Opis:
Monetary policy and fiscal policy are the two important macroeconomic policies which are used to achieve certain major macroeconomic goals like economic growth, unemployment reduction, counteract inflation and overall economic development of the nation. The effect of macroeconomic variables may differ in terms of degree, duration, different economic systems and under different exchange rate regimes. This study analyses the effectiveness of monetary policy and fiscal policy on the economy in terms of economic integration and different exchange rate regimes. Regression analysis in this study found that the fiscal policy is more effective in a closed economy and monetary policy is more effective in an open economy. Also the study finds that the fiscal policy is more effective under managed float exchange rate regime and monetary policy is more effective under perfectly flexible exchange rate. So this study also validated Mundell− Fleming model.

Opis:
The goal of this paper is to analyse the economic development of Poland using the concept of macroeconomic policy regimes (MPRs). Six elements of a MPR will be identified: foreign economic policy, industrial policy, the financial system, wage policy, monetary policy and fiscal policy. Examining the functionality of the development of these elements applied to Poland is a further aim of this paper. The functionality of the development of the MPR elements will be analysed on the basis of the fulfilment of the objectives, as well as the use of the proposed instruments and strategy assigned to every element of MPR. Due to space limits, we are going to focus on the former in this paper. Taking into consideration that Poland is an emerging and a relatively open economy, foreign economic policy and industrial policy play very significant roles in restructuring of the economy towards production and exports of high value-added products, which would enable the country to follow a growth path consistent with an external balance. The financial needs of the manufacturing sector and particularly of the producers and/or exporters of high-end products need to be satisfied by the financial system, whose stability needs to be secured with the help of monetary policy. The latter is, moreover, in charge of providing low-cost finance and maintaining the stability of the exchange rate. Stabilising the inflation rate would be given to wage policy. Fiscal policy’s main tasks would be to correct aggregate demand shocks and reduce income inequality.

Opis:
National competitiveness is a buzzword that awakens much interest and controversy. In its broadest perspective, it is seen as a modern way of describing the development efforts of nations in the times of globalization (Reinert 2001, p. 23-42). This means that forces driving the changes in the global economy: liberalization of international trade, booming investment by multinational enterprises and development of regional integration groupings, need to be included into the competitiveness model. Well-known and commonly used approach to national competitiveness: Porter’s diamond of competitive advantage does not however capture this international context. By concentrating solely on the elements of the domestic environment, the model does not show the complicated international linkages that have shaped the competitiveness of many countries. Especially in the case of small, open ‘catching-up’ economies, assessing national competitiveness solely on the basis of the potential of domestic companies, based on local conditions, does not fully reflect their developmental context, which is also driven by the complex networks of international interdependencies. Building upon the generalized double diamond model developed by Moon et al. (2000), this paper explores the extent to which economic relations with international partners and the activities oftransnational corporations affect the competitiveness of the Visegrad Group countries, and how this relationship has been changing in the post-accession period. To answer the research problem posed, Eurostat and Global Competitiveness Report data have been gathered to assess the competitiveness variables on both the domestic/national and international levels. It has been shown that integration within the global economy constitutes an essential element of competitiveness for each of the analysed countries.

Opis:
The condition of a country’s balance of payments is a crucial factor for effective development in small open economies, such as Poland and Ukraine. Because of their dependence on the climate in international markets, Poland and Ukraine are especially vulnerable to fluctuations in the global situation. Thus it is essential for both national economies to develop effective instruments for adjusting their balance of payments accounts. This necessity in turn requires research into the main mechanisms used for making balance of payments adjustments for developing countries, since not all aspects have been yet explored. A comparative analysis of the balance of payments situations in these countries is conducted in this article, which aims to prove external similarities between both countries and explain why Poland has attained greater success in the process of overcoming the consequences of the global financial crisis. Such conclusions can be used as a roadmap for Ukraine on its way to adjustment of its balance of payments account. The main reason for such exploration is that Ukraine’s balance of payments is still operating in deficit conditions, which negatively affects the overall state of the national economy of the country.

This paper extends the growth model for a closed national economy by Zhang (2015) to a small-open economy. We attempt to explain some economic mechanisms of how the richest one per cent of the population own 50% of national wealth. We consider endogenous wealth and human capital accumulation by heterogeneous households with different preferences and learning abilities as the main determinants of growth and inequality. We describe the production technologies and economic structure on the basis of the Uzawa two-sector model. By applying Zhang’s concept of disposable income and approach to household behavior, we describe consumers’ wealth accumulation and consumption behavior. We model human capital accumulation on the basis of Arrow’s learning by doing and Zhang’s creativity with leisure. We simulate the model with three groups of the population, the rich 1 %, the middle 69%, and the poor 20%. We demonstrate the existence of an equilibrium point at which the rich 1% own more than half of the national wealth and the poor 20% less than 10% of the national wealth. We show how the system moves to the equilibrium from an initial state and confirm that the equilibrium point is stable. We also conduct comparative dynamic analysis.

