Opis:
A new model for water treatment and waste disposal reactors was developed. The startpoint to this model is a "triangular" approximation in the shape of the real flow-through curve. This approximation is defined by some characteristic points of time, which are strongly related to the characteristic velocities of wastewater. Combination of this simplified function with the kinetic equation of the reaction of the 1st order yields the sequence of the governing equations. Three practical examples show that the proposed "rational" model gives much better results than the traditional plug-flow model.

It is discussed the using of dynamic programming method to optimize the parameters of the cascade of ideal mixing reactors, which is held isothermal first order reaction. It is found, that the minimum volume of the cascade of reactors corresponds to the minimum residence time of substance in this cascade. The optimum value of residence time for all reactors are equal and all ratio of input and output concentrations are equal, hence, and all volumes of reactors are also equal. A total volume of the cascade of reactors is less than the amount single. Application of the method of dynamic programming is illustrated with an example of the calculation of the polymerization in a cascade of four reactors according to the literature experimental data.

The process of fast pyrolysis using biomass to produce bio-oil or pyrolysis oil for application as an energy source and a chemical feedstock is of interest in this study. The literature on biomass fast pyrolysis is surveyed here and how parameter such as feed rate, temperature, rate of heating, and residence time affects the process. Investigation for this work includes the pyrolysis of sawdust and bagasse through fast pyrolysis in an auger reactor. Temperatures between 350 C and 450 C have been applied to characterize the yields and reactor problem has been identified. This work reports the problems faced with the twin screw reactor, troubleshooting which will result in bio-oil, one of the main products of fast pyrolysis. System produced solid biofuel or bio-char much of which is in the research phase as a climate change mitigation tool. Further use of professional CAD software to model and optimize the system has also been covered. Based on which suitable design changes are also developed to overcome the problems. Analysis of feed material and the solid biofuel is covered in this work as well. Pyrolysis experiments can be done using a wide range of biomass feeds. But not much of it has been studied in twin screw reactors. This scant knowledge over the study of such alternative fuel has been the reason to look into this activity.

In this paper, new static VAR compensators SVCs schemes for inductive and capacitive reactive power are developed. The provided schemes improve the flexibility and power system quality of SVCs by developing new circuit topologies with new control strategy of the reactive power. New circuit schemes are introduced for thyristors switched reactors TSR and thyristors switched capacitors TSC to design harmonic-free SVC with higher discrete number of reactive power levels. This paper provides the control algorithm and block diagram of the new SVCs schemes. The switching strategies of TSR and TSC are described and implemented. The new scheme of TSC requires special modifications to decrease transient effects and implementation of specific switching strategies to acquire SVC with high power quality indexes.

Opis:
The article contains the results of the simulation tests of oxidizing catalytic reactor obtained by use of the AVL Boost simulation application. The chemical reactions and the reactions rates on which computations were based are specified in this paper. The simulations were related to the influence of the catalytic reactor volume and reactor’s cells quantity influence on the carbon oxide, hydrocarbons and nitric oxides conversion levels. The influence on the nitric oxides conversion was presented in this paper as the content of NO and NO2 in NOX. The simulated computations were performed separately for the variable reactor volume ranging from 1 to 2.2 dm3 with a step of 0.4 dm3 and for the variable reactor cells quantity ranging from 200 to 600 cells per square inch with a step of 100 cpsi. As the input data for the simulation computations the actual values of the toxic compounds concentrations in the exhaust gases at the outlet of the Diesel engine were used. The measurements of the toxic compounnds were made at the chosen engine steady state work points and are presented in this paper as a graph of the toxic gases concentrations in the form of the function of the engine torque. The simulation computaitons were performed for the same points and their results are also presented in the form of the function of the engine torque. The Results presented in this paper have shown that the increase in the CO, HC and NOX conversion in the case of the oxide catalyst can be obtained both by increasing the reactor volume and its cells quantity. It also have been observed that the increase in the reactor cells quantity and volume is not proportional as regards the toxic gases conversion increase and lowers in the case of higher values of the simulated reactor parameters.

Opis:
The corrosion products are among the leading sources of radiation in primary coolant circuits of pressurized water reactors leading to prolongation of reactor down-time for routine maintenance entailing substantial loss of revenues. These deposits affect adversely coolant flow rates resulting in elevation of fuel and cladding temperature and become activated by high neutron flux in reactor core consequently creating high radiation field by accumulating in the out-of-core reactor components. In the case of light water reactors (LWRs), prevailing corrosion products include 59Fe, 99Mo, 56Mn, 58Co, and 60Co. The 56Mn is the leading corrosion product activity source during operation while cobalt isotopes dominate the activity after reactor shutdown. This paper presents a detailed discussion on some computer codes developed for prediction and transport of corrosion product activity in LWRs.

The polyphosphoric acids (PPA) were synthesized in a cascade reactors system from P2O5  obtained from the burning of Kazakh phosphorus. Presented system provides guidelines for the PPA production process using phosphoric acids only at concentrations above 100% (in conversion to H3PO4 ). Polyphosphoric acids are processed in a cascade reactors system, where the in 1st  concentration of PPA is increased by addition of P2O5, while in the 2nd reactor PPA is diluted with the use of 85% phosphoric acid. Produced PPA can be obtained in the 100–118% range and is characterized by high chemical purity due to the reduction of the corrosivity of the reaction, which results in very low content of iron (below 2 ppm Fe).

The paper contains the results of the tests of the oxide, platinum and combined oxide-platinum catalytic reactor model used in the NH3-SCR system. As regards the combined oxide-platinum catalyst the first reactor block was extracted from the oxide catalyst used in trucks. As the second module of the reactor a block with platinum acting as a catalyst was used with 2.5g/dm3 platinum load. The only differences between the combined reactor system and the single platinum and oxide catalysts were connected with the reactors volume which in the case of the single reactors was two times higher than the volume of the corresponding blocks of the combined system. During the tests the ammonia concentration in the engine exhaust gases at the inlet of the reactors was set to 400 ppm. The article contains the results of the physical and chemical active surface structure tests of the reactors with their active surface chemical microanalysis and its topographic pictures performed and taken with the Scanning Electron Microscope. The results obtained from the tests of the influence of the reactor type on the NOX and NO conversion and the content of NO2 in NOX are presented in this article in the form of the function of their operating temperature. Additionally, the results of measured ammonia slip at the outlet of the reactors are presented. The obtained results have shown that the usage of the combined oxide-platinum reactor allows for widening the SCR system effective operating temperature range with a low ammonia slip at its outlet. This was achieved by use of the platinum reactor block which features a high nitric oxides conversion efficiency at the operating temperatures which are lower than those of the oxide catalyst and which can also provide the high ammonia spices conversion rangeto lower the ammonia slip at system outlet.

Additionally, the results of the measured ammonia slip at the outlet of the combined reactor were presented. The obtained results have shown that the increase in ammonia dose at the inlet of the system increases the nitric oxides conversion with the minimum influence on the ammonia slip. By using the platinum based catalyst block it was possible to widen the whole reactor system effective operating temperature due to the high nitric oxides conversion efficiency of the platinum block achieved at low operating temperatures. A low ammonia slip at the outlet of the combined catalytic reactor was obtained by use of the platinum reactor block whose properties allow for the high ammonia conversion.

The presented system makes it possible to reduce, especially in distribution supply networks, undesired higher current harmonics. The 18-pulse nature of operation of the rectifier is reached using a set of coupled three-phase network reactors (CDT and CTR). The simultaneous use of the coupled reactors and the small active power filter provides opportunities for reduction of the supply current distortion, especially in case of voltage harmonic distortion and voltage unbalance.
