The paper presents the results of the research concerning the efficiency of apple juice processing. In the tests apples of variety Idared were used. Two types of laboratory basket presses were applied. The first one was with perforated cylinder and solid bottom and the second one with perforated bottom and solid cylinder. Pressing was carried out in two modes, continuous and periodic. The yield of juice pressing and moisture content in pomace was determined. The yield of extraction was ranged from 52% to 60.7%. There was significant effect of the load mode on the yield of juice pressing. The yield of extraction in periodic mode was higher than in continuous mode for both of investigated presses. The relationship between the yield of extraction and the pressure of pressing was described by the power law equation. There was no influence of press construction on the pressing yield of apple juice.
W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań nad efektywnością procesu tłoczenia soku jabłkowego. Do analiz użyto jabłek odmiany Idared. Wykorzystano dwa rodzaje pras, prasa pierwsza posiadała perforowany cylinder i pełne dno, zaś prasa druga perforowane dno i pełny cylinder. Proces tłoczenia przeprowadzono w dwóch trybach: okresowym i ciągłym. Określono wydajność tłoczenia i zawartość wody w wytłokach z jabłek. Wydajność tłoczenia zmieniała się w zakresie od 52% do 60,7%. Stwierdzono wyraźny wpływ trybu obciążania materiału na wydajność tłoczenia. Wydajność tłoczenia w trybie okresowym była wyższa w porównaniu z trybem ciągłym dla obu badanych pras. Zależność pomiędzy wydajnością soku a ciśnieniem tłoczenia opisano za pomocą równania potęgowego. Nie stwierdzono wpływu konstrukcji prasy na wydajność tłoczenia.

Huhn PressTech Ltd. is a company producing metal products as results of pressing process, construction units and other components used in automotive industry. The aim of the article is to review the process of internal quality evaluation method on daily basis. Constantly growing demand on metal chipless machining replaces the older chip`s technology. This paper aimed to clarify, how the company performs fault evaluation and what is done for their correction. To explain the procedure of evaluation in detail and demonstrate the solution, there were artificially made parts 3333 and 5555 in the company. The result is called Quality Alert.

The main objective of the present work was to determine the effect of powder composition on microstructure and properties of iron-base materials used as matrices in diamond impregnated tools. The Fe-Cu-Ni powders premixed and ball-milled for 30 hours, were used for the experiments. The influence of manufacturing process parameters on microstructure and mechanical properties of produced sinters was investigated. Sintering was done by hot-pressing technique in graphite mould. The powders were consolidated to a virtually pore-free condition during 3 minutes hold at 35 MPa and 900°C. Investigations of the sintered materials included: density, hardness, static tensile test and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. Microstructural and fractographic observations were also made with a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The obtained results indicate that the sintered parts have a high density, close to the theoretical value, good plasticity, relatively high hardness and yield strength, and are characterized by a coarse-grained microstructure.

The aim of this work was to characterize the microstructure of LMO type ceramics. The ceramics obtained by the free sintering at two temperatures 1473 K and 1573 K and two sintering times 6 and 12 h was the test material. One series was also obtained by the hot pressing method for a comparison. In all the cases the material synthesis was conducted by the solid-state reaction method at 1173 for 24 h. Photographs of the specimen fractures were taken by a scanning electron microscope to characterize the microstructure of the ceramics obtained in a more detailed way. The VISILOG 4 system, enabling to calculate a lot of parameters characterizing the material microstructure, such as e.g.: a number of grains on the unit area, an average grain size, shape indexes of the grains in question, was used as well. It allows determining a grain size distribution, and a frequency of presence of grains with the specific shape index. By analyzing a set of the parameters obtained an influence of the technological conditions on the microstructure of the material in question, and on its properties and applicability at the same time can be determined.

