The research study focuses on verification of the relationship between individual components of parenting and pubescent self-concept. The aim is also to examine gender differences in perceived parenting and self-concept in pubescent youth. It is a correlation-comparative study with the research sample consisting of 119 pubescent youth aged 11–15. Research tools: the Parenting Style Questionnaire (Čáp & Boschek) and the Piers-Harris Children’s and Adolescents’ Self-Concept Scale 2. Research results allow for stating that perceived parenting significantly correlates with pubescent self-concept. Gender differences in perceived parenting appear only in mothers, in the negative emotional component and in the component of demands, with girls scoring significantly higher. A gender difference in favour of boys can be stated in the overall pubescent self-concept.

The aim of this research was to investigate the opinions of parents at different stages of parenthood, about the myths of authoritarian parenting and gender stereotypes in parenting in the context of their own upbringing and social expectations. Considering the influence of one’s own parents, the way of growing up and the influence of wider society and social norms, the initial assumption of the research was that the way of growing up, as a family factor and social norms, as a social factor, define parents’ opinions on myths about authoritarian parenting and gender stereotypes in parenting. Twelve respondents participated in the research; a qualitative method of semi-structured interview was used. The results of the research showed that family factors,  such as the way of growing up and the parenting style, but also social factors such as the social environment and media, influence parents’ opinions of myths about authoritarian parenting and gender stereotypes in parenting. Also, it was found that parents differ in their opinions on the myths about authoritarian parenting and gender stereotypes in parenting, depending on the stage of parenthood they are currently in.

There is no doubt that migration, especially when involving whole family units, posits a range of challenges, dilemmas and problems. Thus, raising a child while adapting to a new sociocultural environment can turn out to be a particularly demanding task. Drawing on the findings of longitudinal, qualitative research among 10 families of Russian and Ukrainian origin living in the Czech Republic, the paper discusses the concept of parenting with a special emphasis on the issue of education. An important circumstance is the fact that the research sample consists of parents with tertiary education. The paper aims to describe and analyse the way in which parents understand upbringing and education, and what their beliefs and subsequent behaviours in this area are based on. Much attention is focused on uncovering how the ideological and practical dimensions of parental concern interact with the post-migration experience and processes associated with it. The empirical part, based on qualitative analysis inspired by grounded theory research design, depicts the issue as a very complex area of diverse and sometimes contradictory tendencies that dynamically combines deeply- rooted parenting patterns with pragmatic responses to current conditions.

This research aims to explore the associations of maternal anxiously attached feelings towards the child, parenting stress, and negative parenting among Chinese mothers with school-aged children. 105 Chinese mothers participated in it. The study utilized the modified anxious attachment subscale in Experiences in Close Relationships Scale, the Parenting Stress Index, and the subscale of authoritarian parenting in The Short Version of Parenting Style and Dimension Questionnaire. It found that parenting stress played a mediator role in the relationship between parents’ anxiously attached feelings towards a child and negative parenting. These results highlight the importance of intervention programs aiming for parenting stress management.

The study presents conclusions of research on perceived parenting styles and attachment of adolescents attending Slovak state schools. The study aimed to investigate whether the emotional relationship with the child and work with behavioural boundaries that are the basis of parents’ parenting style relate to the degree of adolescents’ attachment. The theoretical background of the research problem was based on the theory of attachment and the theory of parenting styles. The research sample consisted of 1011 adolescents aged 10 to 15 (mean age 12.75 years, standard deviation 1.483) from all Slovak regions. Data were collected using the Parenting Style Questionnaire and the revised version of The Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment. We assumed that the degree of adolescents’ attachment strongly relates to their perception of their parents’ parenting styles. The results were significant and indicated that the character of parenting affects the perception of the closeness of the relationship between adolescents and their parents.

According to Erik H. Erikson parental committal to children’s development is one of the most important developmental task in the medium adulthood. In this stage society requires the person to play the role of a productive and contributing member of society. On the other hand variety of changes in adolescence and their peculiar cause that relationship between parents and adolescents is problematical, so parents’ generativity is a potential that has a positive impact on the progress of the child’s ontogenetic changes. It is also a manifestation of correctly progressing development of adults. Specific actions undertaken by parents, revealing their generativity, are related with showing interests, emotional and cognitive support of a child, accepting his increasing independence and offering help in new, difficult situations associated with physiological puberty and social maturation. Seeking methods supporting the development of adolescent children, adequate to their developmental needs, evokes developmental potential of parents. Taking into consideration the dual aspect underlying the generative activity, the following dimensions of parental generativity revealed towards adolescent children have been determined: interest, active help, consent and sense of creativity. The article shall present an original take on parental generativity and the process of constructing the Parental Generativity Scale.

