Opis:
Paper presents statistical evaluation of accuracy of levelling network measured in Poland in years 1999-2001. The analysis was done using 16 150 misclosures from the double levelling of the sections, 382 misclosures from the double levelling of the lines and 133 loops misclosures. The statistical analysis was conducted by the regression method, correlation method and the analysis of variance. It results that the measured height differences have various accuracy (analysis of variance), and that systematic errors are changing according to the value and sign. The existence of systematic errors causes that the successive neighboring sections of some levelling lines are correlated. The correlation in the majority of the lines is not statistically essential.
W pracy przedstawiono statystyczną ocenę dokładności sieci niwelacji precyzyjnej pomierzonej w Polsce w latach 1999-2001. Do analizy wykorzystano 16 150 odchyłek z podwójnej niwelacji odcinków, 382 odchyłki z podwójnej niwelacji linii oraz 133 odchyłki zamknięć poligonów. Analizę przeprowadzono metodą regresji, korelacji i metodą analizy wariancji.

Opis:
This paper presents a review of results of the author in the area of estimation of the relations of equivalence, tolerance and preference within a finite set based on multiple, independent (in a stochastic way) pairwise comparisons with random errors, in binary and multivalent forms. These estimators require weaker assumptions than those used in the literature on the subject. Estimates of the relations are obtained based on solutions to problems from discrete optimization. They allow application of both types of comparisons – binary and multivalent (this fact relates to the tolerance and preference relations). The estimates can be verified in a statistical way; in particular, it is possible to verify the type of the relation. The estimates have been applied by the author to problems regarding forecasting, financial engineering and bio-cybernetics.

Opis:
The problem of estimation of the partial order on the basis of multiple pairwise comparisons in binary and multivalent form, with random errors, is investigated. The estimators are based on the idea of the nearest adjoining order (see Slater, 1961; Klukowski 2011). Two approaches are examined: comparisons indicating the direction of preference (binary) and comparisons indicating the difference of ranks (multivalent) - both with possibility of existence of incomparable elements. The properties of estimators and the optimization problems formulated in order to obtain them are similar to those for the case of complete relation. However, the assumptions about the distributions of comparison errors are different – they comprise the case of incomparable elements.

Opis:
This paper presents two approaches to determining estimates of an equivalence relation on the basis of pairwise comparisons with random errors. Obtaining such an estimate requires the solution of a discrete programming problem which minimizes the sum of the differences between the form of the relation and the comparisons. The problem is NP hard and can be solved with the use of exact algorithms for sets of moderate size, i.e. about 50 elements. In the case of larger sets, i.e. at least 200 comparisons for each element, it is necessary to apply heuristic algorithms. The paper presents results (a statistical preprocessing), which enable us to determine the optimal or a near-optimal solution with acceptable computational cost. They include: the development of a statistical procedure producing comparisons with low probabilities of errors and a heuristic algorithm based on such comparisons. The proposed approach guarantees the applicability of such estimators for any size of set.

Opis:
The paper presents an ample account on author’s results, concerning the methods of estimating and testing of relations (equivalence, tolerance, preference) and trees on the basis of multiple pairwise comparisons with random errors, which are presented in a new book, Klukowski (2021c). The book contains also main results presented earlier in Klukowski (2011). The new content pertains mainly to: the preference relation with incomparable elements, trees and tests for verification of estimates of the relations. The estimators and tests have good statistical properties; estimators - consistency with good convergence, tests - known distributions of test statistics (exact, limiting or approximate). Some properties of estimates (precision and convergence) have been determined using the simulation approach. The results here reported gain in significance in view of the renewed interest in practical application of pairwise comparisons in various application domains, which give rise to various concrete data analysis problems.

Opis:
Research background: Even though unintentional accounting errors leading to financial restatements look like less serious distortion of publicly available information, it has been shown that financial restatements impacts on financial markets are similar to intentional fraudulent activities. Unintentional accounting errors leading to financial restatements then affect value of company shares in the short run which negatively impacts all shareholders. Purpose of the article: The aim of this manuscript is to predict unintentional accounting errors leading to financial restatements based on information from financial statements of companies. The manuscript analysis if financial statements include sufficient information which would allow detection of unintentional accounting errors. Methods: Method of classification and regression trees (decision tree) and random forest have been used in this manuscript to fulfill the aim of this manuscript. Data sample has consisted of 400 items from financial statements of 80 selected international companies. The results of developed prediction models have been compared and explained based on their accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, precision and F1 score. Statistical relationship among variables has been tested by correlation analysis. Differences between the group of companies with and without unintentional accounting error have been tested by means of Kruskal-Wallis test. Differences among the models have been tested by Levene and T-tests. Findings & value added: The results of the analysis have provided evidence that it is possible to detect unintentional accounting errors with high levels of accuracy based on financial ratios (rather than the Beneish variables) and by application of random forest method (rather than classification and regression tree method).

The analysis of the GPS multipath effects in maritime environment is constrained with the practice of traditional GPS receiver design, that prevents access to GPS signals in Base-band Processing Domain. Here we propose and validate a simple method for experimental identification of multipath effect in Navigation Processing Domain, based on spectral characterisation of time series of GPS positioning errors.
