Opis:
Sustainability assessment is one of the basic issues in the agenda of public authorities and it requires practical tools to measure performance in terms of sustainable development goals. Most studies in literature deal with only one dimension of the problem of environmental components of sustainability. These studies discuss entities at only one level (cities, buildings, etc.), and one layer (green, smart, etc.) in selected dimensions. The literature includes no models that claim to provide an integrated assessment of entities’ performance in the 3D Cartesian system. The presently available models do not offer solutions that would be applicable in practice. SIMURG (A performance-based and Sustainability-Oriented Integration Model Using Relational database architecture to increase Global competitiveness of construction industry) proposes using layers and their KPI sets in the assessment process. In addition to philosophical, organisational, integrational, and computational models, this study aims to develop a lean architecture of a relational database model by eliminating ineffective solutions in the practical dimension, i.e. in the computer model. The model can be used by individuals to help them choose built environment whose characteristics match their expectations. Public authorities can utilise the model to increase the level of accountability, transparency, and legitimacy in their decision-making processes.

Introduction and objective. The healthcare system is positioned in the patient’s environment and works with other determinants of the treatment. Patient care requires a whole system compatible to the needs of organizational and technical solutions. The purpose of this study is to present a new model of patient-oriented care, in which the use of information and communication technology (ICT) can improve the effectiveness of healthcare for patients with chronic diseases. Material and methods. The study material is the process of healthcare for chronically ill patients. Knowledge of the circumstances surrounding ecosystem and of the patients’ needs, taking into account the fundamental healthcare goals allows us to build a new models of care, starting with the economic assumptions. The method used is modeling the construction of efficient healthcare system with the patient-centered model using ICT tools. Results. We present a new systemic concept of building patient’s environment in which he is the central figure of the healthcare organization – so called patient centered system. The use of ICT in the model of chronic patient’s healthcare can improve the effectiveness of this kind of care. The concept is a vision to making wide platform of information management in chronic disease in a real environment ecosystem of patient using ICT tools. Conclusions. On the basis of a systematic approach to the model of chronic disease, and the knowledge of the patient itself, a model of the ecosystem impacts and interactions through information feedback and the provision of services can be constructed. ICT assisted techniques will increase the effectiveness of patient care, in which nowadays information exchange plays a key role.

