The increase of the role of rail transport in comparison with road and air ones was an important task for transport engineering in western Europe and Japan in the 1970s. Now the problem is not completely closed but the majority of the establishments formed in the beginning were successively solved. The main assumptions could be grouped into environmental protection and sustainability, decreasing the travel time connected with accessibility, safety, comfort for passengers, considering freight transport, as well. The high speed of the moving train was the main criteria of any engineer approach i.e. from the point of view of energy safety, limiting pollution, ability to transport thousands of people and tons of cargo. High Speed Rail - (HSR) means the speed between 250 to 400 km/h. This divides tracks into two groups: ordinary tracks and special ones, which results in two possible ways: adopting existing tracks or building new railways. Recently the program of HSR has been decided to put in motion in Poland. The situation here was very complicated. Many abandons such as complete lack of road highways, backwardness in air transport as well as rail transport, which means abandons in track conditions and rolling stock. At least, actually no existing haulage transport. In those circumstances, any rational first step was to be taken i.e. a technical diagnosis and an estimation of the existing railway system including culverts and bridges as important elements of trucks. The paper presented here contains a short survey of statical and dynamical field test results and FEM analyses as an extension to the train speeds 1.2ź350 = 420 km/h.

There is a reason why it is said that stations are the business card of railroads. In the IN2STEMPO and ExtenSive projects, re-search work is looking at solutions to improve the passenger experience at stations. This article presents the scope of research carried out within the projects, including the development of more effective tools for crowd management at high-capacity stations, but also on new methods of designing stations and their elements taking into account the latest architectural trends. An important issue is also a problem still troubling the staff of many railroads, that is, improving accessibility from the plat-form to the train. Rail services, by their universality, should take account of the extensive opportunities offered by information technology. This applies to the complete process of passenger service, from purchase of a ticket to arrival at commercial out-lets and the journey itself. The article also outlines the principles of the ExtenSive project, which is a continuation of previous work aimed at developing both passenger applications and software for transport operators, which at the end of the day will enable the provision of transport services of the highest standard. This paper presents the results of the analysis so far on the eve of the projects’ completion, and identifies possible applications of the results of the work carried out.

Safety in rail transport is a problem that many countries are struggling with. Rail transport is one of the main areas of Poland’s economic development. The authors analysed and interpreted statistical data on the condition of the railway infrastructure and rail safety, as well as identified the main causes of railway accidents. The development of rail infrastructure has a significant effect on freight and passenger transport safety. Among the most serious hazards in rail traffic are accidents and rail collisions. The most frequent rail accidents occur at level crossings, where those responsible are motor car drivers. There is a clear trend showing a decrease in the number of accidents with an increase in the percentage of well-preserved rail lines. This situation is a consequence of social awareness.

This paper presents the results of experimental and numerical studies on reliability and monitoring issues of railway infrastructure in terms of safety and operation. The state of knowledge concerning methods of assessing track condition, in particular rail joints used in continuous welded rail track of railway lines is described. Experimental results of rail joints used in track transition zones and the results of numerical studies/tests of the rail vehicle-track model are outlined. It is demonstrated, basing on the analyses of the experimental results, that not only should the rail joints used in continuous welded rail track be diagnosed during their acceptance, but also during their operation. It is proven that the currently used methodology for testing welded rail joints applied during acceptance testing of contact track is not fully correct and leads to misinterpretation of the measurement results. Moreover, the results of numerical simulation tests presented in this paper confirm the possibility of diagnosing the condition of rail joints by any vehicle passing over such a track equipped with a suitable system.

Opis:
Improving knowledge on an external enterprise needs and scope of service provided are the most important assets of services provision in outsourcing. Other benefits involve constant level of income and improvement of the provided services quality resulting from experience gained and then customer loyalty, becoming familiar with the structure and technologies applied in an external enterprise and access to confidential information. Diagnosis and assessment of the partnership cooperation provides an opportunity to determine the most effective forms and methods of communication between partners and to obtain information on communication disorders and problems in the course of collaboration. Description of tasks concerning transport orders and information distribution affects the relationship between the outsourcing partners and effectiveness of the cooperation. Recognition of positive and negative aspects of cooperation will enable to eliminate in the future any errors and omissions that influence effectiveness of the partnership cooperation. The positive assessment of cooperation resulting from the provided service quality and implementation of the defined objectives presents the ability to continue the cooperation between the current partners.

Analyse of possibility of the SB3.1 investigative diesel engine modernisation is showed in this paper. The engine is the excellent tool permitting to conduct investigative work over processes of fuel mixture production, spontaneous ignition and burning in a diesel engine with direct injection. It makes possible put in the changes of compression rate, the camshaft timing angle and the fuel injection timing angle. The obsolete system of the engine feeding, equipped with row injection's pump and injector come from the SW-680 engine is his drawback. Use of injection system type Common Rail allows solution of imperfection of this engine. That system would permit to extension of the engine SB3.1 investigative possibilities on investigation of processes limiting the emission of toxic compounds in exhaust gases and especially the soot filters and the catalytic afterburners or systems of reducing of nitrogen oxides emission. The modernization of engine SB3.1 contains the change of a high pressure pump with fuel pressure over 135 mpa and electronically controlled injector. The engine has also to be equipped in number of the control and measuring devices and the control unit to control of influence of converting gathered measuring signals on a fuel dose injected to cylinder.

