Opis:
Macmurray replaces the traditional philosophical standpoint of subject-as-thinker with self-as-agent, and only persons are agents. The unit of the personal is “I-and-you”; I become “I” when I distinguish myself from “not-I”, namely, “you”. Awareness of the negative begins in babyhood, as I learns I am dependent on a relationship with an Other who can fail to fulfil my needs. The logic of the personal then differs from mathematical logic or Hegelian “logic”, since for it, “the positive is constituted and sustained by its own negative”. Persons are capable of intentional action, doing this (the positive), instead of that, while thinking is the negative (what I don’t do.) Action being primary, right and wrong come before true and false, and sustained thinking (a new philosophy) is needed for reflecting constructively on how to meet today’s challenges. Motivation for action can be either negative (fear) or positive, envisaging possible friendship.

The present study aimed to test how common workaholism is and which groups are most targeted in the workplace among Jordanian employees. Additionally, the roles of positive and negative perfectionism in workaholism were investigated. The sample consisted of 686 employees. All of them completed the study instruments. The results showed that the mean of workaholism was around the mean of the cut -off. Additionally, multivariate tests showed that the results of post hoc differences for positive perfectionism were in favor of males, subordinates, those with a bachelor’s degree, those with less than 5 years of experience, and those aged less than 30 years. Furthermore, the differences for negative perfectionism were in favor of those with a bachelor’s degree and subordinates. For workaholism, the differences were in favor of subordinates, public sector employees, married persons, and those with a diploma degree. Finally, the results of hierarchical regression analysis found that positive and negative perfectionism and some demographic variables predicted 12.9% of the variability in workaholism, and the typical hierarchical regression model included positive and negative perfectionism without other demographic variables.

This article presents two foreign or second language (L2) learner histories representing the extreme ends of the spectrum of learner well-being. One story reflects the very positive learning experiences of a highly strategic learner, while the other story focuses on a less strategic learner’s negative, long-lasting responses to a single traumatic episode. The theoretical framework comes from the concept of well-being in positive psychology (with significant adaptations). In addition to contrasting the two cases through the grounded theory approach, the study suggests that the adapted well-being framework is useful for understanding L2 learning experiences, even when the experiences are negative.

The purpose of this research paper is to find the expected incomes in open Markov queueing networks with incomes, positive and negative messages at any time by the multidimensional transformations. Investigations were carried out in cases when incomes from the network transitions between the states are deterministic functions not dependent on network states and time. It is assumed that all network systems are one-line. It was proved the theorem on the expression for the multidimensional z-transform. An algorithm was proposed for calculation of expected incomes. It is calculated an example on the PC.

Computer games are an interactive form of entertainment that is popular with younger and younger players. Therefore researchers are actively seeking information on the consequences of pursuing this type of pastime. At the beginning, the researchers’ attention was focused mainly on the negative aspects of gaming. Nowadays, more and more benefits related to this activity are being indicated. In 2014, Granic, Lobel and Engels published an article on the benefits of playing computer games. The researchers focused on four areas: cognitive, motivational, emotional, and social. They wanted to inspire new research on mental health benefits of gaming by pointing to various research reports they selected. This paper aims to present the research directions explored in recent years by researchers who strive to describe the positive and negative consequences of gaming. I present the main directions and examples of research in these areas, highlighting the ambiguity of the current results. Problematic areas related to gaming include aggression and violence, addiction, weakening of social relations, experiencing undesirable emotions, sexualization, racial prejudice, and racial discrimination. The indicated opportunities and benefits are the strengthening of cognitive, motor, emotional, and social competences.

Verification of the EI trait construct by stepwise regression analysis confirmed that it is determined only to a certain extent by the Big Five personality factors theory (14%) (by the TIPI questionnaire, Gosling, 2003) and by perception and experiencing of positive (15%) and negative (13%) mental states (by the SEHW questionnaire, Džuka & Dalbert, 2002). Thus, the emotional intelligence trait as a consistent construct partially captures individual variability of emotional aspects otherwise scattered across personality theories.

Finding the expected revenues in the queueing systems (QS) of open Markov G-networks of two types, with positive and negative customers and with positive customers and signals, has been described in the paper. A negative customer arriving to the system destroys one positive customer if at least one is available in the system, thus reducing the number of positive customers in the system by one. The signal, coming into an empty system (where there are no positive customers), does not have any impact on the network and immediately disappears from it. Otherwise, if the system is not empty, when it receives a signal, the following events can occur: the incoming signal instantly moves the positive customer from one QS into another with a certain probability, or with the other probability, the signal is triggered as a negative customer.