Business Model Innovation Organizational Renewal
Industry Transformation
Opis:
With the new millennium and the hype of electronic business a new movement was created that still gains momentum: business model innovations. Deeply influenced by business informatics in the early years, business models and business model innovations became a pervasive part of our business life. Particularly business model innovations opened the door for a thinking far beyond product and process innovations. By considering new ways of designing value propositions, value-added architectures and sales modes (e.g. Timmers, 1998), business model innovations became an attractive option of recent innovation management and strategic management of the entrepreneurial kind as well. Especially small- and medium-sized entities (SMEs) found a new way to innovate without spending too much resources in uncertain investments. Once successfully implemented, business model innovations on the micro level drive organizational renewal and/or help in developing new businesses. More than that, business model innovations may change the ‘rules of the game’ in markets and trigger processes of industry transformation (Porter & Rivkin, 2000) on the macro level. Despite the considerable power of business model innovations, not every innovative business model is a ‘home-run’. Empirical evidence suggests (e.g. Freiling & Dressel, 2014) that sophisticated new business models promise ‘win-win’ constellations for both customers and suppliers, but face the problem of limited adoption in target markets. Insofar, the implementation goes along with numerous obstacles. Little is said about the root causes of these obstacles and the ways how to cope with these challenges. Many of the articles of this special issue address the background of business model innovations and open the door to new debates. This illuminates the rather inter-disciplinary nature of business model innovations that deal with different kinds of novelties for both suppliers and customers. Based on Schumpeter (1934), innovations may relate to products, processes, organizational modes as well as novel purchasing and distribution modes. These novelties are often interrelated and call for an over-arching frame. If well designed, business models can be such umbrellas and are, thus, useful elements of innovation and strategic management. More than that, they push forward the notion of systemic innovation as a core challenge for both strategic decision-making and innovation. The papers deal with both customers and suppliers, as innovation cannot be separated from adoption processes in markets. In this regard, some former background issues come to the fore in this special issue, such as the still under-researched role of emotions (cf. Straker and Wrigley, 2015) and the role of diversity of people (particularly in the light of different cultural backgrounds – cf. Harima and Vemuri, 2015). Innovating business models is among the priorities of leading companies in most recent times to keep a certain balance of value creation and value capture (Teece, 2010; Zott et al. 2011). While business model innovations require particular capabilities to develop new industry architectures (Jacobides et al., 2006; Freiling et al., 2008), business model innovation is a challenge that often returns to top positions of the management agenda. To change from one business model to another, however, is a different and often even more demanding challenge that is based on dynamic capabilities (Teece, 2007). By dynamic capabilities companies are able to sense and seize new business opportunities and to reconfigure the company. The bare existence of dynamic capabilities allows changing business models more proficiently and, thus, tapping the potential of new business opportunities (Müller and Vorbach, 2015). However, while business model innovations have played a role in the entire economy in recent years, there are contexts where these innovative moves find a very fertile background. Without necessarily excluding other companies, particularly young firms seem to belong to these settings. Insofar, entrepreneurship and business model innovations are closely linked. One reason for this may be that incumbents are locked in their everyday business, reinforced by specific investments, and do not find enough time to go substantially beyond that. Thus, they are prone to attacks based on innovative business models of start-ups that are in need of doing something new and different to start launching their solutions in target markets. Entrepreneurship practice is full of examples where new ventures translated a basic innovation into a business model innovation to ‘make’ a market (e.g. Facebook, Amazon, Cirque du Soleil). The multitude of different ventures is hard to describe exhaustively, if it is possible at all. In this regard, it makes a difference whether the ventures are profit-oriented or non-profit ones. Papers of this special issue deal especially with this question (Jokela and Elo, 2015; Balboni and Bortoluzzi, 2015). On a more pragmatic level, the question arises how to visualize the real nature of business models and how to plan and implement them. In literature, there is a huge variety of understandings – like Timmers’ (1998) model of three business model components, the Morris et al. (2005) six-element approach or the nine-component ‘business model canvas’ framework of Osterwalder and Pigneur (2010). In this special issue, many articles adopted the more fine- grained business model canvas approach that already penetrated business practice to some extent.

This study aims to create a simulation model with which to analyse the spread of emotional states among the employees of an organization. The model takes into account the fact that workers are influenced by their co-workers and supervisors, and simultaneously analyses these interactions. The design of the simulation model follows a standard procedure: problem definition, data collection and configuration of model parameters, conceptual model, testing of the programmed model, and analysis of the results of the simulation. The resulting simulation model makes a novel contribution to the literature by providing social sciences researchers with a simple and efficient method of analysing the evolution and propagation of emotional states during an organizational change. This kind of approach is useful for research involving the simultaneous study of interaction between a number of employees.
Powstały model symulacyjny wnosi nowatorski wkład do literatury, zapewniając badaczom nauk społecznych prostą i skuteczną metodę analizy ewolucji i propagacji stanów emocjonalnych podczas zmiany organizacyjnej. Takie podejście jest przydatne w badaniach polegających na jednoczesnym badaniu interakcji między wieloma pracownikami.

The aim of the article is to present the author’s proposition of typology of organizational network models. The considerations were based on the analysis of the literature on the subject of the described organizational network models and their typology, and the main part of the article is a proposal of the typology of organizational network models. The starting point was the assumption that typologies play an important role in building theory, and the concept of network is ambiguously defined and described in network theory. The multitude of features and parameters describing organizational networks indicates a large diversity of their models. The article reviews the criteria for the division and types of organizational networks in light of the literature on the subject, and presents the characteristics of organizational network models by their origin, the main mechanism explaining the functioning of the network, the method of network coordination, and the author’s typology of organizational network models due to the criterion nature and complexity of relationships appearing in them.
Opracowana typologia wskazuje na cztery główne kategorie modeli sieci organizacyjnych: sieci biznesowe, sieci franczyzowe i agencyjne, sieci publiczne i współczesne modele sieci złożonych.

