    In Polish industry, especially in the iron and steel industry, uses large amounts of refractory materials. Waste materials are disposed of through a common storage. For altemative methods of waste management of refractory materials, it is necessary to carry out several studies. One of the basie research include determine the chemical composition of refractory materials exposed to liąuid steel. This paper presents the results of microscopic examination of changes in the concentration of refractory elements in new and used.
    W polskim przemyśle, zwłaszcza w hutnictwie żelaza i stali, wykorzystuje się duże ilości materiałów ogniotrwałych. Zużyte materiały są bardzo często unieszkodliwiane przez składowanie. Zastosowanie innych metod zagospodarowania odpadowych materiałów ogniotrwałych wiążę się z koniecznością przeprowadzenia wielu badań. Jednym z podstawowych badań jest m.in. określenie zmiany składu chemicznego materiałów ogniotrwałych narażonych na kontakt z ciekłą stalą. W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań mikroskopowych dotyczących zmiany stężenia pierwiastków w materiałach ogniotrwałych nowych i zużytych

    Opis:
    In the last few decades there have been significant changes in single-family housing in rural areas. More and more new buildings are being built, many are being renovated or thermomodernized. This activity generates a number of waste that, if not managed properly, can have a negative impact on the natural environment. This article analyses ways of waste management generated during the erection of new buildings, renovations and reconstruction. The aim of the research presented in the study was to identify trends in the manner of construction waste management in the last thirty years in rural areas of the Czestochowa district. The substantive basis for the research were CAWI (Computer Assisted Web Interview) surveys carried out among investors and contractors of construction works in the analysed area. On their basis, indicators illustrating changes in the manner of management individual types of waste were estimated. It was found that positive changes occurred in this area during the analysed period. Primarily, the scale of activities having a clearly negative impact on the environment and the safety of life of residents decreased significantly. Processes such as uncontrolled burning or burying waste in the ground have been reduced from over 40% to around 13.5%. The reason for these positive trends is primarily the increasing ecological awareness of rural residents, high fines for the illegal removal of waste, as well as in the case of waste other than construction, the obligation to have waste containers. Currently, positive environmental activities such as selective waste collection and transfer to specialized companies increased from around 2.5% to over 50%.

    In an attempt to reduce waste originating from end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) which is becoming a serious environmental problem, the European Union enforced in 2000 the End-of-Life Vehicles Directive 2000/53/EC. Each European member state has to comply with the achievement of the following recycling and recovery targets: 80% and 85% by 2006 and increasing to 85% and 95%, respectively, by 2015. The required and achieved recovery and recycling targets for ELVs in Poland in 2011 have been discussed and compared. The data shows that the achieved targets of recovery and recycling were about 82% and 80%, respectively. Therefore, the barrier factors affecting management of ELVs have been identified and the route useful to comply ELVs recovery and recycling in Poland and for other developing countries has been presented. The experience shows that this goal could be achieved by energy recovery and materials recycling of automotive shredder residue.

    Opis:
    The paper reviews ideas of EU Framework Programmes and offers information about Polski Rejestr Statków S.A. (PRS) participation in EU projects. The paper reviews the background to the adoption of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Assembly Resolution A.981(24) on the development of a mandatory instrument for minimising environmental and safety risks from ship recycling and shows the roles of the International Maritime Organisation, International Labour Organisation and the Basel Convention on ship recycling matters. The paper introduces the development of inventories of hazardous materials for new and existing ships, the surveying regime to be established under the new Convention, how the Convention will deal with the issue of the decontamination of ships with hazardous materials, the envisaged inclusion of domestic ships, the provisions for reporting to competent authorities and the related issue of prior informed consent.
    W referacie omówiono udział Polskiego Rejestru Statków w Programach ramowych UE, dążących m.in. do powstania nowoczesnej polityki proekologicznego recyklingu statków w Europie i na świecie. Referat opisuje podstawy przyjęcia przez Międzynarodową Organizację Morską (IMO) rezolucji stanowiącej o konieczności powstania konwencji zajmującej się zminimalizowaniem ryzyka ekologicznego i bezpieczeństwa podczas recyklingu statków. Opisano prace IMO, która aktualnie we współpracy z Międzynarodową Organizacją Pracy i Państwami będącymi Stronami Konwencji Bazylejskiej tworzy projekt ww. konwencji. W referacie opisano podstawy tej konwencji, a także podkreślono konieczność powstawania statkowych inwentarzy materiałów niebezpiecznych użytych do budowy i wyposażenia statków oraz związanych z ich eksploatacją, jako narzędzia będącego informacyjną bazą materiałową dla ekologicznego i bezpiecznego recyklingu statków po zakończeniu ich eksploatacji.

    Opis:
    About 4 million Mg of construction waste is produced in Poland annually. According to the record of a “new” Directive (Directive of the European Parliament and the Council 2008/98/EC of 19 November 2008 on waste and repealing certain directives), preparation to reuse, recycle and other methods of recovery for construction and demolition waste should be increased to the minimum weight of 70% until 2020. In sustainable construction it is preferable to use the products which, after the usage period, can be subject to disposal with a special emphasis on recycling which, in addition to environmental benefits, generates tangible economic benefits. Recycling of building materials is also an important source of raw materials used as the surface foundation for the production of other construction materials or road works. Cellular concrete is nowadays considered to be a “natural” or “environmentally friendly” material. The article discusses the housing sector altogether with the market of construction materials as well as presents the characteristics of cellular concrete - an ecological construction material.
