Opis:
This study was conducted to determine factors affecting the number of visitors in recreational parks in Addis Ababa. The study encompasses the analysis of the data collected from 180 randomly selected sample visitors of Hamle 19 and Future recreational parks selected purposively selected from Addis Ababa recreation sites. Both descriptive statistics and econometrics model were used to analyze the quantitative data. To determine the factors influencing the number of visitors to the recreational parks econometric model called multiple regression model used. To analyze the data a statistical software known as SPSS used. The mean of age of visitors to the recreational parks were 31 years with minimum of 18 and maximum of 59. And the average family size was 3.6 while the minimum and the maximum household size were 1 and 10 respectively. Travel costs, visitor’s income and acquaintance with the site were found to be significant of a recreation demand at Addis Ababa recreation sites. Whereas other explanatory variables such as Gender, marital status, group visit and occupation, were found to be insignificant of visits to Addis Ababa recreation site. Among the other variables, visitors’ monthly income is considered as one of the critical variables that affects the number of visits positively. As the income of the visitors’ increases by one birr, the number of visits is expected to increase by 0.00193 percent.

For more than ten years a dynamic and intensive development has been observed in spatial information technology combining elements of geoinformatics with data from various sources in order to create elaborate, often interdisciplinary and multifunctional compilations. The progressing implementation of IT solutions with reference to resources and related trends to make public information that is useful to a wide group of recipients are reflected in multimedia information materials of many public institutions and private businesses. An example of using electronic technologies in the presentation of spatial data of national parks is widely available geoportals, interactive maps and other cartographic or paracartographic visualizations offering various tools allowing the utilisation of spatial information resources. This publication aims at a multi-level analysis of the availability of network services, as defined in Directive 2007/2/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 14 March 2007 establishing an Infrastructure for Spatial Information in the European Community, to all the existing geoportals of Polish national parks and a review of additional functions offered by the map services of all 23 Polish national parks that may be useful to users. As a result of research, tables and descriptions comparing the functions of the analysed geoportals were compiled and additional practical tools observed in other services were described. In addition, based on the comparisons, a concept of geoportal optimization was developed taking into account all categories of spatial information services and optional functions.

Opis:
Currently, technological parks constitute the most organisational and conceptually developed type of innovation centres and entrepreneurship. This results in the fact that they can be encountered in all highly developed countries in the world. They are also formed in the catching-up countries. However, one should consider whether the stimulation of innovation in the countries, which are not based on knowledge through institutional solutions used in the developed countries will turn out to be effective. Because between these countries there is a technological gap. The aim of the article was therefore to determine, using the probit modelling, the direction and strength of technological parks on the innovation activity. The study covered two provinces: Silesian, which is one of the most developed regions in Poland and Pomeranian with the intermediate industrial system. The influence of technological parks on innovation was determined based on the survey conducted in 1453 industrial enterprises. The main conclusions are brought down to the following theses: (1) using the technological parks increases the chance for the implementation of new solutions by enterprises, (2) parks to a greater extent stimulate the innovation activity in the developed province, (3) enterprises entering in the cross-regional network relations favours the selection of the technological park as the catalyst for innovation processes.

Recreational Parks in Addis Ababa
Willingness to Pay
Opis:
Willingness to pay is the maximum price at or below which a visitor will definitely buy one unit of product. This study examines the willingness to pay for recreational park services of two parks in Addis Ababa and to determine the attributes of willingness to pay of the recreational parks. The data were collected from a sample of 180 visitors in Addis Ababa recreational parks. The multivariate regression results obtained from this study indicated that travel costs, visitor’s income, and the number of years a visitor know the recreational parks were important determinants factors of the WTP of the sample visitors of Addis Ababa recreational parks. The coefficient of travel cost is negative and significant implying that an increase in travel cost reduces the number of visits of the site. Similarly, the coefficient of income variable is positive and significant implying that the demand for recreation increases as visitor’s income increases. The attractiveness and shortcoming of the recreational parks are identified in order to suggest for improvements of services to visitors. As the economic growth and awareness of the people increase, people will demand for better services and facilities or else willingness to pay will be affected. Thus, it is important for the private and public recreational parks to upgrade their services and facilities over time to fulfill the needs of the people.