The aim of this paper is an assessment of the influence of hot isostatic pressing treatment on porosity of cast samples - turbine blades and vane clusters made of the IN713C superalloy. Two variants of HIP treatments, differing in pressure from each other, have been used. The quantitative evaluation of the porosity was performed using light microscopy and quantitative metallography methods. The use of the hot isostatic pressing significantly decreased the volume fraction and size of pores in the test blades, the remaining pores after the HIP process being characterized by a round shape. The increased pressure has caused significant reductions in the area fraction and size of the pores.

In ceramic forming techniques high particles packing can provide better properties of the final ceramic products. The high quality of the material coupled with the shape complexity of the ceramic product is still challenging. The aim of this work was the optimization and preparation of the ceramic samples based on two alumina powders of different particle size (AA05: 0.5 μm and TM-DAR: 0.15 μm). Firstly, ceramic suspensions of 50 vol.% solid loading and the volumetric ratio of AA05 to TM-DAR 1:1, 2:1, 3:1, 4:1, respectively have been prepared. The 2-carboxyethyl acrylate was applied as the new monomer limiting the negative effect of oxygen inhibition. Additionally, the cold isostatic pressing (CIP) was used in order to increase relative density of green bodies. The results of presented research have shown that samples with the ratio of AA05 to TM-DAR 2:1 were characterized by the highest green density (62%). Moreover, CIP process proved to be effective and increased the density of green bodies from 62% to 67%. The pore size distribution of the green bodies has been measured. Samples were sintered at different conditions (1400°C, 1450°C and 1500°C for 1h and 1300°C, 1400°C, 1450°C and 1500°C for 5h).

The subject of the study was aluminum samples of varying thickness. The aim of the study was to perform the experimental stamping process of the samples on a universal testing machine and a numerical analysis on two independent computer systems Abaqus® and Deform-3D. As part of the numerical analysis, bilinear material model was included, taking into account elastic and plastic characteristics. The study was conducted in a dynamic environment with geometric nonlinearity. The results obtained from experimental research were confronted with those obtained by FEM computer simulation. During the research, numerical model of the stamping process has been developed, which was validated with the results of experimental research.

The present study investigated various thermodynamic parameters, microstructures and electrochemical behaviors of TiMoVCrZr and Ti-rich TiMoVCrZr high-entropy alloys (HEAs) prepared by vacuum arc remelting. The microstructures of the alloys were analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and potentiodynamic polarization tests. The determined thermodynamic values of the Ω-parameter and the atomic size difference (δ) for the HEAs were determined to be in the range of Ω ≥ 1.1, and δ ≤ 6.6% with valance electron configuration (VEC) ≤ 5.0, suggesting the HEAs were effective at forming solid solutions. XRD patterns of the equiatomic Ti20 Mo20 V20 Cr20 Zr20 HEA revealed four phases consisting of the body centered cubic1 (BCC1 ), BCC2 , hexagonal close-packed (HCP), and intermetallic compound Cr2 Zr phases. Three phases were observed in the XRD patterns of Ti-rich Ti40 Mo15 V15 Cr15 Zr15 (BCC, HCP, and Cr2 Zr) and a single BCC phase was observed in Ti-rich Ti60 Mo10 V10 Cr10 Zr10 HEAs. The backscattered-electron (BSE) images on the equiatomic Ti20 Mo20 V20 Cr20 Zr20 HEA revealed BCC and HCP phases with Cr2 Zr precipitates, suggesting precipitation from the HCP solid solution during the cooling. The micro-segregation of Ti-rich Ti60 Mo10 V10 Cr10 Zr10 HEAs appeared to decrease remarkably. The alloying elements in the HEAs were locally present and no phase changes occurred even after additional HIP treatment. The lowest current density obtained in the polarization potential test of Ti-rich Ti40 Mo15 V15 Cr15 Zr15 HEA was 7.12×10-4 mA/cm2 was obtained. The studied TiMoVCrZr HEAs showed improved corrosion characteristics as compared to currently available joint replacement material such as ASTM F75 alloy.

