Opis:
This paper investigates the influence of the power converter on the performance of Surface Mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor drives, which employ High Frequency voltage injection to achieve low and zero speed control. Experimental results demonstrate the remarkable performance of the sensor less speed and position control employing the Matrix Converter and the contributions of the Space Modulation Profiling technique. The Matrix Converter has almost zero dead time, which means that behaves almost like an ideal power converter and achieves better results than the conventional Voltage Source Inverter. A comparison of the sensor less technique proposed using both converters is made.

Opis:
The article presents the most important causes of energy losses in magnetic circuits of electrical machines and describes a new design of a synchronized induction motor. The basic operational parameters of two structures: induction machine with squirrel cage (IM) and newly designed machine with a rotor with permanent magnets and a copper squirrel cage (induction machine synchronized with self-starting (LSPMSM) have been identified and compared. Performance characteristics were determined for work in steady states. In both cases the stator, type Sg 100L-4B of 3 kW induction motor was used. It has been shown that the PSPMSM supplied from the public mains grid shows the efficiency approx. 5% higher than the conventional motor. The influence of the change in the supply voltage frequency on the work of both structures was tested, i.e. on the measured efficiency, power factor and the electricity from electrical grid. Studies have shown that the LSPMSM can be a replacement for an induction motor. It has been shown that the torque pulsations occurring in the new structure (cogging torque) do not increase the environmental risks.

Opis:
The aim of the studywas to find an effective method of ripple torque compensation for a direct drive with a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) without time- consuming drive identification. The main objective of the research on the development of a methodology for the proper teaching a neural network was achieved by the use of iterative learning control (ILC), correct estimation of torque and spline interpolation. The paper presents the structure of the drive system and the method of its tuning in order to reduce the torque ripple, which has a significant effect on the uneven speed of the servo drive. The proposed structure of the PMSM in the dq axis is equipped with a neural compensator. The introduced iterative learning control was based on the estimation of the ripple torque and spline interpolation. The structurewas analyzed and verified by simulation and experimental tests. The elaborated structure of the drive system and method of its tuning can be easily used by applying a microprocessor system available now on the market. The proposed control solution can be made without time-consuming drive identification, which can have a great practical advantage. The article presents a new approach to proper neural network training in cooperation with iterative learning for repetitive motion systems without time-consuming identification of the motor.

In the paper the transients under starting process and the steady states of squirrel-cage motor (IM) and line start permanent magnet synchronous motor (LSPMSM) have been compared. The original stator of 3 kW induction motor type Sg 100L-4B, was used in both structures. In order to determine opportunities to increase energy parameters of LSPMSM the heating curves of both motors were compared. In LSPMSM the rotor with aluminum and copper cage was used. The basic operating parameters of the two structures which are characterized by identical stators were tested. Particular attention has been given to the transient under starting process. Efficiency, power factor and current in the stator windings obtained during measurements for both structures have been presented. The paper focuses on achieving a much higher output power for LSPMSM than an induction motor of the same size. The selected results of experimental tests were shown.

This paper considers the feasibility of different technologies for an electromagnetic launcher to assist civil aircraft take-off. This method is investigated to reduce the power required from the engines during initial acceleration. Assisted launch has the potential of reducing the required runway length, reducing noise near airports and improving overall aircraft efficiency through reducing engine thrust requirements. The research compares two possible linear motor topologies which may be efficaciously used for this application. The comparison is made on results from both analytical and finite element analysis (FEA).

Opis:
Both permanent magnet brushless DC motors and permanent magnet synchronous motors have attracted wide attention and are increasingly used in industrial high-performance applications in recent years. Those motors are known for their good electrical, magnetic and performance characteristics, but there is one parameter known as cogging torque that has a negative influence on the performance characteristics of the motor. This pulsating torque is generated as a result of the interaction between the stator teeth and the permanent magnets. The minimisation of the ripple of this torque in those permanent magnet motors is of great importance and is generally achieved by a special motor design which in the design process involves a variety of many geometrical motor parameters. In this research work, a novel approach will be introduced where two different nature-inspired algorithms, such as genetic algorithm (GA) and cuckoo search (CS) algorithm are used as an optimisation tool, in which the defined equation for the maximum value of the cogging torque is applied as an objective function. Therefore, a proper mathematical presentation of the maximum value of the cogging torque for the analysed synchronous motor is developed and implemented in the research work. For a detailed analysis of the three different motor models, the initial motor and the two optimised motor models are modelled and analysed using a finite element method approach. The cogging torque is analytically and numerically calculated and the results for all the models are presented.

