Opis:
Soft tissue defects of the lower extremity pose an important surgical challenge, often because of inviability of primary covering. Therapeutic modalities of choice comprise of local perforator flaps, as well as of free flaps created with the use of microsurgical skills. However, these methods cannot be applied in patients with important comorbidities, and it is in such cases where the reverse sural flap proves to be the best solution. The aim of the study was to present the results of treating lower extremity defects with various modifications of the reverse sural flap. Material and methods. Sixteen patients, males aged 17-56 years, were operated on from 2007 to 2013. Diabetes with multiple complications, disseminated atheromatosis, and extensive soft tissue trauma involving the arteries crucial for microsurgica anastomoses were the most common reason disqualifying from the free and perforator-based flap techniques. Results. All of the patients achieved very good results; in two cases distal and marginal flap necrosis was observed which, once exiced, covered with granulation, and was successfully covered with a partialthickness skin graft. Conclusions. The reverse sural flap, technically easy, offers a viable, low-risk alternative to free and perforator-based flaps.

Opis:
Shape optimization on mufflers within a limited space volume is essential for industry, where the equipment layout is occasionally tight and the available space for a muffler is limited for maintenance and operation purposes. To proficiently enhance the acoustical performance within a constrained space, the selection of an appropriate acoustical mechanism and optimizer becomes crucial. A multi-chamber side muffler hybridized with reverse-flow ducts which can visibly increase the acoustical performance is rarely addressed; therefore, the main purpose of this paper is to numerically analyze and maximize the acoustical performance of this muffler within a limited space. In this paper, the four-pole system matrix for evaluating the acoustic performance – sound transmission loss (STL) – is derived by using a decoupled numerical method. Moreover, a simulated annealing (SA) algorithm, a robust scheme in searching for the global optimum by imitating the softening process of metal, has been used during the optimization process. Before dealing with a broadband noise, the STL’s maximization with respect to a one-tone noise is introduced for the reliability check on the SA method. Moreover, the accuracy check of the mathematical models with respect to various acoustical elements is performed. The optimal result in eliminating broadband noise reveals that the multi-chamber muffler with reverse-flow perforated ducts is excellent for noise reduction. Consequently, the approach used for the optimal design of the noise elimination proposed in this study is easy and effective.

Opis:
The modern design process is based on multi-criteria optimization methods. They require at the initial stage collecting a maximum amount of reliable information. In the case of centrifugal compressor would be desirable to obtain specified performance maps in the form of a digital array. High-resolution arrays are suitable to interpolate values between their nodes. Access to digital resources is often limited, because they are an intellectual property of the certain companies. As a temporary replacement is possible, the use of the characteristics published as illustrative or design characteristics published from solutions of the previous generations. Presented article takes the issue of adapting simplified compressor characteristics to the requirements of PMDO (preliminary multidisciplinary optimization) process. Selected characteristics due to the low density of the contour lines on the map field was not suitable for direct conversion into digital form Presented map was reconstructed by the method of approximation using a polynomials of nth degree. Reverse engineered map generates correct values at compressor contour map nodes. Chosen method is characterized by low demands in terms of computational power requirements, which makes it suitable to use also in embedded microprocessor control systems. Main advantage of presented method is allowed to create a working replacement of digital map that can be used until time when inputs will be complemented by experimental data.

Opis:
This work presents selected results of I-31T propulsion flight tests, obtained in the framework of ESPOSA (Efficient Systems and Propulsion for Small Aircraft) project. I-31T test platform was equipped with TP100, a 180 kW turboprop engine. Engine installation design include reverse flow inlet and separator, controlled from the cockpit, that limited ingestion of solid particulates during ground operations. The flight tests verified proper air feed to the engine with the separator turned on and off. The carried out investigation of the intake system excluded possibility of hazardous engine operation, such as compressor stall, surge or flameout and potential airflow disturbance causing damaging vibration of the engine body. Finally, we present evaluation of total power losses associated with engine integration with the airframe.
Praca zawiera wybrane wyniki badań w locie zespołu napędowego samolotu I-31T, które uzyskano podczas realizacji europejskiego projektu badawczego ESPOSA (Efficient Systems and Propulsion for Small Aircraft).