Purpose – To study the concept of the balance of payments (BOP) as the main international financial statement of a nation, to identify the causes and effects of its imbalances and the factors of achieving external equilibrium for a national economy, as well. Methods – The theoretical and methodological research is based on systematic, structural and functional analysis, logical abstraction, induction, deduction, as well as comparative and statistical analysis. Approach – The theoretical justification of the relationship between key figures of the balance of payments and the main macroeconomic identities, the research of the balance of payments regulation tools aimed at achieving its steady state as a precondition for open economy equilibrium. Findings – The rationale for choosing the balance of payments regulation policy based on using some theories aimed at searching for an optimal balance or so-called equilibrium between the development of external and internal factors of the economy. Thus, the study has shown that the practical implementation of these theoretical concepts finds its application in various ways of equalizing the balance of payments. The constituent elements of these concepts are the forms of equalization, the level of regulation, the methods and tools of state regulation.

This paper investigates the relative importance of cost, demand, financial and monetary shocks in driving real exchange rates in four CEE countries over 2000–2018. A two-country New Keynesian open economy model is used as a theoretical framework. In the empirical part, a Bayesian SVAR model with Markov switching heteroscedasticity is employed. The structural shocks are identified on the basis of volatility changes and named with reference to the sign restrictions derived from the economic model. Main findings are fourfold. First, real and financial shocks have similar contributions to real exchange variability, whereas that of monetary shocks is small. Second, financial shocks amplify exchange rate fluctuations stemming from real shocks. Third, even though the exchange rate gaps change over time, they remain quite similar across CEE countries except for Slovakia. Fourth, Slovakia introduced the euro at the time of a relatively large real overvaluation, which subsided after a lengthy adjustment process.

The transition of the Kyrgyz economy to the market system required fundamental development of a series of new scientific and practical spheres. Privatization process, emergence of the stock market, development of insurance system, transfer of commercial banks to issuing loans in the security of property, all these facts form the necessity for a new service – the company valuation, determination of its market cost of capital. There are specific urgent questions of fundamental works’ transformation, related to this direction, into the practical angle and adaptation of existing theoretical elaborations in the field of company cost capital determination to the appraiser’s practical activity under the existing conditions of still forming professional services market. One of the issues of vital importance is an unsatisfied requirement in determination of market cost of capital of a company. In order to assess the value of the enterprise fairly, the author has defined the object of investigation, that is Open Joint Stock Company “Maili – Suu Electric Bulb Factory” – the largest in the Central Asian region factory, producing more than 100 types of electric incandescent lamp for premises.Basing upon a series of preliminary studies and analyzes, the author hasconcluded that, the most acceptable way in enterprise valuation is cost-based approach. As experiences have shown, enterprise valuation methods based upon on cost of property, currently implemented in our country, are not perfect, because they actually assess the cost of property’s formation. Investor is primarily concerned with future earnings rather than the necessary cost of object formation, although the estimation of business enterprises only on the basis of future earnings may also be incorrect. Consequently, it is quite understandable the kind of necessities to assess business enterprise on the basis of multilateral integrated approach: with relation to cost for building creating, its future profitability and capital sales prices of similar businesses in the market.

The paper discusses mandatory funded pensions seen as a novelty of the first wave of "paradigmatic" pension reforms in emerging market economies and as an institutional device in the very centre of the recent post-2008 change. Evidence from Poland is examined in the context of the pension reform engineering. The central question is for whose welfare or benefit the open pension funds (OFEs) were introduced and why they have been scaled down recently. The perspective taken here is to explain the processes through reconstruction of major interests involved. Under the assumption that the state is the main force at play, the eco-nomic and political interests of this party are reconstructed and discussed. The proposition that rising deficits and debts within general government sector provided stimuli for both rise and decline of the OFEs is the very start of the diagnosis. The paper argues that apart from the undesirable outcome of current debt accounting there were fundamental reasons of strategic nature for which government lost its positive interest in the OFEs as an institutional (that is long-run) device.

Opis:
The present paper reports an innovative, sustainable approach in accordance with the rules of Circular Economy in the synthesis of open-cell polyurethane foams. The materials were prepared with biopolyols from a used cooking oil. The hydroxyl values of the biopolyols were ca. 100, 200 and 250 mg KOH/g. In the next step, the three polyurethane biofoams were modified with a flame retardant in order to decrease their flammability. The influence of the hydroxyl values of the biopolyols on the reactivity of the systems, cellular structures, mechanical and thermal properties of the biofoams was investigated. The most beneficial properties were obtained for open-cell polyurethane foams prepared using biopolyol characterized by hydroxyl value 200 mg KOH/g.
W artykule przedstawiono innowacyjne i zrównoważone podejście, zgodne z zasadami Gospodarki o Obiegu Zamkniętym, do syntezy otwartokomórkowych pianek poliuretanowych. Do wytworzenia pianek użyto biopoliole o liczbie hydroksylowej 100, 200 i 250 mg KOH/g otrzymane zoleju posmażalniczego.

The broadly understood cooperation of science and economy is a priority in the present reality. In spite of this, the awareness of business entities and scientific units regarding the applicability of the Open Innovation (OI) model is marginal. It is advisable to promote the idea of OI in line with the trends of the world economy, in which companies are involved in the development of advanced technologies. In practice, however, the low interest in OI or innovativeness as such may pose a threat to the economic development of the Łódź voivodeship. This article focuses on studies carried out under the InfoPro project among the members of the Bioenergy for the Region Cluster to show good practices and recommendations that can be used by stakeholders and those involved in the process of transferring knowledge and innovation. At the same time, postulates were formulated, which should play a key role in the development strategy for Łódzkie voivodeship in the context of promoting and taking into account innovativeness as an economic propulsion.
Szeroko pojmowana współpraca nauki i gospodarki stanowi priorytet współczesnej rzeczywistości.