The presented study examines the effect of voltage subharmonics, which relates to components of the frequency less than the fundamental voltage harmonic, and the currents and vibration of the line start permanent magnet synchronous motor. The obtained experimental results corresponded to a production motor with a rated power of 3 kW and a rated speed of 1500 rpm. The main purpose of our study was to highlight that the subharmonic value had a non-linear effect on the vibration level of the considered motor. It was found that for subharmonic values up to approx. 0.5% of the vibration level could be considered acceptable for long-term operation, whereas vibration caused by voltage subharmonics of values greater than approx. 0.8% might promote machine damage.

Opis:
This paper deals with the selected methods of detecting angular misalignment in drive systems with a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), which are based on the analysis of the stator phase current signal, as well as their experimental verification and comparison. The proposed and compared methods are spectral analysis and wavelet analysis of the stator current, stator current envelope, stator current space vector module. Furthermore, the influence of power supply frequency and load torque on the performance of the proposed diagnostic methods is also discussed. The experimental tests were carried out for an undamaged motor and for two levels of angular misalignment. The article discusses the question of exactly what damage symptoms can be extracted from each of the methods. In the case of spectral analyses, it is demonstrated which multiplicities of the failure frequency are the most sensitive to misalignment and the least sensitive to changes in motor operating condition, which may be considered novel in the case of drive systems with permanent magnet motors. It is also proven that discrete wavelet transform (DWT) of the envelope and monitoring of the value of the relevant components allows the detection of misalignment with the availability of measuring current only in one phase in various motor operating conditions.

In this paper, a creative dung beetle optimization (CDBO) algorithm is proposed and applied to the offline parameter identification of permanent magnet synchronous motors. First, in order to uniformly initialize the population state and increase the population diversity, a strategy to improve the initialization of the dung beetle population using Singer chaotic mapping is proposed to improve the global search performance; second, in order to improve the local search performance and enhance the convergence accuracy of the algorithm, a new dung beetle position update strategy is designed to increase the spatial search range of the algorithm. Simulation results show that the proposed optimization algorithm can quickly and accurately identify parameters such as resistance, inductance, and magnetic chain of the PMSM, with significant improvements in convergence algebra, identification accuracy and stability.

In order to compare the performance difference of the permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) with different rotor structure, two kinds of rotor magnetic circuit structure with surface-mounted radial excitation and tangential excitation are designed respectively. By comparing and analyzing the results, the difference of the motor performance was determined. Firstly, based on the finite element method (FEM), the motor electromagnetic field performance was studied, and the magnetic field distribution of the different magnetic circuit structure was obtained. The influence mechanism of the different magnetic circuit structure on the air gap flux density was obtained by using the Fourier theory. Secondly, the cogging torque, output torque and overload capacity of the PMSM with different rotor structure were studied. The effect mechanism of the different rotor structure on the motor output property difference was obtained. The motor prototype with two kinds of rotor structure was manufactured, and the experimental study was carried out. By comparing the experimental data and simulation data, the correctness of the research is verified. This paper lays a foundation for the research on the performance of the PMSM with different magnetic circuit structure.

Opis:
In modern drive systems, the high-efficient permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) have become one of the most substantial components. Nevertheless, such machines are exposed to various types of faults. Hence, on-line condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of PMSMs have become necessary. One of the most common PMSM faults is the stator winding fault. Due to the destructive character of this failure, it is necessary to use fault diagnostic methods that allow fault detection at its early stage. The article presents the results of experimental studies obtained from fast Fourier transform (FFT) and short-time Fourier transform (STFT) analyses of the stator phase current, stator phase current envelope and stator phase current space vector module. The superiority of the proposed method over the classical approach based on the stator current analysis using FFT is highlighted. The proposed solution is experimentally verified under various motor operating conditions. The application of STFT analysis discussed so far in the literature has been limited to the fault diagnosis of induction motors and the narrow range of the analysed motor operating conditions. Moreover, there are no works in the field of motor diagnostics dealing with STFT analysis for stator windings based on the stator current envelope and the stator current space vector module.