Higher education institutions (HEIs) play a significant role in modern economies, and it is worthwhile to analyze the factors that affect their effectiveness. To our knowledge, few studies have focused on the attitudes of students in Poland to their work environment. The purpose of this paper is to present differences in the perception of current and desired organizational culture in public and non-public HEIs in Poland from the perspective of students. A synthetic review of the literature on organizational culture at HEIs was conducted and presented. Research in the form of a survey based on Cameron and Quinn’s model was conducted in two public and two non-public HEIs in Poland. A sample of opinions of 402 students was gathered and analyzed. According to students from public and non-public schools alike the present culture was clan culture. Both groups also pointed at clan culture as the desired one, with adhocracy culture following closely. The findings may be useful for higher education decision makers in their attempts to create an effective working environment at HEIs. A further, more comprehensive research into the subject will be worth conducting.

The necessity of deep democratization of state influence on the system of social education has been analyzed. The reasons for contradictions between the development needs of the new educational system and the existing administrative practice have been revealed. The paper indicates the need for state structural and functional compliance, the education system and its partners on the part of civil society and the market. Purpose: Our task is to identify the role of agents of the external and internal educational environment, which are participants in the decentralization of state influence on the education system. The author focuses on the peculiarities of students as the main client, payer and consumer of education services. Organizational interaction is fully executed only if there is a constant feedback in the management of the education system, which can be provided by civil society and its government bodies involved in the management of the education system. Methods: To characterize the main provisions we take into account the interdisciplinary approach and the general scientific principles of objectivity and systematicity as well as logical-semantic, systemic and prognostic approaches in studying and generalizing the problem. Results. The study reveals contradictions between the needs for developing a new education system and existing administrative practices. Democratization is seen as a mechanism to weaken the state's influence on the development of university autonomy.

The present study investigated how triarchic psychopathy domains are related to self-rated organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) and whether job attitudes, such as job satisfaction and affective commitment, mediate these relationships. Results from a sample of 434 employees indicated that OCB was positively correlated with boldness, negatively with meanness, and uncorrelated with disinhibition. Structural equation modeling (SEM) demonstrated that job satisfaction and affective commitment were positively predicted by boldness and negatively by meanness. In addition, disinhibition positively predicted affective commitment. With regard to job attitudes–OCB associations, only affective commitment significantly positively predicted OCB, suggesting its mediating role in the relationships between psychopathy dimensions and OCB. These findings contribute to the literature on the underpinnings of behavioral manifestations of psychopathy in the organizational context by proposing the potential attitudinal mechanism underlying the relationships between triarchic psychopathy domains and OCB.

The paper concerns the model of aspects of ethical competencies of human capital development in information systems in a transition economy, on the Polish labor market. The purpose of the research is to verify the association of Human Potentiality (HP) and Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) among 263 IT users in relation to their professional position, in Poland. The authors used two new questionnaires in Polish studies: the Human Potentiality Inventory in achieving career goals (HPI) and an adapted Employee Behavior Questionnaire (EBQ). The authors estimated the levels of HP and the manifestation of OCB of IT users in relation to their professional position. Applying and popularizing the ideas of HP and OCB may have an effect on the development of staff’s ethical attitudes on the labor market, which increases commitment, efficiency and leads to economic growth. The research results complement the gap in the scientific literature that concerns the psychosocial characteristics of IT users such as Human Potentiality and sensitivity intelligence in terms of achieving career goals and ethical attitudes. The results show differences between bosses and subordinates and dependencies between the components of HP and OCB. The analysis is based on a random interpersonal network and sequence sampling with the passive optimal experiment design conducted among IT users for the first time in such a context in the Lower Silesia voivodship in Poland.
