Injuries are much more often incurred by those who practice sports recreationally, which is probably caused by the lack of proper physical fitness and violation of the safety rules, as well as by the fact that mass sports attract much more people. The majority of dangerous, injury-prone situations in skiing are also generated by technical errors, lack of proper coordination, poorly fitted or faulty equipment. Although an accident is defined as a series of causes and circumstances that are difficult to anticipate, a considerable reduction of the number of sports accidents involving the locomotor system while skiing is possible, e.g. by promoting safety rules and analysing accidents that happen on the slopes. The characteristics of skiers' safety and injury rate have been developed by way of analysing skiing accidents that required rescue team interventions. The analysis comprised 90 skiers from the Kasprowy Wierch; 42 women (46%) and 48 men (54%) who were involved in skiing accidents in the 2008-2009 season, on the basis of accident sheets from the 2008-2009 season routinely delivered to the TOPR (Tatra Volunteer Search and Rescue) stations, which were made available to us.

Based on the results of author’s research it was stated that significant differences between heat release rates measured according to ISO 5660-1 and FTP Code Part 5 (Res. A. 653 (16)) are not caused by measurement uncertainties. A basic factor determining the lack of correlation is treating the heat release rate in the category of static measurements in the normalized measurement methods. Taking into account dynamic parameters of the test station allowed the coincidence rate (reproducibility and correlation) of the results of heat release rates measured using different methods to be improved, without changing test stations and procedures. Author’s research performed on 42 materials has revealed that the relative dynamic errors of the heat release rate measurements are significant (2%÷120%). The average value of these changes for the tested group of materials was equal to 39%.

The paper deals with the issue of occupational health and safety in a metalworking manufacturing organization. Hazard and threat have been defined when cutting metal materials with a band saw. We assessed the risk by an extended point method, where we determined the risk rate values. In most cases of sawmill work, we found a “moderate” or “negligible” risk. The highest, ‘serious’ risk we found in a possible electric shock. In this case, we have also taken the necessary actions. As a precaution, we have also proposed safety measures for other threats.

The paper presents several issues concerned with safety of inland ships navigation in Szczecin Port area. Additionally the analysis of inland ships movement has been performed which is necessary to full picture of safety analysis. Opis:
The area of the roadway covered with petroleum-derived substance is characterized by lowering the grip of tyres of the vehicle to the roadway. In realistic conditions of the road traffic that kind of obstacles are with difficulty noticeable for the driver and sedatenesses constitute the element of surprise which in combination with violent lowering the rate of the adhesion usually results in loss directional of vehicle. The vehicle which fell into the unchecked skid, in particular on the curve of the road is posing a threat to drivers driving up from the opposite direction on account of random migration of such a vehicle to their traffic lane. Driving vehicles on the roadway this way polluted also have limited possibilities of taking defensive action in order to avoid confronting. For the evaluation of the bearing of drivers in understanding violating by them safety rules in the road traffic on the roadway polluted with vehicles with substances mentioned above applying the rate of the adhesion which is appropriate in calculations and simulations is significant to the analysed road situation. In the article so a problem of the selection of this rate was taken relating to the case study of an existing road accident consisting in inducing collision of two vehicles moving along an asphalt wet roadway polluted with petroleum-derived substance - with diesel.

Introduction and aim: The paper presents the problem of accident rate at work with taking into consideration the particular safety at electrical equipment. They point out, that the main cause of accidents at work is the human being. On the grounds of examples they present the manner of shaping the safe behaviours of employees at the operation of electrical equipment. Material and methods: The material is selected issues from the literature. The method of theoretical analysis has been shown in the paper. Results: In the paper was defined, that about 85% of all accidents are a result of human errors, of which 85% constitute a violation of safety rules, and the remaining 15% are a result of errors committed on account of inattention, forgetfulness or ignorance. Therefore a prophylactic success to a considerable extent depends on an efficient influencing the motivation to a safe conduct at the operation of electrical equipment. Conclusion: The problematique of training Polish electricians within the scope of work safety in relation to the process of changes, which take place on the educational market and labour market, is entangled in a chain of diversified personality, social, and material-technical factors. The consequence of the changing attitudes is an improvement of the conditions of work and reduction of the frequency of adopting dangerous conducts.
Wstęp i cele: W artykule przedstawiono problem wypadkowości w pracy w szczególności z uwzględnieniem bezpieczeństwa w urządzeniach elektrycznych. Zwrócono uwagę, że główną przyczyną wypadków przy pracy jest człowiek. Na podstawie przykładów zilustrowano sposób kształtowania bezpiecznych zachowań pracowników w pracy urządzeń elektrycznych. Materiał i metody: Materiałem są wybrane zagadnienia z literatury przedmiotu. Zastosowano metodę analizy teoretycznej. Wyniki: W pracy określono, iż około 85% wszystkich wypadków są wynikiem błędów ludzkich, z czego 85% stanowią naruszenie zasad bezpieczeństwa, a pozostałe 15% są wynikiem błędów popełnionych z powodu nieuwagi, zapomnienia i niewiedzy. Dlatego też profilaktyczne sukces w znacznym stopniu zależy od skutecznego wpływu na motywację do bezpiecznego prowadzenia w pracy urządzeń elektrycznych. Wniosek: Problematyka treningu elektryków polskich w zakresie bezpieczeństwa pracy w odniesieniu do procesu zmian, które odbywają się na rynku edukacyjnym i rynku pracy, jest zaplątana w sieć zróżnicowanej osobowości, społeczne i techniczne czynniki materialne. Konsekwencją zmieniających się postaw jest poprawa warunków pracy i zmniejszenie częstotliwości przyjmowania niebezpiecznych przepustek.