W artykule przedstawiono sytuację polskiego transportu kolejowego podczas pierwszej i drugiej fali pandemii COVID-19. Nakreślono zauważalne trendy wykorzystania transportu kolejowego. Przedstawiono podstawowe parametry, jak: liczba pasażerów, ilość przewiezionych towarów, wskaźniki obrazujące stan przewozów kolejowych w 2020 i 2021 roku. Do poznania zagadnień wykorzystano przegląd literatury, tj. pozycje zwarte, artykuły naukowe oraz analizę danych statystycznych z Raportów Urzędu Transportu Kolejowego.
In this article the situation of Polish rail transport during the first and second waves of the COVID-19 pandemic is presented. Noticeable trends of rail transport usage are outlined. Basic parameters such as the number of passengers, the amount of goods transported indicators depicting the state of rail transport in 2020 and 2021 are shown. To learn about the issues, a review of the literature was used, i.e. compact items, scientific articles, and an analysis of statistical data from the Reports of the Railway Transport Office.

One of the methods of joining rails is welding with termite, which guarantees a secure and stable connection of two sections of the rail without the need to use additional connecting elements and supporting the welded place. After joining (making a weld), appropriate mechanical processing of the joint is required in order to obtain the given rail head profile. The quality and diligence of the connection made has a major impact on safety, noise emission during the journey (wheel rolling) and the comfort of travelers. This article describes selected methods of making railway rail joints and presents the results of measurements with a portable laser measuring device Calipri C40 of the rail head within the welded rail joint made by thermite welding. An attempt to use this device for measurements of welded rail joints is shown, advantages and disadvantages as well as conclusions from the performed measurements are described.
Jedną z metod łączenia szyn jest spawanie termitowe, gwarantujące pewne i stabilne połączenie dwóch odcinków szyny bez konieczności stosowania dodatkowych elementów łączących oraz podpierających miejsce spawane. Po połączeniu (wykonaniu spoiny) wymagana jest odpowiednia obróbka mechaniczna złącza tak, aby uzyskać zadany profil główki szyny. Jakość i staranność wykonanego połączenia, ma zasadniczy wpływ na bezpieczeństwo, emisję hałasu podczas przejazdu (przetaczania się koła) oraz komfort podróżnych. W niniejszym artykule opisano wybrane metody wykonywania kolejowych złączy szynowych oraz przedstawiono wyniki pomiarów przenośnym laserowym urządzeniem pomiarowym Calipri C40 główki szyny w obrębie spawanego złącza szynowego wykonanego metodą spawania termitowego. Pokazano próbę zastosowania tego przyrządu przy pomiarach spawanych złączy szynowych, opisano zalety i wady oraz wnioski z zrealizowanych pomiarów.

This paper presents a methodology for modelling the movements of an electrical rail vehicle on any track. Vehicle movement is the result of the drive system of a vehicle transferring electromechanical torque generated by the electric motor onto the wheels of the vehicle, while the appropriate driving force is a result of forces resulting from contact between the wheel surface and the rail. The following applicable models were prepared: electromechanical (for electric motor connections that constitute rail vehicle drive) of the vehicle with the drive system and of the contact wheel-rail. These models were implemented in Matlab/Simulink. The presented simulation tool for rail vehicles has been used to test a variety of cases, demonstrating capabilities of the proposed method in a wide range of situations. These cases involved analysis of dynamics of the start-up of the EU07 rail vehicle in a straight line. The results obtained for the analysed rail are valuable information that makes it possible to determine both the loading of the locomotive drive system and to estimate the vehicle travelling speed.

Easy access from platforms to trains is limited by the free space between the platform edge and coach floor, named the gap. The standard definition of the gap is described together with a description of all the difficulties affecting passengers, arising from different platform heights and different passenger vehicle floor placements over the rail head. The gap is a cause of accidents. The article describes techniques which are used to reduce the gap’s infl uence on passenger safety (metro, railway), which may relate to the infrastructure, technical solutions associated with vehicles or platforms, as well as organizational solutions related with appropriate information.

The topic of the article is to present performance of interlocking table. It has to bring nearer this problem. There are many different solutions in making of project tables. In the future it should be done more clearly to make work time shorter and project cheaper. In first part of the article there is model illustrative structure of interlocking table creation along with definitions. The second part of the article shows more detailed information about train route, which is closely connected to the topic of this publication. In the next part there is suggestion of model for route realization along with elements which participate in this global system. At the end of the article there is scheme of fictitious railway station as well as variations described with the benefit of contradictious and locking tables.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development has become the global blueprint for sustainable development. Sustainable development is supposed to change functioning of societies and economies in order to minimize negative ecological effects, at the same time providing for the needs of present and future generations. Due to its functions, transport is indispensable for meeting these needs, but it also generates demand for energy resources and has a negative impact on the environment. Appropriate shaping of transport systems is, therefore, an important element of the transformation of economies towards sustainable development and thus a key task for government policy. Rail is among the most energy efficient modes of transport for freight and passengers. The aim of this article is to assess the development of rail passenger transport in European Union countries on the basis of statistical data in the context of the need to transform mobility systems in accordance with the principles of sustainable development. The analysis of the data shows that the development of rail transport is low compared to road and air transport, which raises questions about the reasons for this fact and the further measures needed.