Due to its interesting properties and wide applications in different industries, fabrication of monolithic NiTi with cost-effective methods is an important and attractive issue. One of the economic ways to fabricate NiTi is employing elemental nickel and titanium powders. In this study, effects of using elemental powders as a precursor on the microstructure and mechanical properties of HIP-consolidated NiTi samples will be explored. The result of XRD analysis showed that after HIP process an interwoven structure which consists of NiTi2, Ni3Ti and B2-B19′ NiTi evolves. The formation of NiTi2/Ni3Ti intermetallics is thermodynamically favored which affects different aspects of this alloy: (i) it alters martensitic transformation temperatures; (ii) restricts essential properties of this alloy such as PE and SME, (iii) increases hardness, and (iv) yields to premature fracture at small strains during tensile tests.

This paper discusses the mechanical properties of materials fabricated from commercially available powders designed for use as a metal matrix of diamond-impregnated composites. The powders with the catalogue numbers CSA and CSA800 produced in China were tested under laboratory conditions. The specimens were fabricated in a graphite mould using hot pressing. The materials were analysed for density, porosity, hardness and static tensile strength. A scanning electron microscope (SEM) was employed to observe the microstructure and fracture surfaces of the specimens. The experimental data was used to determine how the chemical composition of the powders and the process parameters affected the microstructure and properties of the materials. The properties of the sintered materials produced from the Chinese powders were compared with the properties reported for specimens fabricated from cobalt powder (Co SMS). Even though the hot pressed CSA and CSA800 powders had inferior mechanical properties to their cobalt analogue, they seem well-suited for general-purpose diamond-impregnated tools with less demanding applications.

The present research is focused on the characterization of the composites from Al2O3-Cu-Ni system. Two methods of ceramic-metal composite forming were applied: uniaxial powder pressing and Pulse Plasma Sintering (PPS). To obtain the samples the powder mixtures containing 85 vol.% of Al2O3 and 15 vol.% of metal powders were used. Influence of the sintering process on microstructure and mechanical properties of the two series of the composites was analyzed in detail. The selected physical properties of samples were characterized by Archimedes immersion method. Vickers hardness and the fracture toughness of the composites was determined as well. The microstructure of the composites was characterized by XRD, SEM, EDX. Fractography investigation was carried out as well. Independently on composite production method Al2O3, Cu, Ni, and CuNi phases were revealed. Fractography investigation results revealed different character of fracture in dependence of fabrication method. Pulse Plasma Sintered samples were characterized by higher crack resistance and higher Vickers hardness in comparison to the specimens manufactured by uniaxial pressing.

Opis:
An impact of surface spray and pressing temperature on the properties of high density fibreboards. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of chosen process parameters: water spray amount and 3rd press heating section temperature on the mechanical, physical properties of ultrathin (2.5 mm) industrial high-density fibreboards (HDF) produced with 5% of recovered HDF (rHDF) addition. Boards were produced with 0 ml/m2 – V0, 8 ml/m2 – V8, 16 ml/m2 – V16 and 32 ml/m2 – V32 of surface water spray addition on top and bottom side in industrial hot continuous press with 3rd heating section temperature setups: 145oC (V45), 160oC (V60) and 175oC (V75). After variants examination with different surface water spray amount it was found, that there is roughly linear positive correlation for MOR increase for up to 10% comparing V0 to V32 and for surface roughness decrease for up to 31%. Surface water spray improved IB for up to 21% while WA decreased for up to 9% for V8 comparing to HDF produced without surface water spray addition. According to 3rd press heating section temperature influence – MOR and MOE has increased while other mechanical properties worsen with pressing temperature increase – drop in IB and SS.
Wpływ natrysku oraz temperatury prasowania na właściwości płyt pilśniowych suchoformowanych wysokiej gęstości. Celem badań było określenie wpływu ilości natrysku wody oraz temperatury 3-ciej sekcji grzewczej prasy, jako parametrów procesowych, na właściwości mechaniczne i fizyczne ultra cienkich płyt (2,5 mm) włóknistych wysokiej gęstości (HDF), wytwarzanych z 5% udziałem włókien poużytkowych (rHDF). W pierwszej części użyto natrysku wody na powierzchnię górną i dolną prasowanego materiału w ilościach: 0 ml/m2, 8 ml/m2, 16 ml/m2 i 32 ml/m2. W drugiej części zastosowano zmienne temperatury 3-ciej sekcji grzewczej przemysłowej prasy ciągłego działania, tj.: 145oC, 160oC i 175oC. Po przebadaniu płyt z różnym natryskiem wody na powierzchnię, zauważono pozytywną linową zależność dla MOR – wzrost do 10% porównując skrajne badane warianty. Podobnie było w przypadku chropowatości powierzchni, która maleje o 31%. Natrysk wody na powierzchnię poprawia IB do 21% oraz obniża WA o 9% porównując ze sobą warianty 0 i 8 ml/m2. W przypadku wpływu temperatury 3-ciej sekcji grzewczej prasy to takie parametry mechaniczne jak MOR i MOE poprawiają się wraz ze wzrostem tej temperatury, a inne jak: IB czy SS pogarszają.

