Opis:
Complementary to the conventional class-E topology, inverse class-E operation has several advantages over the class-E counterpart, such as lower peak switch voltage and smaller circuit inductance, which are attractive to high power RF design and MMIC implementation. This paper derives the closed-form design equations that can be used to synthesize the idealized operation of inverse class-E power amplifiers at any switch duty ratio. Calculation of the key design parameters, such as the maximum switch voltage and circuit components values, is elaborated and compared with the case of conventional class-E operation. Further, the theoretical analysis is confirmed and verified by numerical simulations performed on a 500mW, 2.4 GHz idealized inverse class-E power amplifier.

The effect of the power amplifier on speech intelligibility in public address systems is often marginalised – i.e. it is assumed that it does not introduce significant signal distortion. This approach is justified when the linear range of the amplifier is used. The large crest factor of the speech signal and economic considerations mean that the amplifier also works in the non-linear range. In this paper, the effect of power amplifier distortion on the speech transmission index for public address systems (STIPA) is presented. In the first step, this influence was evaluated by measurements for Class AB and D amplifiers. Then, a computer model of the public address system based on the direct STIPA method, taking into account the non-linear properties of the amplifier, was proposed. Using the computer model, the optimum amplifier driving values were determined taking into account the reverberation time and interfering noise.speech transmission index; power amplifier; public address system.

In the paper, a 100W SiC MESFET amplifier design dedicated for a L-band T/R module of APAR is presented. The output power higher than 100 W has been achieved by combining in a balanced configuration two single stages with Cree's 60 W CRF24060 SiC MESFETs. The amplifier design methodology is based on the small-signal model and DC characteristics of SiC MESFET. The model is extracted using the transistor Sparameters at three operating points for On-state, Off-state and normally biased. The measurements and simulations prove usefulness of the proposed design method. The amplifier was excited with pulsed and cw signals for the case temperature ranging from 60°C to 140°C. As a result of the case temperature changes the output power drop was lower than 0.5 dB at the level of 150 W.

Opis:
We developed a three-stage, amplifying, tunable diode laser system that comprises a master laser in a Littrow configuration, frequency-stabilized by dichroic atomic vapour laser lock, acousto-optic frequency shifter, injection-locked slave laser, and tapered amplifier. The slave amplifies the injected frequency-shifted master beam while suppressing (within 0.5%) the strong dependence of its intensity on the acousto-optic frequency shifter carrier frequency, thus acting as a strongly saturated optical limiting amplifier with constant output power. The resulting beam is then amplified in a tapered amplifier. The system provides an output power above 700 mW at a wavelength of 780 nm, with a time-averaged linewidth of 0.6 MHz, and a frequency drift below 2 MHz/h. Dichroic atomic vapour laser lock enables frequency stabilization in the range of 400 MHz around D2 lines of rubidium. The mode-hop-free tuning range amounts to 2 GHz. Determined by the acousto-optic frequency shifter model used, the fine-tuning range (recision of few tens kHz) spans 70 MHz. A description of the system was presented and its performance was tested. The basic components have been designed in our laboratory.

Opis:
Digital predistortion (DPD) using baseband signals is commonly used for power amplifier linearization. This paper is devoted to this subject and aims to reduce DPD complexity. In this study, we propose a structure that allows to decrease the number of DPD parameters by using multiple blocks, with each one of them dedicated to characterizing the non-linear behavior and/or memory effects. Such a structure is based on the feedback Wiener system, involving a FIR filter used as a feedback path to reproduce the PA inverse dynamics. A memory polynomial block (MP) is inserted as the final element to minimize the modeling errors. A relevant model identification method, based on an iterative algorithm, has been developed as well. The proposed architecture is used for the linearization of a commercial class-AB LDMOS RF PA by NXP Semiconductors, in wideband communication systems. Comparison of performance with the conventional generalized memory polynomial model (GMP) shows that the proposed model offers similar results, with its advantage consisting in the reduced number of parameters.

This paper presents a broadband Switch-Mode Power Amplifier (SMPA) using a Band-Pass Filter (BPF) at the Output Matching Network (OMN). The proposed SMPA integrates a microstrip BPF as an output impedance matching network to significantly reduce the final circuit size. The microstrip lines of the filter simultaneously play the role of filtering and impedance matching. This proposed method reduces the size of the PA and reduces the power dissipation as much as possible. The BPF is placed at the output of the circuit using microstrip lines and the RT Duroid 6006 substrate. This BPF covers a wide bandwidth ranging from 3.0 GHz to 4.4 GHz. Simulation results show 9-14 dB gain with 44 - 56.6 % drain efficiency ( DE %), and the output power of 39 – 41.3 dBm would be achieved across the frequency band from 3.0 GHz to 4.4 GHz.

We report a compact, all fiber, 150 ps fiber master oscillator power amplifier operating at 1064 nm that has the ability of producing a maximum average output power of 2.16 W with peak power as high as 10 kW. The output from the master oscillator power amplifier is spliced with a highly nonlinear photonic crystal fiber, generating a supercontinuum with an average power of 250 mW at repetition rate of 1 MHz and spectrum bandwidth spanning from 600 to 1700 nm. The developed supercontinuum system is used to detect the presence of heavy metal contaminants in water by a simple light transmittance method to ensure that the water is free from heavy metal contaminants and safe for consumption. The supercontinuum laser source was shone onto a water sample with a detector placed at another end in order to measure the transmitted supercontinuum light. By measuring the amount of light attenuated at particular wavelength, the concentration of heavy metal contaminants present in the water sample could be determined.

Self-oscillating h.f. power generators with a Class E amplifier are used as industrial high-efficiency h.f. power sources. In the paper a modification of the classic Class E generator by applying an additional capacitor in the matching and feedback circuit is presented. The proposed solution increases the degree of freedom in the generator design and can noticeably reduce its cost by eliminating the need for the use of high-value h.f. capacitors in the feedback loop divider. The self-oscillating Class E generator (150 W/6.78 MHz) with the proposed modification has been designed, built and its parameters were measured. Theoretical predictions were in a good agreement with experimental results. Moreover, the burst control method of the output power in the generator has also been presented.

Further, the OTA is likewise comprised of a method to enhance the input impedance without consuming more power. Also, the ripple reduction technique is used at the output branch of the OTA. The designed amplifier consumes 5.5 µW power with the mid-band gain of 40dB. The pass-band for the designed amplifier is 0.1Hz to 1KHz. The input impedance is likewise boosted with the proposed method. The noise is 42 nV/√ Hz with CMRR of 82 dB. All simulations are carried out in 180nm parameters.

This paper introduces a low-noise, low-power amplifier for high-impedance sensors. An innovative circuit using an auto-zeroed architecture combined with frequency modulation to reject offset and low-frequency noise is proposed and analysed. Special care was given to avoid broadband noise aliasing and chopping in the signal path, and to minimize both the resulting equivalent input offset voltage and equivalent input biasing current. The theoretical noise analysis of the proposed topology covers most of the noise sources of the circuit. Simulations show that the input-referred noise level of the circuit is 13.4nV/√Hz for a power consumption of 85µA with a power supply from 1.8V to 3.6V.
