jest jasność i jednoznaczność dyskursu perswazyjnego, lecz przeciwnie, niejednoznaczność i ambiwalencja wypowiedzi ironicznej. „Wędrowny uczony” nie jest więc kaznodzieją, lecz ironistą. W przeciwieństwie do lewicowej tradycji definiowania sylwetki i powinności intelektualisty, „wędrowny uczony” zostaje scharakteryzowany, choć w bardzo dyskretny sposób, jako postać zakorzeniona w wymiarze religijnym. Wyzwanie zbudowania przestrzeni transkulturowej powiązane jest więc z potrzebą ocalenia i pomieszczenia w niej autentycznego doświadczenia religijnego w dobie „bitew o Boga”.

Phalera bucephala belongs to the moth of Notodontidae family. The food plant list of its larvae covers many tree and shrub species, including those used in energy crops and agroforestry. The aim of this study was to collect and organise the information available in selected online literature databases on the buff-tip, taking into account scientific articles published in the last decade. In addition to a description of the insect’s appearance, the review covers issues concerning its occurrence, development, feeding mode, behaviour and relationship with other organisms. The summary also assesses the usefulness of the web sources used to characterise the species in question.

Opis:
Review papers, especially those with features of meta-analysis, are a valuable part of the scientific literature, both from the point of view of specialists and researchers seeking information in fields new to them. The basis of this type of publication is the proper selection of study sources. The aim of this study was to assess the usefulness of the Google Scholar search engine in the selection of material for review papers in entomology. The analysis was based on a sample assignment involving the characterisation of the beetle species Anomala dubia. Problems arising in using the retrieved resource were identified and assigned to selected categories. The search results included almost all relevant records from the SCOPUS and Web of Science databases, plus a number of potentially valuable publications from other sources. The collected material was not sufficient to characterise the studied species in detail, but this could also be due to the lack of digitalised data in the available literature resources.

This paper examines the question of what values might underlie a global regimen of law. It is concerned with the level of culture and learning that could prevail among a future global public. It begins by explaining how law is a central element in the project of globalization, and how legal influence touches on all areas of global order. The paper discusses the two predominant Western traditions of law, Anglophone and Civilian, the legal culture each represents, and the values implicit in their two different conceptions of legality. It reviews certain fundamental elements present in each tradition since their near simultaneous beginnings in the medieval world. It explores the relationship of both legal methods to the realm of public understanding, especially in their two differing versions of the university as a center of learning. In doing so, the paper also examines the contrasting roles of scholar and judge in each legal system. It then looks forward to probable difficulties in any attempt at combining the two traditions of law into a single global regime. The paper concludes by using America as a model to contemplate what values might shape an Anglophone legal culture, applicable to all peoples in all localities around the world. Finally, the paper summarizes the foregoing, and looks toward the possible redefinition of culture and learning in a global Rule of Law.

Aim/purpose - This paper systematically reviews the literature of employer branding (EB) and employee-based brand equity (EBBE) using the Application Programming Interface (API) provided by Google Scholar. While combining EB and EBBE this paper considers both the perspective of current, as well as potential employees and provides a systematization of knowledge related to organizational attractiveness and the impact of employees on the organizational brand. Design/methodology/approach - This study reviews the progresses in employer branding since 2009 to 2022, therefore ranging from the time that the concept of employee-based brand equity was proposed by King and Grace (2009). A four-stage process empowered by was used to review the existing literature: 1) to identify the current tendencies Google Trends search was applied; 2) to search the databases and to identify the most active contributors (publishers and authors) the scholar API was used; 3) PRISMA-S checklist was applied to ensure the rigorousness of systematic literature review; 4) to expose the interdependence of the concepts a bibliometric analysis was conducted using VOSviewer 1.6.18 software; 5) finally this study proposes a comprehensive framework of employer branding. Findings - The research on employer branding has grown substantially in the past decades and various conceptual and empirical studies have advanced the knowledge of both employer and internal branding. Still, the progression in the literature is narrow due to complexity of the field. This study identifies the main dimensions of employer branding and offers a comprehensive framework to systematize the current state of art. Research implications/limitations - The multidisciplinary nature of employer branding has led to a dispersed understanding of constructs and applications in the academic studies. This study focuses on the marketing/branding perspective and does not consider the studies grounded purely in human resource management. Originality/value/contribution - This study increases our understanding of the current literature and new research trends in employer branding and employee-based brand equity. Additionally, it explains the link between EB and EBBE. While applying the recently developed scholar API and artificial intelligence empowered software to conduct the systematic review, this study creates a procedure that can be used by researchers in an array of fields.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The paper seeks to clarify the political goals of promoting the “philosophy of peace” in post-war Poland under communist rule in order to assess its credibility for the present. PROBLEM AND RESEARCH METHODS: Contemporary academic textbooks devoted to the “philosophy of security” reproduce the interpretative patterns found in scientific analyzes of the “philosophy of peace” from the communist era. By proclaiming the unconditional priority of security for contemporary man, they provide no justification for this thesis. Using the contextualization method, what they consider universal is verified here by confronting the circumstances of the era in which it arose. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The paper reminds the most important conditions of Polish statehood subordinated to an external superpower after World War II. It discusses the possible social roles of scholars within the system of political repression. In this context, it analyzes the intellectual biography of the most important classic, to whom contemporary authors in the field of the philosophy of security refer. RESEARCH RESULTS: The analysis proves the explicitly profiled social role of the classic within the system of state subordination and lack of national sovereignty. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: The reproduction of interpretative patterns taken for granted from similar works should therefore be considered scientifically unreliable in the conditions of political and scientific freedom.

