The paper presents a summary of research on the possibility of influencing the state of residual stresses in railway rails by changing the pass design of vertical and horizontal straightener rollers and optimising their distribution on the rail perimeter. The presented results are devoted to the influence of profiled rollers on the level of residual stresses. A wide range of theoretical considerations were carried out based on the use of the finite element method using the commercial Forge software package. In order to verify the results of the theoretical considerations most reliably, a series of “in situ” experiments were conducted in industrial conditions on an existing production line. The tests were carried out on 120 meters long 60E1 railway rails. A significant reduction in the level of residual stresses compared to the standard requirements was achieved.

Opis:
On the basis of automated flaw detection of rails, the basic dependencies describing localisation and dimensions of object's inner defects traced with ultrasonic pulse-echo method have been given in the paper. The formulas for systematic errors and limiting errors estimating measurement accuracy have been determined. The investigation has been illustrated with results obtained by numerical simulation and with experimental test results acquired from flaw detection vehicle track testing. The article presents the results of the last stage of work on the impact of changes in the roll pass design on the state of residual stresses in railway rails. The discussed stage includes the summary of industrial experiments of rolling 60E1 rails with a length of 120 meters using a modified pass design of roll grooves. The rolling technology has been deeply modified, ranging from the finishing stand, through the pre-finishing stand, to the semi-finishing stand. The rails in this experiment were cooled using standard cooling technology and then straightened using innovative vertical straightener shaped rollers. Residual stresses were tested using the strain gauge method and the hole-drilling strain gauge method by drilling a hole in the rail axis and at a distance of 14 millimetres from its axis. The resulting tensile stresses in the rail foot were reduced to an average level of less than 43% in relation to the requirements of the EN13674-1 standard.

The article analyses the current traction rolling-stock used by „Lietuvos geležinkeliai“ Plc. for freight transportation. The technical data of the above mentioned rolling-stock is explored and compared, and operation costs are estimated in the article. After the assessment of the forecasts of freight flows on the constructed railway „Rail Baltica“, the algorithm for selection of freight locomotives was proposed. The efficiency of the locomotives operated on the railway is determined by three multicriteria evaluation methods: the sum of ratings, simple additive weighting, and the geometric mean method. Locomotives are valued in accordance with technical, economic and ecological parameters. The results of possible effective performance of the rolling stock have been determined by changing coefficient values of the criteria. Finally, basic conclusions are given.

This paper shows the process of braking force realization by air brakes with brake shoes accompanied by a suitable mechanical model. The complexity of adhesion nature as a physical phenomenon as well as the limited factors on which the braking force value depends are pointed out. According to this, the model of braking force realization based on the fuzzy set theory is explained. The procedure of fuzzy controller projecting with a task to regulate the value of kidding and by that the value of braking torque through the air pressure in the braking cylinder by maximizing the braking force that can be realized according to adhesion conditions is described. The testing of the optimization model under concrete adhesion conditions of the wheels on the rails is done at the end of the paper.
W artykule opisano proces generowania siły hamującej w pneumatycznych hamulcach szczękowych za pomocą odpowiedniego modelu mechanicznego. Szczególny nacisk położono na złożoność natury adhezji jako zjawiska fizycznego oraz ograniczoność czynników, od których zależy wartość siły hamującej. W tym kontekście zbudowano model oparty na logice rozmytej jako teoretyczne narzędzie do określania siły hamowania. Opisano procedurę projektowania sterownika rozmytego, którego zadaniem jest kontrola wartości poślizgu poprzez dobór momentu hamującego wynikającego z ciśnienia w zbiorniku układu pneumatycznego oraz aktualnych warunków adhezji. Na zakończenie przeprowadzono test modelu optymalizującego siłę hamowania dla konkretnych warunków adhezji pomiędzy szyną, a kołem poruszającego się po niej pojazdu.

The work presents research of defective railway wheel and rail dynamics and mathematical model of system “Railway vehicle wheel – track”. An assumption was made that the Rail R–65 and railway wheel with flats are with unevenness. The aim of this investigation is to identify the contact forces resulting from the wheel/rail contact at the various defects. Rail track dynamics is described by finite element method, while soil and wagon dynamics is described by the discrete elements. The mathematical model is to assess physical and mechanical properties, roughness of wheel and rail surface, and their geometry. In the mathematical model of the rail is evaluated: the impact of axial force, the initial deformation of rail, the foundation of soil, the gap between sleeper and rail. Profile of railway wheel is defined as a function of radius variable depending on the polar angle and described by Fourier series. In this mathematical model of railway wheel and rail contact area is divided into small sections, where the force is set in contact using the Hertz theory. Total system of non-linear equations of motion is solved by applying the Newton-Raphson method. The speed of the train is 100 km/h and static load on the rail is 100 kN. The flat of the wagon wheel is L=100 mm. Numerical results of contact problem are obtained. Duration of contact is nearly equal to period during which the wheel set passes a half of the flat length. The contact force operating the wheelset is equal to approximately 1.0 MN. Maximum value of the sleeper acceleration is equal 410 g.

