Opis:
In the years 2008-2011, the study on the surface and subsurface water runoff from the forested loess slope was carried out to determine the concentrations of selected chemical indicators of water quality, soil suspension and loss of the pure matter component. The maximum tested concentrations of water quality indicators were low and amounted to: 1.841 mg‧dm-3 N-Nog, 0.943 mg‧dm-3 N-NH4, 0.478 mg‧dm-3 N-NO3, 0.213 mg‧dm-3 N-NO2, 0.423 mg‧dm-3 P, 1.621 mg‧dm-3 K. The masses of the eroded matter constituents were low and amounted to: 0.808 kg‧ha-1 N, 0.157 kg‧ha-1 P, 0.142 kg‧ha-1 K and 2.989 kg‧ha-1 soil. The parameters of erosive precipitation and water outflow were statistically significantly correlated with the concentration of soil suspended matter and losses of the analyzed components of matter, as well as negligible concentration of chemical indicators of water quality. Afforestation of the loess slopes threatened by erosion is a treatment that effectively protects the soil against water erosion.

Introduction: The hemodialysis treatment requires an outflow vein from an arterio-venous fistula which is easily accessible and suitable for multiple venepunctures. The growing number of elderly patients, overweight ones and such with diabetes mellitus has been leading to increased relative share of the primary cubital anastomoses. Material and methods: The data set comprises of 442 arterio-venous anastomoses performed within a 5-year period (from 1st July 2011 until 30th June 2016) in the Clinic of Nephrology and Dialysis at Medical University, Pleven, Bulgaria. The primary cubital fistulas are 311 (70 %) of all cases. Consecutive superficialization of the outflow vein is performed in 18 cases (6 %). Results: Not a single case of complications has been recorded – neither during the intervention, nor during the usage of the fistula afterwards. One-year patency of the fistula is observed in 17 patients (94 %). The surgery has been successful (comfortable access for puncture area) in 17 cases (94 %). Conclusion: Our experience demonstrates that the planned superficialization of the outflow vein(s) is beneficial and highly advisable. The latter improves the hospital treatment quality of the hemodialysis patients.

Opis:
This paper presents the concept of the emigration region that emerged as a result of wide research identifying the causes of emigration and migration networks, as well as the demographic and socio-economic consequences of significant emigration for particular regions. It is an overview based on long-standing research by the authors and draws heavily on numerous contributions that address the links between regional development and long-term migration outflow. The hypothesis is that an emigration region is formed under the influence of long-term and mass emigration resulting in progressive depopulation and characterised by a set of economic, social and cultural features clearly distinguishing it from regions where such a pattern of relationships is either missing or incidental. Identified features of emigration regions include a well-established tradition of emigration, the long-term nature of emigration, a significant quantitative dimension of emigration, well-developed networks of social relationships between the countries of outflow and inflow, the complex socio-political and economic reasons for emigration and the specific consequences of it, observed both at the individual (micro) level and at the level of local and regional communities (the meso level). The concept of an emigration region is illustrated by the example of the Opolskie Voivodeship (Poland, a NUTS-2 region). The concept of an emigration region emerged as a result of many years of research by the authors, implemented mainly in the Opolskie Voivodeship. The research methods were diverse (including quantitative and qualitative social research) and the research was conducted among the entities involved to varying degrees in broadly understood migration processes (emigrants, re-emigrants, regional and local governments, entrepreneurs).

This paper aims to analyze the variability of the surface and ground water levels in Ambona peatlands. The depth at which the ground water table occurred was studied with reference to the adopted land drainage standards. The studies were carried out in 2009/10–2015/16 for natural and regulated water outflows. The analysis of annual total precipitation suggests that in the analyzed period some years were very wet (2009/10 and 2013/14), some were wet (2010/11, 2012/13 and 2015/16), one year was dry (2014/15) and one year was normal (2011/12). The 7-year average seasonal precipitation amounted to 598 mm, which was 71 mm higher than the average precipitation recorded in 30 years. The level of water in the river under adjustable outflow conditions ranged from 55 to 77 cm. The level of water under natural outflow ranged from 18 to 49 cm. In the area with adjustable outflow, the average draining depth was 47 cm. In the remaining area, not covered by the irrigation system, the draining depth was 64 cm. Additionally, the dynamics of variance in the water level under natural outflow conditions was clearly higher.

The paper presents the results of the estimation of the runoff formation during floods events in the upper Bóbr River basin, including its left-sided tributary the Kwisa River. The analysis was carried out on the basis of historical maximum freshets recorded at 15 gauging stations located on the streams and rivers in the investigated area in multiyear 1970–2004. For all standardized freshets the basic parameters were determined: reduced maximum discharge, duration times and volumes for wave phases, rising and falling and for total wave. On the basis of these parameters the regional relationships of maximum outflow were determined for the Bóbr River basin. The obtained results are satisfactory, most of the relationships proved strong correlations, confirmed by high values of determination coefficients. Determined regional relations between the waves’ parameters give a view on the course of flood events and the maximum outflow formation in the basin and can be useful in engineering issues in the studied region.

