Opis:
In this study, an analysis of deep sea shipping (DSS) container services, calling at Italian ports, is carried out. A comparison with analogous sets of data collected in the years 2011 and 2014 has been performed. The most important Italian port system is the Ligurian one, which includes the main Italian port, Genoa, which is the main access gate to the Padan Plain, the most productive area of Italy. However, other ports are also important: the Ligurian port of La Spezia and the hub port of Gioia Tauro. The comparison, with 2011 and 2014 data, has shown that while the number of DSS departures, from Italian ports, did not increase, the dimensions of the ships, which call at Italian ports, increased relevantly: this is in line with the current trend in container ship gigantism.

Opis:
To predict the logistics needs of the port, an evaluation algorithm for the port logistics park based on the PCASVM model was proposed. First, a quantitative indicator set for port logistics demand analysis was established. Then, based on the grey correlation analysis method, the specific indicator set of port logistics demand analysis was selected. The advantages of both principal component analysis and support vector machine algorithms were combined. The PCA-SVM model was constructed as a predictive model of the port logistics demand scale. The empirical analysis was conducted. Finally, from the perspective of the structure, demand, flow pattern and scale of port logistics demand, the future logistics demand of Shenzhen port was analysed. Through sensitivity analysis, the main influencing factors were found out, and the future development proposals of Shenzhen port were put forward. The results showed that the port throughput of Shenzhen City in 2016 was 21,328,200 tons. Compared with the previous year, it decreased by about 1.74 %. In summary, the PCA-SVM model accurately predicts the logistics needs of the port.

Opis:
Academic research has indicated that port competitiveness is multidimensional. Although a wide range of drivers of port competitiveness has already been determined, particular ports seem to use different sets of them at different development stages. This paper argues that significant growth in transhipment in Polish ports results from infrastructural development and mainly from enhanced hinterland connectivity. Before Poland had joined the EU, the hinterland connectivity was so underdeveloped that it was more convenient for many companies to use services of the German North Sea ports. However, with EU funds, road investments, travel times between the ports and hinterland have shortened by at least one-quarter. Moreover, the development of railway lines as well as the increase in the number of intermodal container terminals in the hinterland have also improved accessibility to the ports. Rail transport is especially significant for maintaining the competitiveness of ports at times of cutting-edge industry change, increasing the role of economies of scale in shipping.
