    Opis:
    In this paper is proposed concept of an information model for development of smart villages in the Republic of Croatia in Slavonia region. An insight into the existing supply of structured knowledge and broadcasting of important information in areas relevant to ‘smart villages’ shows that there are hundreds of information emitters that provide information for use in development of local ‘smart village’ projects. Therefore, this project proposes: (a) introduction of a specific institution (mini consortium of several villages) implementation unit, which will identify information needs for the thematic group of belonging villages, and accordingly (b) construction of an appropriate information system. Based on the results of these analyses, the concept of the „Alberta Information System for the Development of Smart Villages”, for Osijek Baranja County is proposed.

    Agricultural extension and advisory services in Africa have significant impact on food security as well as economic and social development. Recent moves towards a pluralistic delivery system, facilitated by the emergence of private-sector led initiatives in many countries are the subject of policy and academic discourse. This study used an adapted, fit-for-purpose market systems development framework to review available research in extension and advisory services in selected sub-Sahara Africa countries. Using a literature survey methodology, we report evidence of multiple actors in extension delivery, findings that point towards evolution towards mixed delivery as well as objectives. While there are significant uptake of cost-recovery approaches among commercially-oriented farmers, many smallholder farmers still depended on donor-funded services. Our review adds to existing knowledge through incorporating a market systems development framework, which extends the often-used willingness to pay approach, and highlights the need for merger of both public and private-sector objectives to achieve developmental outcomes.

    Introduction and objective. Measuring the level of patient satisfaction is a useful tool in delivering quality care that is responsive to consumer preferences. Various socio-demographic factors might be considered as potential predictors of patient satisfaction. The aim of the study was to assess whether place of residence (rural/urban) affects patient satisfaction with hospital health care. Materials and method. Data were obtained using face-to-face questionnaire, administered in five large, urban hospitals in Podlaskie Province, north-eastern Poland, during 2014–2018. The study sample comprised of 1,624 participants (585 rural, 1039 urban) who assessed satisfaction with 28 hospital health care items. The means and standard deviations were presented to compare 28 satisfaction items between the rural and the urban samples. Regression analysis was used to determine whether location difference (rural vs urban) affected patient satisfaction with various domains of hospital health care. Results. The mean results of 28 satisfaction items on the 1–5 scale were similar among the rural and the urban samples, and generally skewed towards positive experiences. In the univariate analysis, significant associations between place of residence and patient satisfaction were identified with regard to three components of inpatient care: 1) hospital settings and staff care, 2) doctors’ professional skills, and 3) hospitalization outcomes. After adjusting for socio-demographic variables, the association remained significant only with respect to satisfaction with hospitalization outcomes (b = 0.121; SE = 0.055; p = 0.028). Conclusions. Some evidence for differences in patient satisfaction by place of residence was found. Study findings may be helpful in implementing care quality improvement programmes.

    W obecnych czasach systemy informacji przestrzennej są częścią rozwijającej się społeczności lokalnej. Systemy te pogłębiają relacje pomiędzy instytucjami prowadzącymi publiczne rejestry informacji o nieruchomościach. Tworzenie systemów informacji przestrzennej i korzystanie z nich sprzyja – co potwierdzają aktualne badania – powstawaniu innowacyjnych aktywności zarówno na terenach zurbanizowanych, jak i wiejskich. Systemy te służą nie tylko do kolekcjonowania danych o przestrzeni w jednym miejscu, ale także ich rozpowszechniania za pomocą internetowych serwisów mapowych. W artykule zaprezentowano dobre praktyki w tworzeniu lokalnych internetowych serwisów mapowych z wykorzystaniem danych przestrzennych w gminach wiejskich. Autorki skupiły się na przedstawieniu szans i możliwości wykorzystania tych serwisów.
    Nowadays Land Information System (LIS) is the part of a developing society. These systems build relationships between the institutions. The use of land information systems affects the innovative capacity in both urban and rural areas. They can be also used in creating web mapping services for different levels of country division. This paper presents practices in the establishment of the local web mapping services using LIS data in rural communes. It also presents opportunities and directions for use of the Land Information Systems.

    Borderland communities hold a strategic position in many countries. However, in spite of this, many of these communities, specifically in Nigeria, are still characterized by neglect and underdevelopment. Based on the above fact, this study explores the service deprivation and coping strategies of rural borderland communities in South-Western Nigeria. The study revealed that the majority of inhabitants of rural borderland (64.0%) get their water supply straight from streams and are bound to cover distances of 500 meters or longer to collect water. Similarly, the majority of them defecate in bush reserves around their houses. Also, the study showed that people can travel across the national border to neighboring countries on a regular basis to access basic services, like healthcare facilities. Likewise, medical personnel or attendants from neighboring countries or towns are called during critical or serious illness to render services which the Nigerian Government does not provide. The development of Nigeria’s frontier areas is therefore of paramount importance and really pending, and must be made priority in urgent and major developmental actions taken in the country.
    Społeczności przygraniczne odgrywają strategiczną rolę w wielu krajach. Jednakże, pomimo tego faktu, wciąż aktualną, charakterystyczną cechą wielu z takich społeczności, szczególnie w Nigerii, jest zaniedbanie i niedorozwój. W oparciu o powyższy fakt zbadano poziom niedoboru usług i strategie radzenia sobie z nim przez społeczności przygraniczne w południowo-zachodniej Nigerii. Badanie wykazało, że większość mieszkańców obszarów wiejskich pogranicza (64,0%) zaopatruje się w wodę prosto ze strumieni i jest zmuszona do pokonania odległości 500 metrów lub więcej w celu zebrania wody. Podobnie większość z nich nie korzysta z toalet, lecz krzewów wokół swoich domów. Badanie pokazało również, że ludzie mogą regularnie przekraczać granice sąsiednich krajów, aby uzyskać dostęp do podstawowych usług, takich jak placówki opieki zdrowotnej. Jednocześnie, personel medyczny lub stażyści z sąsiednich krajów lub miast są wzywani w sytuacjach krytycznych lub poważnej chorobie, aby świadczyć usługi, których nie zapewnia rząd Nigerii. Rozwój obszarów przygranicznych Nigerii ma zatem ogromne znaczenie i musi stać się priorytetem w działaniach rozwojowych podjętych w tym kraju.