The aim of the study was to verify the possibility of the existence of preferential flow paths in a septic tank and the effect of using various types of inlet and outlet in this context. Two of the most unfavourable variants of privileged flow paths for different types of inlet and outlet were analysed. The first variant was related to the occurrence of the privileged flow path below the water surface level directly to the outlet and the second variant – to the socalled boiling phenomenon in a septic tank. During the study, the intensity of outflow from the septic tank was measured. The time between successive doses also was measured. These studies were carried out using several inlet and outlet structures combinations. It was observed that by introducing a suitable outlet it is possible to limit and in the case of the particular type of filtering basket – to eliminate the unwanted phenomenon of preferential flow paths after hot water introduction. The phenomenon of boiling in the septic tank may occur due to the introduction of wastewater of higher density containing a higher concentration of the suspension. The effect of cooler water introduction on this phenomenon was not observed. The limitation of the maximum intensity of outflow from the septic tank can be achieved by filtering basket using at the outlet, which increases the flow resistance thanks to the low porosity.

Opis:
Subject and purpose of work: The subject of the research is the Silesian Voivodeship, identified with the region which, almost until the end of the 20th century, was characterized by a positive balance of population migration in interregional flows. Since 1999, it has become a runoff area. The aim of the article is to present the size of the links in terms of permanent migration of the Silesian region population with other voivodeships and the resulting demographic losses that this region has suffered over 20 years. Materials and methods: The research method is reduced to the analysis of data on the migration of people to and from the Silesian region in 1999-2018 with the use of statistical methods. The basic source of data that formed the basis for the analysis of inter-voivodeship population flows were the numbers included in the Demographic Yearbooks 2000-2019. Results: The demographic processes taking place over 20 years caused a decrease in the region’s population by 251,934, of which 60,956 were inter-voivodeship flows, 97,059 for a negative increase, 93,919 for a negative foreign balance. Conclusions: From the analysis of population flows between the Silesian region and the rest of the country, the following correlations can be seen: − in the analyzed period of research, the attractiveness of settlement in the Silesian region decreased, − the Silesian region showed the strongest migration ties with its immediate surroundings, which would be in line with Ravenstein’s law, − the ties between the population of the Silesian region and voivodeships with a higher level of development, especially in the outflow, are tightening, and it is weakening with underdeveloped regions, − the migration efficiency of the population of the Silesia region was the lower, the higher level of development was represented by a given group of voivodeships.

In the majority of large cities in Poland there is a migration outflow, resulting mainly from suburbanisation processes. However, it should be noted that the inhabitants of large cities do not move exclusively to the suburban zone. The study below focuses on the migratory outflow of Wrocław residents. The authors characterise it by presenting the directions of population movements and determining their sustainability. The authors conclude that the target area of immigrants from Wrocław is mostly a suburban area, but there are also permanent migration flows to other rural communities in the voivodeship and other large cities in the country. The area of emigration itself goes beyond the scope of the voivodeship of which Wrocław is the capital.

In the Labour Force Survey (LFS) the interviewees are considered as employed, unemployed or professionally inactive based on “objective” criteria defined in the survey’s methodological assumptions (e.g. the fact that a person is seeking employment, waiting to start work or worked at least one hour in the reference week). In use since 1992, the above approach allows the classification to be unaffected by the respondents’ subjective feelings. Since 2006, LFS respondents have been also allowed to identify their economic activity status by themselves. The objective of this paper is to indicate and attempt to explain the differences between the results based on the identification of economic activity statuses as per the criteria adopted by the Central Statistical Office and the LFS respondents’ own assessment of their economic activity status. This paper assessed the rationale behind each approach and the implications thereof for the procedure and results of unemployment surveys from a static and dynamic perspective.

Opis:
The study covered water resources of two mountain streams in the Polish Carpathians. These were the Biała Woda and Czarna Woda streams, the catchments of which are adjacent to each other. Water flows in both streams were measured during the hydrological years from 2006 to 2020. Next, water outflows from the catchments were calculated. The study aimed to determine differences in the water resources of those catchments in a very small mountainous area. The study showed quantitative similarity in water resources in the entire multi-annual period but at the same time large differences in shorter periods. Instantaneous and daily outflows showed the largest differences, but differences in annual outflows of up to 20% were also recorded. Therefore, hydrological data from operational cross-sections to assess water resources of neighbouring uncontrolled watercourses should cover multi-annual mean values. It was found that during periods of increased runoff (from melting snow or precipitation), the outflow from the Biała Woda catchment was much larger, while during rain-free periods, the outflow from the Czarna Woda catchment prevailed. All short-term flood like outflows were at least several tens of per cent higher in the Biała Woda catchment. The higher retention capacity of the Czarna Woda catchment can be attributed to the land use (mainly forest areas). The results can be used for modelling catchments of similar parameters and determining their retention capacity.
