Opis:
The paper raises the issue of optimizing the control of the rural low voltage microgrids. Microgrids can operate in a synchronous mode with grids of distribution system operators and in an island mode. We can distinguish two control strategies in microgrids: one approach based on centralized control logic, which is usually used, and another on decentralized control logic. In this paper we decided to present the approach based on the distributed control, combining the efforts of the distributed cooperative control and modified Monte Carlo optimization method. Special attention has been paid to the impact of the order of processing particular devices’ groups on results of optimization calculations. Moreover, different scenarios of behavior of the microgrid control system with respect to the communication loss have been also presented. The influence of the issue of continuity of communication between particular devices’ groups on the possibility of carrying out the optimization process has been investigated. Additionally, characteristics of power loads and generation of electricity from small renewable energy appearing in rural areas have been described and the sensitivity of the optimization algorithm to the changes of demanded power values and changes of values of power generated by renewable energy sources has been studied. We analyzed different objective functions which can be can be used as an optimization goal both in synchronous and island operation modes of microgrid. We decided to intensively test our approach on a sample rural LV microgrid, which is typical in the countryside. The observed results of the tests have been presented and analyzed in detail. Generally, results achieved with the use of proposed distributed control are the same as with the use of centralized control. We think that the approach based on distributed control is promising for practical applications, because of its advantages.

Opis:
The paper deal with devoting the problem of reliability prediction and modeling the functioning process of information and control systems (ICS), which are described by the Markov random process. The methodology of the study consist in considering ICS as Markov systems. Modeling the functioning process of information and control systems will increase authenticity and reliability of information from the ICS, as well as improve the efficiency of its work. As an example, the mathematical model of the functioning the computer system of the dispatch service is constructed in the paper. Mathematical modeling was conducted in the environment of MathCad. Mathematical modeling allows determining the average number of steps before system moves into the absorbing state. Taking into account the length of stay the system in each condition allows determining the average life of the system until the full failure. The development of model and technology for calculating the characteristics of stochastic systems allows investigating a wide class of such systems and determining optimal maintenance operation term in order to ensure reliability and reduce the waste on downtime.

Opis:
Due to the ever-increasing economic globalization, the scale of transportation through ports and waterways has increased sharply. As the capacity of maritime infrastructure in ports and inland waterways is limited, it is important to simulate vessel behavior to balance safety and capacity in restricted waterways. Currently many existing vessel simulation models focus mainly on vessel dynamics and maritime traffic in the open ocean. These models are, however, inapplicable to simulating vessel behavior in ports and inland waterways, because behavior in such areas can be influenced by many factors, such as waterway geometry, external conditions and human factors. To better simulate vessel behavior in ports and waterways, we developed a new maritime traffic model by adapting the theory of pedestrian models. This new model comprises two parts: the Route Choice Model and the Operational Model. The Route Choice Model has been demonstrated and calibrated in our recent study, in which the desired speed is generated. This paper presents the second part of the model, the Operational Model, which describes vessel behavior based on optimal control by using the output of the Route Choice Model. The calibration of the Operational Model is carried out as well. In the Operational Model, the main behavioral assumption is that all actions of the bridge team, such as accelerating and turning, are executed to force the vessel to sail with the desired speed and course. In the proposed theory, deviating from the desired speed and course, accelerating, decelerating and turning will provide disutility (cost) to the vessel. By predicting and minimizing this disutility, longitudinal acceleration and angular acceleration can be optimized. This way, the Operational Model can be used to predict the vessel speed and course. Automatic Identification System (AIS) data of unhindered vessel behavior in the Port of Rotterdam, the Netherlands, were used to calibrate the Operational Model. The calibration results produced plausible parameter values that minimized the objective function. The paths generated with these optimal parameters corresponded reasonably well to the actual paths.

There is presented the application of the integrated software tools to the operation and reliability of an exemplary complex technical system optimization. First using the computer program CP 8.9 there are determined the optimal limit transient probabilities of the exemplary system operation process at the particular operation states maximizing the system lifetime in the reliability states not worse than the critical reliability state and its optimal sojourn times at the particular operation states. Program CP 8.9 allows also for automatic evaluation of the exemplary system optimal unconditional multistate reliability function, the optimal expected values and standard deviations of its unconditional lifetimes in the reliability state subsets and the optimal mean values of its lifetimes in the particular reliability states. Moreover, in the case when the system is repairable, its optimal renewal and availability characteristics are obtained using the computer program CP 8.11.

Opis:
In railway timetabling and railway network design the question for the optimal timetable is a fundamental design decision. Whether a country benefits more from high-speed services or integrated network services strongly depends on its settlement structure. Lille’s law of travelling is applied giving an indication which solution is more suitable for different European countries. In most railway networks an integrated network-oriented timetable like the integrated periodic would maximize the customer’s benefit. Furthermore, it allows for long-term infrastructure design and timetable planning. For a network approach suburban and regional railway lines are of significant importance. Three case studies of regional railway networks in the Austrian province of Styria depict how the application of a periodic timetable increased patronage. In addition, feasibility studies are presented showing the further potential of introducing an integrated periodic timetable. However, integrated periodic timetables considerably may be affected by open access services as use-cases in Austria and the Czech Republic show. While open access operation usually improves the situation on long-distance relations, regional railway services might be negatively affected. These effects and a possible procedure for solving this issue are presented.

Opis:
The paper presents a model to coordinate the predictive-preventive maintenance process of Offshore Wind Farm (OWF) with optimal Vessel Fleet (VF) size support system. The model is presented as a bi-level problem. On the first level, the model coordinates the predictive-preventive maintenance of the OWF and the distributed Power System minimizing the risk of Expected Energy not Supply (EENS). The risk is estimated with a sequential Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) simulation model. On the second level the model determining the optimal fleet size of vessels to support maintenance activities at OWF.