Road safety modelling on regional level of NUTS 2 in the EU is the complex issue ant authors of this article indicate this in previous publications. During multivariate models development they discovered that it is difficult to make regression model well described all regions, even if they are from one country. In the first step Poisson model of road fatality rate as fatalities per 100 thou of citizens was prepared. In this article was presented the fuzzy regression approach to estimate lover and upper bounds of the modeled value.

The paper presents the proposals of extension of the periodic tests of the selected ESP system sensors: angular velocity sensor and lateral acceleration sensor using a universal diagnostics tester and a plate stand (a wheel play detector unit). The idea of this approach is to evaluate the signals from the above sensors in terms of their amplitude and frequency in the case of known forcing at the plate stand. Knowledge of the amplitude and frequency of the plates excitation and the model of tested vehicle allows for predicting the response of vehicle. On this way the verification of sensors indications is possible. This article presents the flat model of a vehicle placed on the plate stand, simulation tests and the results of its validation for three different vehicles. The results of the investigation show that the wheelbase of vehicle has a significant impact on the steady-state vibration amplitude. This conclusion is important in the practical application of this method to test the vehicle yaw rate sensor in the ESP system.

Road transportation is playing an important role in almost all freight movements and contributes to the economy. It has the highest share in the modal division of transported goods. This situation is not about to change in the coming years. Therefore, it is necessary to change the current situation and modify rules and regulations, which could lead to a decrease in the number of accidents in either the EU or the USA. This paper identifies and compares different safety measures, rules and regulations governing the safety of truck transport in the EU and the USA. The number of accidents is a good safety indicator. Finally, suggestions for improvements in terms of truck drivers’ safety in the EU and the USA are proposed.

Traditional risk assessment methodologies have been thought for large enterprises and they are not easy to handle by small and medium enterprises (SMEs): that can hardly assign resources to safety analysis. However, occupational health and safety is even more important in SMEs since their core competencies are based on skilled manpower. Attempting to solve this problem, a new methodological approach was developed: RATE (Risk Analysis by Threshold Evaluation) is a “bottom up” method which allows safety analysts to follow a standard path, not much time-spending due to a semi-probabilistic approach and enabling identification of hidden risks. RATE perspective is centred on recognising risks for workers rather than machine ways of failure. It is aimed to help entrepreneurs to assess the capacity of their system to reach a desired safety level and to what extent safety measures can improve safety performance.

Opis:
The usage, repair and maintenance of machines is one of the areas in which it still records a significant number of accident events. The occurrence of accidents at work generates social and economic costs for the enterprise. Therefore, employers should be take measures to improve safety at the workplace. The publication presents an accident analysis based on a comparison of the following measures: accident rates (i.e. number of accidents, event effects) and ratio analysis (frequency rate indicator and total accident rate indicator). Calculated indicators allowed to determine the accident rate during the usage, repair and maintenance of machines. The analysis covered a five-year period - i.e. 2013-2017. On the basis of the analyzes carried out, the proposal was presented of possible prevention solutions to reduce the number of accidents at work.

The article presents an analysis's attempt of the emotional and physiological state of the driver while driving a vehicle. This approach takes into account the correlation of biomedical parameters with the fuzzy classification of facial expression. Based on the results of the experiment, carried out in the real road conditions, driver's emotional states were determined and identified and then combined with the easily measurable indicators of cardiovascular system.

The paper is concerned with the issue of safety and risks in transport with a detailed focus on rail transport. Nowadays, when it is required to prefer safe and environmentally friendly modes of transport, the knowledge of this issue is important. Part of the paper is an analysis of individual risk factors in railway transport. These include risks in the field of railway safety, natural disasters, economic risks, risks in management systems and technical equipment, and risks related to legislative changes. Attention is paid to comparison and evaluation of individual risk factors in terms of severity and probability of occurrence - frequency. Following the analysis and evaluation of the risk level, are suggest possible or optimal ways to resolve them. The outcome of it is to eliminate or minimize them in the railway transport undertaking. The final part briefly describes the current situation in rail transport, recent develop-ments and the main conditions and assumptions for its further development.

„Improvement of safety and working conditions” programme is a main instrument to accomplish EU Strategy in order to improve the Occupational Health and Safety conditions in Poland, of which the constitutive objective was to decrease the general accidents at work frequency rate by 25% per 100 000 professionally active people in years 2007-2012. The article showed primary premises of the „Improvement of safety and working conditions” programme and throughout the analysis of evolution of general accidents at work rate and number of accidents which occured in the sectors of Polish economy in years 2007-2012 was the level of accomplishment of the objective that had been established by EU27.
Program „Poprawy bezpieczeństwa i warunków pracy” jest głównym narzędziem realizacji przyjętej Strategii UE w zakresie poprawy stanu bhp w Polsce, której konsty¬tutywnym celem było zmniejszenie ogólnego wskaźnika częstości wypadków przy pracy o 25% na 100 000 osób aktywnych zawodowo w latach 2007-2012. W artykule przedstawiono podstawowe założenia Programu „Poprawy bezpie-czeństwa i warunków pracy” oraz poprzez analizę kształtowania się wskaźnika częstości wypadków przy pracy ogółem i ilości zaistniałych wypadków w sektorach polskiej gospodarki w latach 2007-2012 określono poziom realizacji założonego celu UE27.
