Opis:
The heart rate of a person is able to tell whether they are healthy. A heart-rate monitoring device is able to measure or record the heart rate of a person in real time, whether it is an electrocardiogram (ECG) or a photoplethysmogram (PPG). In this work, a microprocessor system loaded with a heart-rate monitoring algorithm is implemented. The microprocessor system is the Nios II processor system, which interfaces with an analogue-to-digital converter (ADC) and a pulse sensor. A beat-finding algorithm is used in the microprocessor system for heart rate measurement. An experiment is carried out to analyse the functionality of the microprocessor system loaded with the algorithm. The results show that the detected heart rate is in the range of the average human being’s heart rate. The signal flow within the microprocessor system is observed and analysed using SignalTap II from Quartus’ software. Based on a power analysis report, the proposed microprocessor system has a total power dissipation of around 218.26 mW.

Opis:
Results of numerical analysis of the influence of pulse shaper geometry on wave signals in the split Hopkinson pressure bar experiment are presented. Five pulse shapers, i.e. square, ring, cross, star and disk ones have been analysed. It has been assumed that the disc pulse shaper is the reference geometry to assess the remaining types of pulse shapers. The results of numerical analyses have shown that pulse shapers with shapes different than disk are highly capable of minimizing high-frequency Pochhammer-Chree oscillations and, thus, reduce dispersion of waves propagating in the bar. The greatest damping ability has been observed while using the ring pulse shaper at both low and high impact velocities of the striker.

Opis:
The results of experimental and numerical analysis of the influence of the non-axisymmetric pulse shaper position on recorded wave signals in the split Hopkinson pressure bar experiment are presented. The paper focuses attention on the problem of wave signal disturbances caused by a bending wave resulting from non-axisymmetric pulse shaper positions and, moreover, different shaper thickness, striker impact velocities and Wheatstone bridge configurations. The obtained results of analyses indicate that the effect of the non-axisymmetric pulse shaper position may be neglected if deviation from the bar axis does not exceed 20%.

Opis:
The presented work proposes a new dimming control schemes for indoor visible light communication which combines variable pulse-position modulation, colour shift keying as key schemes of IEEE 802.15.7 standard, and sub carrier-pulse-position modulation as a pulse-position modulation variant with orthogonal frequency division multiplexing. These schemes are then compared with traditional merging schemes utilizing pulse-width modulation and multiple pulse-position modulation with m-ary quadrature amplitude modulation OFDM. The proposed schemes are investigated in a typical room with a different lighting layout (i.e., distinctive and uniform lighting layout), followed by an illumination investigation to evaluate the performance of the proposed schemes, especially the enhanced achieved data rates, and to determine their limitations as reliable visible light communication systems that can satisfy both communication and illumination requirements.

Opis:
In this paper, performance analysis of free space optical (FSO) system operating in conditions of strong atmospheric turbulence over Gamma–Chi-square turbulence model, has been carried out. We have observed reception over multi-pulse pulse-position (MPPM) modulation format for the case of strong atmospheric turbulence conditions modeled with Gamma–Chi-square turbulence model and have compared it with turbulence modeling distributions such are: Gamma–Gamma distribution, K-distribution, negative exponential distribution, log–normal distribution. First, we have provided closed-form analytical expressions for average bit error rate (ABER) at the reception for each observed case and then based on them, we have obtained numerical and Monte Carlo simulation results in order to observe turbulence level impact on system performance.
