    It is the objective of this paper to analyse selected English Renaissance translations of the Book of Psalms in the light of their reception. In particular, I intend to illustrate how a strong preference for a familiar rendition over a new one (regardless of its quality and status) showed itself in the textual composition of the most important book of the Anglican Church – the Book of Common Prayer. Discussion of the Psalm translation selected for the five successive versions of the Book of Common Prayer against the backdrop of the emergence of new renditions of the Psalms leads on to formulating a desideratum for sound methodology which would express the level of similarities between texts in mathematical terms and in this way objectivise assessments of Psalter renditions. The paper offers a preliminary attempt at such methodology by applying the cosine distance method. The obtained results need to be verified on a larger corpus of data, but they are promising enough to consider this method an important step towards assessing Psalm translations.

    Modlitewnik niderlandzki z Godzinkami Geerta Grote z Biblioteki Uniwersyteckiej Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego Jana Pawła II (sygn. BU KUL, rkps 2626) W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono nowe badania nad modlitewnikiem niderlandzkim, znajdującym się w zbiorach Biblioteki Uniwersyteckiej KUL (sygn. BU KUL, rkps 2626). Kodeks ten, przekazujący m.in. utwory pobożnościowe w przekładzie Geerta Grote, propagatora ruchu Devotio Moderna w Niderlandach — zwłaszcza Małe Oficjum Najświętszej Maryi Panny — jak również będący dziełem anonimowego tłumacza przekład Hundert Betrachtungen und Begehrungen Heinricha Suso, jest cennym świadectwem kultury literackiej i religijnej w późnośredniowiecznych Niderlandach. Artykuł rozpoczyna się od opisu kodykologicznego, po którym następuje wstępna analiza programu artystycznego rękopisu, opis struktury kodeksu oraz ustalenie treści najważniejszych zawartych w nim tekstów. Zawarte w tekście rękopisu wskazówki pozwalają wysnuć wniosek, że obszarem, z którego wywodzi się kodeks, jest prawdopodobnie diecezja utrechcka.
    This article presents new research on a Dutch prayer book from the collections of the University Library of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (BU KUL, Lublin, Ms. 2626). This codex, which transmits devotional texts in a translation by Geert Grote, a pioneer of the Modern Devotion movement, especially the Small Office of the Virgin Mary and the Middle Dutch adaptation of Heinrich Suso’s Hundert Betrachtungen und Begehrungen, offers valuable evidence of literary and religious culture in the late-medieval Netherlands. The article begins with a codicological description, followed by a preliminary analysis of the artistic program of the manuscript, a description of the structure of the codex and the identification of the most important texts. Textual evidence indicates that the codex most probably originated from the diocese of Utrecht.

    This article is the first in a series that aims to publish all the Coptic ostraca discovered by Tomasz Górecki during his excavations in the hermitage MMA 1152 (Western Thebes) between 2003 and 2013. Here, I am presenting the edition of private letters. There are altogether sixty-eight such texts, of which eleven have been published elsewhere and fifty-seven are edited here. Even though many of them are very fragmentary, one can recognize various topics common to the letters of this region in the seventh–eighth centuries. They also testify to the relations that existed between the hermitage and the neighbouring sites of the Theban region.