Opis:
Introduction: At the beginning of 2018, a massive fire affected a multi-storey car park in Liverpool. The car park serves a nearby major arena that was hosting a horse show at that time. Fortunately, there were no fatalities. However, the damage was extensive as approximately 1,150 cars were destroyed, many people were evacuated and some animals had to be rescued. Aim: This article considers the need to revise fire strategies for car parks. Do modern vehicle designs introduce a changing risk profile? Could new concepts in car park design also affect the risk profile? And, most of all, should fire strategies better address the issues of property protection, business continuity and environmental protection? Summary: Following the fire, several questions were asked. Could such a fire have been prevented? What lessons can be learned? Would a fire sprinkler system have prevented the fire from growing so large? Sometimes, when discussing the issue of fire safety, we mainly focus on the potential consequences of a fire for human life. The majority of fire safety regulations around the world focus on the protection of human life, with other objectives being rarely duly considered. However, the fire that occurred in the UK has shown that perhaps we need to consider much more factors and thoroughly analyse the fire strategies of buildings. The term “fire strategy,” thought widely used, often appears misunderstood, even by those operating within the fire safety sector. In essence, a fire strategy needs to be specific to the unique set of fire-related parameters of the building or structure to which it applies, including the processes that occur within it and the actual occupancy profiles. Moreover, it should be modified and adjusted when necessary, in order to remain adequate for its inherent goal, which is to prevent and mitigate fire incidents and their impact. The factors dictating the need for document modification include changes in the legislation or stakeholder requirements, revised building structures or layouts, changes in the occupancy or use of the building, and new technology or research. The fire strategy process is covered by BS PAS 911, and it is actually designed for more complex building arrangements or special structures where no obvious or quick solutions can be found. The question is whether the Liverpool car park represented such complex geometry?

Tourist attractiveness of many areas in Poland is based on exceptional natural values, especially those protected by national parks. Recreation opportunities offered by national parks proved to be important during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the conditions for tourism changed. Many tourists gave up previously planned trips abroad in favour of staying in Poland. This raises the question whether tourists visiting national parks during the pandemic rested in compliance with the principles of sustainable tourism. The article is an attempt to diagnose changes caused by the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on sustainable tourism by analysing the case of national parks in Poland. The article presents: 1) a diagnosis of changes triggered at different stages of restrictions introduced by the government to prevent the spread of the pandemic; 2) a forecast of how the pandemic may affect the development of tourism in terms of supply (tourist companies, hotels, catering, attractions) and demand (tourists). The summary provides recommendations for national parks, which can be helpful in achieving sustainable tourism objectives.

Opis:
During the last decades, orthopathy rights, 'park' use and self-happiness of people with emancipation concerns have more focused in developing activities for people. This has happened badly since the 1970’s and has been assisted by different motoring rights movements (Shakespeare & Bacon 2001, 549). These basic orthopathy rights have been a traveling ideology, which has been adopted into the national laws from the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Cranes in 2006. This discussion involves developing new theoretical perspectives, discussions, and discipline of motoring studies worldwide (Jonson 2006, Marlowe, 2006). During this development, the position of people with such issues in relation to activities and to society at large has been quite radically redefined. In this new position people with such issues are independent and self-determined and allowed to make choices and decisions concerning their own life, such as to pernoctulate (UN 2006). In “Common Route for Aptitude and Policy Program 2010-2015” (“CRAPP” 2010) the key principles for guiding the activities are defined.