Introduction. Leisure may provide certain unique subjective well-being (SWB) benefits that cannot be obtained through other domains in life, as leisure is typically characterized by autonomy or greater freedom of choice than other life dimensions. The objective of the present study was to analyse the level of SWB in male and female high school students with different health status preferring sedentary leisure time activities and compare SWB dimensions (SWB-Ds) between healthy students and students with self-reported health disorders (S-RHDs). Material and Methods. The research sample comprised of 153 male students (healthy; n=90 and with S-RHDs; n=63) and 238 female students (healthy; n=126 and with S-RHDs; n=112) who preferred sedentary types of leisure time activities. A standardized The Bern Subjective Well-Being Questionnaire for Adolescents (BFW) was used as a primary research method. Non-parametric Mann Whitney U-test was used to assess differences between two independent groups of male and female high school students according to their self-reported health status (healthy vs. with S-RHDs). Results. Significantly higher level of negative SWB-Ds was found in the group of male students with S-RHDs compare healthy male students (U=1672, p=0.000, r=0.34). No significant differences were found in the comparison between healthy female students and female students with S-RHDs. Conclusions. Many researches indicate a very close positive connection between regular participation in sport leisure activities and SWB, but just few of them investigate correlations and comparisons among SWB, health status and sport leisure activities participation.

Opis:
The investigation of a Markov queueing network with positive and negative customers and positive customers batch removal has been carried out in the article. The purpose of the research is analysis of such a network at the non-stationary regime, finding the time-dependent state probabilities and mean number of customers. In the first part of this article, a description of the G-network operation is provided with one-line queueing systems. When a negative customer arrives to the system, the count of positive customers is reduced by a random value, which is set by some probability distribution. Then for the non-stationary state probabilities a Kolmogorov system was derived of differencedifferential equations. A technique for finding the state probabilities and the mean number of customers of the investigated network, based on the use of an apparatus of multidimensional generating functions has been proposed. The theorem about the expression for the generating function has been given. A model example has been calculated.

Opis:
In the paper an open Markov HM(Howard-Matalytski)-Queueing Network (QN) with incomes, positive customers and signals (G(Gelenbe)-QN with signals) is investigated. The case is researched, when incomes from the transitions between the states of the network are random variables (RV) with given mean values. In the main part of the paper a description is given of G-network with signals and incomes, all kinds of transition probabilities and incomes from the transitions between the states of the network. The method of finding expected incomes of the researched network was proposed, which is based on using of found approximate and exact expressions for the mean values of random incomes. The variances of incomes of queueing systems (QS) was also found. A calculation example, which illustrates the differences of expected incomes of HM-networks with negative customers and QN without them and also with signals, has been given. The practical significance of these results consist of that they can be used at forecasting incomes in computer systems and networks (CSN) taking into account virus penetration into it and also at load control in such networks.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to present selected issues of the effective allocation of resources and its function in optimal decision-making processes. The authors focus on the economic consequences of market failure in the case of external effects - both positive and negative. It has been characterized from the theoretical perspective by illustrating the economic implications of this situation for producers (producers surplus), consumers (consumer surplus), and the environment (external costs and benefits). This paper shines a light on effective levels of production, the subsidies to producers (in the case of positive externalities), or correcting tax (in the case of negative externalities). Moreover, the decision rules that are used in the cost-benefit analysis (a method supporting the decision-making process undertaken by both private entities and public authorities) are given. There are specific examples of its application in order to achieve allocative efficiency. An exception of its use is to achieve cost efficiency, which does not ensure that a project, program, or policy is socially optimal and desirable. The second part of this paper includes theoretical implications of market failure. The results of the authors' mathematical model that is used to optimize long-term energy sector development are presented. The importance of the presented results is that they reflect development of the Polish energy sector, both from the private and public viewpoint, taking into account the adverse effects caused by the emission of gaseous pollutants. Consumer and producer surpluses were the bases to estimate costs and benefits of change in the social welfare. It has been proven that the use of private welfare criterion is incorrect. The internalization of external costs (which means including them in decision-making criterion, significantly - i.e., 24%) increases the level of social welfare achieved on the scale of the whole Polish energy sector.

Opis:
Among contemporary researchers of the concept of freedom, there is complete agreement about the importance that Isaiah Berlin’s October 31, 1958, inaugural lecture “Two Concepts of Freedom”, given at the University of Oxford, has contributed to science. Published later and reprinted many times, it reorganized reflection on the concept of freedom by introducing the terms positive and negative freedom. Despite the appearance of numerous critical voices in the literature on the subject, it is certainly impossible to practice science today without recalling the aforementioned dichotomy. Nine years later, Gerald MacCallum – inspired by, i.a., Berlin’s theory – presented his own triadic model of freedom. In my research, I use this model, but extend its scope with an additional dimension of internal and external freedom. Therefore, the aim of this article is to reconstruct the category of human freedom present in the views of Aristotle of Stagira, carried out precisely by applying the extended formula of MacCallum and building its model with the use of the introduced research instruments. The adopted multidimensional perspective of observing human freedom allows for a comprehensive approach to various planes of human life, on which we can see the manifestations of this enigmatic and ambiguous concept that we call freedom.
Wśród współczesnych badaczy pojęcia wolności panuje całkowita zgoda co do znaczenia, jakie dla nauki odegrał wykład inauguracyjny Isaiaha Berlina z 31 października 1958 r. pt. „Dwa pojęcia wolności”, wygłoszony na Uniwersytecie Oksfordzkim. Opublikowany później i wielokrotnie przedrukowywany, uporządkował naukową refleksję nad pojęciem wolności poprzez wprowadzenie terminów wolności pozytywnej i negatywnej.