Ensuring safety of railway traffic is one of the most important goals of every state. All incidents connected with security that take place in the networks of railway lines result in taking actions aimed at elimination of similar situations in the future. The elements affecting security of the railway system include: technical condition of railway infrastructure and rolling stock, applicable law, people, that is, professional qualifications and proper performance of tasks by the workers. The authors formulated the following research problem: what are the strengths of railway security, and what should be improved? The methodology of qualitative analysis was applied. The survey research on the level of security and diagnostics of causes, needs and options of improvement of security in rail transport were conducted. Broad analysis and inference were conducted. The directions of improvement of security in supervisory, technical, organizational and operational terms in railway transport were presented in this article.

Opis:
A study of the dynamic loading of the carrying structure of a tank wagon during transportation on a railway ferry was carried out. The studies were carried out with the angular displacements of the railway ferry around the longitudinal axis (lurch), as the case of the highest load on the carrying structure of the tank wagon. It was found that the acceleration total value that acts on the outermost tank wagon from the bulwark is 0.31g. The resulting value of acceleration, as a component of the dynamic load, was taken into account when calculating the strength of the carrying structure of the tank wagon, taking into account the typical scheme of interaction with chain ties. The research carried out will contribute to the creation of recommendations for the safe operation of tank wagons in international rail and water traffic and increasing the efficiency of rail transport functioning.

The continuous development of coal extraction technology in hard coal mines, including the increased efficiency of the machinery and equipment used in mining, encourages manufacturers to increase the power of these machines. This also entails an increase in their weight. Transporting these machines to their destination, especially to the face, is the task of suspended transport systems, i.e.: a suspended railway system. The proposed solution consists in welding flat bars to the flanges of the I-beam, which will increase the unit weight of the load that can be carried by each car of the transport set moving along the railway. This paper contains a technical description of the modified rail and basic strength calculations, the results of which confirm the advisability of its use.
Ciągły rozwój technologii wydobycia urobku w kopalniach węgla kamiennego, w tym zwiększanie wydajności maszyn i urządzeń stosowanych w górnictwie, stymuluje producentów tych maszyn do zwiększania ich mocy. Pociąga to za sobą również wzrost ich masy. Dostarczenie tych maszyn do miejsca przeznaczenia, szczególnie do przodka, jest zadaniem transportu podwieszonego, tj. kolejki podwieszonej. Proponowane rozwiązanie polega na tym, że do półek dwuteownika specjalnego przyspawano płaskowniki, które pozwolą na zwiększenie jednostkowej masy ładunku, możliwej do przewiezienia przez każdy z wózków jezdnych zestawu transportowego poruszającego się po trasie kolejki. Artykuł zawiera opis techniczny szyny o zmodyfikowanej konstrukcji oraz podstawowe obliczenia wytrzymałościowe, których wyniki potwierdzają celowość jej stosowania.

In this paper, we present Fourier series less approaches for determining the energy produced by discontinuous time periodic forces in the wheel-rail contacts of the railway track systems. The vehicle system model used in this study consists of a quarter car supported on a bogie, while the side frame is supported on two wheel sets. The main advantage of the presented method is the total elimination of frequency analysis, which in effect introduces important simplifications in the identification of the energetic effects in the contact. Fundamental properties of contact displacements of the rail surface have been considered on the basis of the newly established method. The contact zone between railway wheels and the rail surfaces made of bulk materials is perceived as strong enough to resist the normal (vertical) forces introduced by heavy loads and the dynamic response induced by track and wheel irregularities. The analysis is carried out for a wheel running on an elastic rail rested on sleepers arranged on completely rigid foundation. The established model of the wheel-rail contact dynamics has been applied to that same roll plane, but with taking into account a nonlinear characteristic of the sleeper with respect to the ground. Attention then is focused completely on the modelling of the energy absorbed by the rail. The applied method employs the energy state variables as time functions leading to determine the susceptibility of a given contact on the strength induced by the rail roll.