While acknowledging some of the myriad ways in which the term "dreamwork" has been used by scholars over the past century, this article directs especial attention to dreamwork as both a facet of motherwork and form of anticipatory socialization. This particular conception views dreamwork as an interpersonal accomplishment and emphasizes its collaborative character. In arguing for its utility, we note how this conception of dreamwork complements insights found in other works and suggest how these ideas might be related, and future research on parental involvement in the lives of children strengthened, by gathering them together under the concept of dreamwork.

Opis:
Today, parents make use of social media accounts for many different purposes, such as obtaining information, giving advice, receiving support, and exchanging ideas with other parents. In parallel with the use of social media, according to their parenting roles, individuals frequently share various content related to both their own daily practices and the development processes of their children. The fact that most of the content shared is about children raises the question of digital privacy in this context. Based on this focus, this research aims to determine the priorities attached by the parents when they share content about children on their social media accounts, and what kind of measures they take in sharing this content to protect the digital privacy of their children. Therefore, a questionnaire based quantitative field study was carried out within the scope of this research. As a result of the study, it was found that parents primarily prefer sharing special occasions with their children, family photographs and photographs of their children at early ages; if the child is at a later age, they tend to consult him/her before sharing the content, but they do not tend to pay enough attention to ensuring that the child's identity is kept confidential and sharing of personal information is avoided.

Sharenting, as a phenomenon involving parents sharing their child's image on social media, is becoming increasingly prevalent in Poland and around the world. More and more children have their first digital footprint before birth or before turning 6 months old. Many parents see no harm in showcasing the image and data related to their child on the internet. In this context, it is important to draw attention to the potential consequences and threats associated with publicizing photos and posts related to children. This article attempts to present the phenomenon of sharenting among Polish parents and the potential risks associated with it. It is based on research conducted in 2023 on a sample of 80 posts shared by parents on Instagram and Facebook, as well as an analysis of available research results on sharenting and the resulting threats. In the article, by showcasing various aspects of a child's life and functioning displayed on social media by Polish parents, we aim to indicate how sharing a child's image can pose a threat to their physical and psychological well-being.

Many second-generation Vietnamese immigrant children in the Czech Republic are brought up by Czech nannies. While their parents are incorporated into the labour market in order to provide their children with suffi cient economic capital for their education, the role of caregivers is relinquished to nannies. Both parents and nannies become important actors in the children’s educational process, from the stage of acquiring fi rst words, through primary school, to the moment they are admitted into university. This paper analyses the roles of parents and nannies in this educational process. It draws upon 60 interviews conducted with fi rst-generation immigrant mothers, second-generation immigrants, and Czech nannies. The perspective of all three actors are presented here in order to reveal the interviewee’s understanding of the role of education in the parent-child and nanny-child relationships. How is education manifested in the defi nitions of parenting and caregiving? The paper illuminates the educational strategies taking place outside the educational institution as being an inherent part of everyday life. Simultaneously, the article reveals the meanings of education for the immigrant families as being linked both to past experience and future expectations.

The content of this paper is a report on activities in children’s facilities and their ability to influence parenting skills in terms of institutional childcare at an early age. Children’s facilities (infant homes, children’s homes and children’s centres) provide comprehensive care for children and parents in cases where, for various reasons, a child’s all-round development is disrupted or their life is in danger. The main purpose of these facilities is to provide adequate childcare as well as to support families when restoring basic functions. On the basis of a survey conducted in children’s facilities, the most frequent difficulties in exercising parenting skills are identified, and subsequently, information on the extent to which children’s facilities contribute to the development of parenting skills and help in the rehabilitation of a family is outlined.

Opis:
There is a great deal of literature regarding the differences between motherhood and fatherhood. The literature suggests that parenthood is deeply gendered and takes on different meanings for men and for women. This paper examines parenthood from an angle not typically addressed in feminist discussion. Missing from recent scholarship is any in-depth examination of the role that women may play in limiting the involvement of their male partners. What part do women play in the maintenance of traditional parenting roles? This paper, based on a series of interviews with parents of young children as well as field research in child centered locations, concentrates on the reasons behind the emergence of gendered parenting approaches. The qualitative nature of this study makes it possible to note the complexity of this issue and examine the role of both mother and father in gatekeeping. Overall, I argue that many mothers are involved in maternal gatekeeping through taking control over both major and minor parenting decisions, through controlling access to parenting information and through implementing control mechanisms during their absence. I discuss the means by which some mothers attempt to limit their partners’ involvement and the ambivalence that this creates for both parents involved.

This paper will present an empirically based analysis of parenting in order to critically examine the work of two major social capital theorists. The work of James S. Coleman and Pierre Bourdieu is much cited, but while both focus on the links between individuals, families and wider social structures, their theories are based on very different interpretations of social capital and its implications. Drawing on qualitative data from a UK based qualitative study of parenting resources this paper will critically assess each theory using case studies. We argue that these two approaches allude to different social resources, with Coleman’s work representing the tightly bonded solidarities more often found among working class communities, while Bourdieu focuses on the more diffuse, instrumental networking most associated with the middle classes.