Sijo is an original genre of short Korean poems with a strictly defined structure reflecting the rhythm of a traditional Korean song. Sijo poems are the only traditional genre of Korean poetry, which is still practised by contemporary Korean poets. It gained tremendous popularity during the reign of the Joseon dynasty, especially among the Confucian scholars and noblemen who ruled the country. Sijo poetry has undergone a transformation as far as the topics and structure of sijo poems are concerned. Initially the authors of sijo belonged to the ruling class and were solely men (Confucian scholars). But with the passage of time and the development of society the representatives of the middle class started writing sijo poems as well. The sijo transformations also included the linguistic changes, which may be observed through the course of sijo history. The topics also changed as new types of sijo appeared beside traditional sijo devoted mainly to Confucian ideas formulated in a refined language.
시조는 한국 전통시가의 운율을 바탕으로 엄격하게 규정된 형태와 구조를 지닌 한국 고유의 단시이다. 시조는 한국의 전통시가들 중에서는 유일하게 현재까지도 창작되는 장르이다. 조선시대에 시조는 지배계급이었던 사대부- 유학자들 사이에서 크게 애호되었다. 시조는 그 역사 속에서 주제 및 형태가 변화되었다. 애초에 시조의 작가들은 지배계급인 양반-사대부 남성들에 국한되었으나, 시간이 지나고 사회가 발전 변화함에 따라 중인계층의 사람들도 시조를 창작하게 되었으며 여성으로서는 유일하게 기생이 동참했다. 고상한 언어로 주로 유교이념을 표현하던 전통시조 이외에 새로운 형태의 시조들이 나타남에 따라 시조의 언어는 물론 주제 또한 변하게 되었다.

Opis:
Observations of Japanese pagoda trees indicate that they undergo a full cycle of vegetative and generative development without self-renovation. The aim of this study was to obtain a successive media protocol propagation of Japanese pagoda tree by in vitro cultures. The effects of growth regulators were studied with reference to primary regeneration, shoot multiplication and rooting. As explants source were used the part of shoot of 90-year-oldtree. Explants were placed on MS (Murashige and Skoog 1962) basal medium with the addition of 6-benzylaminopurine – BAP (1.0–2.0 mg dm-3), thidiazuron – TDZ (0.1–0.3 mg dm-3) and indole-3-acetic acid – IAA (0.5–1.0 mg dm-3). BAP was the growth regulator which significantly increased shoot regeneration on initial explants. TDZ in turn, inhibited the formation of adventitious shoots and caused the explants which had been placed on the medium to die. The multiplication of the Japanese pagoda tree by in vitro cultures should be conducted on MS media with the addition of 0.5 mg dm-3 BAP, and they should be rooted on media with the addition of 0.3 mg dm-3 indole-3-butyric acid – IBA. It seems, that devising an efficient method of Japanese pagoda tree micropropagation is realistic.

The rapid explosion in technology is unpredictable and very drastic such that it has conquered every aspect and areas of human life. There is such areas where technology has not yet reached. Education being an area that has direct impact on the society is nowhere an exception. Hence, as a teacher or teacher educator one has to update his knowledge and skills in using technology, especially ICT, as the classrooms are being dominated by smart classrooms. They now have to learn how to cope with these technological advancements and innovative approaches in their classrooms Uses of technology in the professional development and capacity building of teachers may be defined in two folds; that is technology for professional development and professional development for efficient use of technology in teaching learning process. When technology develops in a very drastic speed, it is the duty of the teacher to update himself on various areas of ICT that can be used in the classroom transaction. Various online programs and online learning are being introduced that can be used by teachers in the classroom. Hence, the teacher has to update his knowledge and skills through various professional development programmes. The administration of schools has to provide such platform to teachers to undergo such training to cope up with current development and changes in technology. Technology can be used not only as an information management tool, but also as a means of reaching students of diverse backgrounds in a way professionally sound (Torres, 2006). Hence, technology can be seen having implications for classroom learning as well as in reaching students of the disadvantaged group provided the availability of technology in their areas. The use of technology can assess the quality of their papers or articles using technology. It helps to identify aspects such as the number of times cited, plagiarism etc. These educational software has been introduced in order to maximize quality of all papers being published. In the present paper, we have discussed the linkage of technology with special focus on ICT and Professional development of teachers. Focus of this paper is on and around E- Resources, Integration of Advanced Technology in Teacher Training, citations index, and impact of research publication in the public domain.