Previous studies concerning pure tungsten carbide polycrystalline materials revealed that nanolayers of graphite located between WC grains improve its thermal properties. What is more, pressure-induced orientation of graphene nano platelets (GNP) in hot pressed silicon nitride-graphene composites results in anisotropy of thermal conductivity. Aim of this study was to investigate if addition of GNP to WC will improve its thermal properties. For this purpose, tungsten carbide with 0.5–6 wt.% of GNP(12)-additive underwent hot pressing. The microstructure observations performed by SEM microscopy. The anisotropy was determined via ultrasonic measurements. The following mechanical properties were evaluated: Vickers hardness, bending strength, fracture toughness KIc. The influence of GNP(12) addition on oxidation resistance and thermal conductivity was examined. It was possible to manufacture hot-pressed WC-graphene composites with oriented GNP(12) particles, however, the addition of graphene decreased both thermal and mechanical properties of the material.

In this paper we compare the electrical and thermoelectric properties of polycrystalline PbTe doped with chromium and iodine, obtained by the Bridgman method and the sintered material obtained following the powder processing procedure. The highest values of the Seebeck coefficient for the polycrystalline and sintered material are as follows: - 160 μV/K (T = 675 K) and - 311 μV/K (T = 573 K), respectively, thus indicating a significant improvement in the thermoelectric properties of the sintered material. The studies of the influence of the powder particle size on the properties of the sintered material were carried out.
W artykule przedstawiono porównanie własności elektrycznych i termoelektrycznych polikrystalicznego tellurku ołowiu domieszkowanego chromem i jodem, otrzymanego za pomocą metody Bridgmana z własnościami materiału spiekanego otrzymanego z proszków. Najwyższe wartości współczynnika Seebecka polikrystalicznego materiału i materiału po spiekaniu wynoszą odpowiednio: - 160 μV/K (T = 675 K) oraz - 310 μV/K (T = 573 K) i wskazują na znaczną poprawę parametrów termoelektrycznych materiału otrzymanego w wyniku spiekania. Przeprowadzono badania wpływu wielkości ziaren proszku na własności materiału spiekanego.

Opis:
Hot Isostatic Pressing elaboration of Norem02, an austenitic-ferritic hypereutectoid stainless steel, leads to the formation of an austenitic matrix with a mixture of acicular M7 C3 and globular M23 C6 carbides. The sintering tests, carried out by using an AISI 304L container, showed that the final microstructure and the carbides’ distribution of the HIPed Norem02 are strongly influenced by the process parameters (heating and cooling rate, sintering time, holding temperature and pressure) and by the particles’ size, microstructure and phase distribution of the initial powder. The morphological, crystallographic and chemical analysis of the sintered samples were completed by comprehension of the diffusion phenomena at the Norem02/304L interface, enabling the establishment of a correlation between elaboration process and final microstructure.