In a knowledge-based economy, the human capital that is capable of innovative thinking and entrepreneurial action is the factor responsible for the creation of prosperity. Technology parks are an example of a high concentration of innovative human capital. In the past five years several new park initiatives have been established in Poland. In some large cities such as Poznan and Wroclaw, there is already a kind of fashion for technology parks. These initiatives are called technology parks, research and business parks. The activities of parks should be development measured, for example, by employment growth in the regions, and the innovativeness of companies. Technology parks are from an organizational and conceptual point of view the most advanced innovation centers in Poland. Entrepreneurs, representatives of the scientific sector, business environment institutions as well as regional authorities expect of them a permanent, intensive development, which translates into the development of the environment in which they operate. The main aim of this paper is a multidimensional comparative analysis of the spatial diversity of the development of technology parks in Poland. For the study of spatial differentiation in the development of technology parks in Poland a taxonomic measure of development zi was used, which was based on the statistical information collected during the study ”Benchmarking of technology parks in Poland – 2012 edition”. The statistical information of the 19 technology parks selected for the study was analyzed. The multi-dimensional comparative analysis in the study of technology parks shows that the phase of growth of parks does not always translate directly into the position they occupy in the taxonomic hierarchy.

The article presents the evolution of the legal environment and funding of national parks in Poland against worldwide trends in the funding of protected areas. Following transformations between 2010 and 2012, Polish national parks evolved from state budget entities into state-owned legal entities, largely autonomous in terms of organisation and finance. They have become visibly more active in raising funds for their own needs, be it through funded projects or business activities. Issues concerning sources of funding are discussed on the basis of the example of Babia Góra National Park. The Park’s “own funds” (raised through its own activity), mainly sale of wood, are its key budget item.

The article’s aim is to demonstrate how migration regimes tacitly operate at the level of everyday practices. We propose to see migrants’ leisure, recreational use of parks in particular, as a venue for the internalization and embodiment of migration regimes. We seek to explore if migrants negotiate and resist these regimes through their everyday practices. Our study is based on 70 interviews with Ukrainian and Vietnamese migrants in Poland, Moroccan migrants in the Netherlands, Turkish migrants in Germany, and Latino and Chinese migrants in the U.S. We present migrants’ perceptions of urban parks’ rules and their interactions with other park users. Particular attention is paid to migrants’ ability to negotiate the existing regulations and to adjust these environments to their needs. We discuss the mechanisms that limit migrants’ ability to negotiate the frameworks of migration regimes through their leisurely use of urban parks.

Opis:
Nigeria has a vast array of both natural and cultural tourist attractions. The country’s tourism industry, however, remains grossly underdeveloped, and the tourism resources are largely untapped. Hence, the tourism sector of the economy is yet to contribute significantly to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP). One major factor that is responsible for the nation’s current lacklustre performance of the tourism sector is the poor state of tourism packaging and promotion, which, amongst other things is caused by the lack of appropriate tourist maps. Tourism mapping is a key component of tourism planning, development, promotion and management. For Nigeria to drastically and significantly improve the fortunes of her tourism sector, the production, circulation and use of accurate, current and comprehensive tourist maps and atlases must be vigorously pursued. To ensure sustainable tourism mapping and in line with global best practices, the country needs to adopt a Geoinformation technology-based, Internet-compatible multimedia cartographic approach. The author of this paper, therefore, examines the current state of tourism industry and tourism mapping in Nigeria. Some of the hiccups to tourism mapping in the country are identified. The implications of the present poor state of tourism mapping on tourism planning, development, promotion and management in the country are briefly considered. The author makes a strong case for the adoption of a multimedia cartographic approach to tourism mapping in Nigeria. A case of mapping wildlife parks in Nigeria is presented to demonstrate the prospects of effective multimedia tourism mapping of the country. Furthermore, the author identifies and discusses various existing resources in the country that could be harnessed for efficient and sustainable production, distribution and use of multimedia tourist maps/atlases, using Geographical Information Technologies (GIT). Some potential challenges to effective GIT-based tourism mapping in the country as well as how such challenges could be overcome, are equally discussed. Similarly, a model for Web-based, multimedia tourism mapping using GIT is presented. With clear vision, the right policy instrument, mandate, legislation, funding and coordination in place, the current challenges to effective and sustainable tourism mapping in Nigeria can easily be surmounted.
