Opis:
The report presents the results of research on predictors of professional burnout syndrome among women and men working in management positions. The research included over 2000 people working in a variety of workplaces. For the analysis of content and structure of burnout syndrome, 198 people with high probability for occurence of the burnout symptoms were qualified. In the study, a Polish version of Questionnaire of Behaviour and Experiences connected with AVEM (Arbeits be zogenes Verhaltensund Erlebensmuster, Schaarschmidt, Fischer, 1997) were used. With the help of regression analysis, the key components of syndrome‘s structure were determined, with pointing to the leading signifi cance of coping with failure and defensive attitude in enforcing its symptoms. Suggestions for prevention measures against the burnout syndrome which are concentrated on strenghtening the skill of coping with failure have been presented.
W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań predyktorów syndromu wypalenia zawodowego w grupie kobiet i mężczyzn na stanowiskach kierowniczych. W badaniach uczestniczyło ponad 2000 osób pracujących w różnych zakładach pracy. Do analizy treści i struktury syndromu wypalenia zakwalifikowano 198 osób z wysokim prawdopodobieństwem wystąpienia objaw wypalenia. W badaniach zastosowano polską wersję Kwestionariusza Zachowań i Przeżyć związanych z pracą AVEM (Arbeits be zogenes Verhaltens- und Erlebensmuster, Schaarschmidt, Fischer, 1997). Przy pomocy analizy regresji ustalono kluczowe składniki struktury syndromu ze wskazaniem na wiodące znaczenie braku umiejętności radzenia sobie z porażką i przyjęcie postawy defensywnej w nasileniu jego objawów. Przedstawiono możliwości profilaktyki syndromu wypalenia zawodowego skoncentrowanej na wzmocnieniu umiejętności radzenia sobie z porażką.

The author of the article aims to present in short the results of the empirical verification of R. Kwaśnica’s concept concerning teachers’ professional development. The first part of the article deals with theoretical matters: the understanding of professional development and burnout syndrome. These terms are presented as opposing. Ch. Maslach’s theory on burnout along with Kwaśnica’s views were the basis of the research. The research was done from 2000 – 2002 on the sample of 257 teachers from different schools in different parts of Poland. In the second part of the article chosen results are referred: a diagnosis of professional development phases: preconventional, conventional, postconventional and the states of teachers’ professional activity: expanding from not disturbed activity, through first symptoms of burnout to burnout syndrome. Some essential conclusions can be drawn from the research. First of all, professional development can protect teachers from experiencing burnout, mainly due to growing professional competences, job adaptation and increasing creativity in teachers’ attitude. Moreover, it turned out that, depending on the phase of professional development, different factors stimulate teachers’ growth- these factors must be strengthened to prevent from burnout.

Introduction and objective. Numerous studies have found that doctors are exposed to stress and burnout at work. In consequence, these processes lead to a decrease in the quality of life. The study aimed to determine whether professional burnout, understood as a cognitive existential process, is related to stress at work and if any of the four dimensions of burnout are its predictor. The study also analyzed relations between organizational-professional and non-professional-social factors and burnout and stress at work. Materials and method. 318 doctors (210 women, 108 men), aged 27 – 8, participated in the study. Link Burnout Questionnaire (LBQ) was used to measure burnout, and the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) to measure the variable describing the current level of stress. Results. Occupational burnout is related to stress. Two of its symptoms: exhaustion and lack of a sense of professional effectiveness, are important predictors for the sense of stress experienced by the examined group of doctors. The individuals who are in a partner relationship (but not marriage) experienced a stronger sense of non-professional effectiveness than those who were single. Being in an informal relationship is related to the level of stress and lack of a sense of professional effectiveness. The level of stress, as well as all burnout indicators, are connected with the function of a team leader and having passion. The frequency of taking leave and using social networks is related to the level of stress and burnout. Conclusions. Problems related to burnout in doctors, and therefore people professionally involved in helping and treating, must not be underestimated, as evidenced by the results of the presented study Professional burnout of doctors leads to somatic and psychological problems. Doctors suffering from occupational burnout need support and psychological assistance the same as any other professional group.