Not only private but also professional contacts can be established and maintained with the use of social media. Specialized social media platforms like ResearchGate (RG) or Google Scholar (GS) can integrate scientists with similar interests, educational career or professional background. Web 2.0 tools and metrics offered by the platforms are used for both access to up-to-date research, quick communication and to build global research networks, create professional digital identities or evaluate/compare scientific achievements. The aim of the article is to show if ResearchGate and Google Scholar platforms are frequently used by Polish business researchers and indicate the differences between the values of metrics provided by RG and GS. The author explores the values of metrics provided by the platforms and their usefulness in the evaluation process. The paper presents the characteristics of metrics used by ResearchGate and Google Scholar. The author compares the values of three directly comparable metrics: citations, number of items and h-index provided by both RG and GS portals. The main part of the article is a comparative analysis of Google Scholar and ResearchGate usage by business scientists from Poland. Data of 364 researchers from three faculties of economics (top, middle and least prestigious – according the educational ranks) were collected. The performed literature review, the author’s experience and a comparative analysis indicate that specialized social networks are very helpful and easy to use, however not frequently used by Polish business researchers. Both Google Scholar and ResearchGate offer many metrics useful for research, the researcher and the department evaluation. Metrics calculated by RG are more insightful and allow for an in-depth analysis of achievements and the impact, while GS metrics are calculated not only in total but also for the last five years; therefore, they may be particularly useful to monitor recent scientific achievements and progress. The comparative analysis also showed that values of comparable Google Scholar metrics are higher than RG indicators and present business researchers in a better light.
Za pomocą mediów społecznościowych można nawiązywać i utrzymywać nie tylko prywatne, lecz także profesjonalne kontakty. Specjalistyczne platformy społecznościowe, takie jak ResearchGate (RG) lub Google Scholar (GS), mogą integrować naukowców o podobnych zainteresowaniach, karierze edukacyjnej lub doświadczeniu zawodowym. Narzędzia i wskaźniki oferowane przez te platformy są wykorzystywane zarówno w celu uzyskania dostępu do aktualnych badań, szybkiej komunikacji, jak i do budowania globalnych sieci badawczych, tworzenia cyfrowego portfolio lub oceny/porównywania osiągnięć naukowych. Celem artykułu jest zbadanie czy platformy ResearchGate i Google Scholar są popularne wśród polskich badaczy biznesowych oraz wskazanie różnic między wartościami metryk dostarczonych przez RG i GS. Autor analizuje wartości wskaźników dostarczanych przez platformy i ich przydatność w procesie oceny dorobku naukowego czy realizowanych badań. Artykuł przedstawia charakterystykę wskaźników publikowanych przez ResearchGate i Google Scholar, autor porównuje wartości trzech bezpośrednio porównywalnych wskaźników: liczby cytowań, liczby publikacji oraz indeksu h. Główną częścią artykułu jest analiza porównawcza wykorzystania Google Scholar i ResearchGate przez naukowców z wybranych polskich uczelni ekonomicznych. Prezentowane analizy bazują na danych dotyczących 364 badaczy z trzech uczelni ekonomicznych (najlepszej, średniej i najmniej prestiżowej – według rankingów edukacyjnych). Przeprowadzony przegląd literatury, doświadczenia autora oraz analiza porównawcza wskazują, że wyspecjalizowane sieci społecznościowe są bardzo pomocne i łatwe w użyciu, jednak rzadko używane przez polskich badaczy biznesu i ekonomii. Zarówno Google Scholar, jak i ResearchGate oferują wiele wskaźników przydatnych w procesie oceny naukowców oraz ośrodków naukowych. Dane prezentowane przez RG są bardziej szczegółowe i pozwalają na bardziej dogłębną analizę osiągnięć, podczas gdy wskaźniki publikowane na platformie GS liczone są także za ostatnie pięć lat, dlatego mogą być szczególnie przydatne do monitorowania dynamiki rozwoju naukowego i postępów pracownika. Analiza porównawcza wykazała również, że platforma Google Scholar publikuje wyższe wartości porównywalnych metryk niż RG i prezentuje badaczy w lepszym świetle.
