Opis:
The purpose of the study was to determine the level of knowledge and attitudes towards surveillance capitalism and online institutional privacy protection practices among adolescents in Poland (aged 18–19), as well as to determine the relationships between these variables. Surveillance capitalism has emerged as a result of internet users’ activities and involves the collection of all data about these users by different entities for specific benefits without letting them know about it. The dominant role in surveillance capitalism is played by hi-tech corporations. The aim of the study was to verify whether knowledge, and what kind of knowledge, on surveillance capitalism translates into practices related to the protection of online institutional privacy. The study was conducted on a sample of 177 adolescents in Poland. The main part of the questionnaire consisted of two scales: the scale of knowledge and attitudes on surveillance capitalism, and the scale of online institutional privacy protection practices. The results of the study, calculated by statistical methods, showed that although the majority of respondents had average knowledge and attitudes about surveillance capitalism, which may result from insufficient knowledge of the subject matter, this participation in specialized activities/workshops influences the level of intensification of online institutional privacy protection practices.

Opis:
Parents actively share information about their children on Facebook, but little research has explored the extent of this issue. The goal of this paper is to theorize a new type of parents’ online activities concerning their children, especially the problem of sharenting, which is increasingly common in contexts where social media such as Facebook play a significant role in relationships and interactions. This paper explores what kind of baby pictures parents share on Facebook and what are the likely causes of doing it. The presented research was conducted with the use of social media ethnography among 168 Polish parents using Facebook. The findings have shown that the phenomenon of sharenting is common practice among parents.

Opis:
The protection of children’s personal data as part of their right to privacy and information autonomy is extremely important. Year in, year out, the number of children using the Internet and services increases. This means that there need to be special tools and techniques established to protect children’s right to privacy. It is particularly important when children use services provided by companies after other, than local, jurisdiction. As they may not fully understand risk associated with exposing themselves in the Intranet, this is crucial for governmental authorities to ensure that children are protected. The aim of the article is to review current legislation protecting children’s personal data both in European Union and State of California. This particular state has been chosen for two reasons: firstly dozens of internet services providers are based in this state, secondly it would be difficult to ignore that this state was the first to introduce new data protection regulation which in many aspects brings US data protection law closer to European standards. Taking into consideration European Union regulation it is necessary to assess whether the current data protection regime in California answers adequacy requirements and whether data may be freely transferred to this territory.

Opis:
The value system of Poles in terms of the phenomenon of privacy on the Internet was analysed. The following aspects were taken into account: privacy on the Internet as a moral value, privacy on the Internet as a subject of legal regulations (current or future) and actual actions taken by users to protect privacy. The differentiation of Polish society in terms of the three above-mentioned areas was also examined. Results were obtained on the basis of a quantitative empirical study conducted on a representative sample (N=1001) of adult Poles. The method of computer assisted telephone interviews (CATI) was used. Descriptive statistics and selected inductive statistics were used in the analyses. Intra-group differentiation was investigated using a method called two-step cluster analysis. Poles have low technical competences in the field of Internet privacy protection. This value is appreciated; however, it rarely translates into active protection of one’s own identity and information. A strong polarization of Poles’ attitudes towards the requirement to disclose their identity on the Internet was identified, as well as ensuring access to any user information by law enforcement agencies. Poles are willing to accept legal regulations preventing their profiling. We note a moderately strong negative attitude towards state institutions as a factor limiting privacy on the Internet and a significantly lower (but still negative) attitude towards Internet service providers. Poles differ in terms of attitudes towards privacy on the Internet (IT competences, age, education, gender, socioeconomic status and size of the place of residence).

Opis:
COVID-19, mobility, socio-social changes have transferred to the world of social media communication, purchasing activities, the use of services. Corporate social media has been created to support clients in using various services, give them the possibility of easy communication without time and local barriers. Unfortunately, they still very rarely take into account the security and privacy of customers. Considering that the purpose of this article is to investigate the impact of social media on the company's image, it should be remembered that this image also works for the security and privacy of customer data. Data leaks or their sale are not welcomed by customers. The results of empirical research show that the safety, simplicity and variety of services offered on social media have a significant impact on the perceived quality, which in turn positively affects the reputation. The authors proposed a methodology based on the Kano model and customer satisfaction in order to examine the declared needs and undefined desires and divide them into different groups with different impacts on consumer satisfaction. The interview participants were employees of 10 randomly selected companies using social media to conduct sales or service activities. 5,000 people from Poland, Portugal and Germany participated in the study. 4,894 correctly completed questionnaires were received.

Opis:
Following the current situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic, this study brings to light the way in which the traditional school (the notion “school” was used in this paper with reference to all levels of learning, both schools and universities) was replaced, in a somewhat forced way, with online school in a society pursuing the tradition of face-toface education. Given this aspect of e-learning and a possible higher exposure of their private life, for both students and teachers, the study will seek to answer the question: “Does online school represent a limitation of the right to private life?” through a series of legal arguments. However, before an answer is found, the right to private life and the right to education, as seen through Romanian legal regulations, as well as through the perspective of the European Convention on Human Rights, will be studied in detail. Last but not least, the concept of online school will be subject to analysis, from the perspective of both main parties involved in the education act, closely following the concept of private life.

Opis:
Toys with integrated technology are not a new thing. We are familiar with talking dolls or remote control cars. However, the interactive toys connected to the internet, which has appeared in recent years, and which are the natural consequence of the development of the internet of things, may bring a revolution to the world of children. Following article is the result of the research project „Internet of Toys a support or a threat to child’s development?” aimed at verifying the readiness to introduce digital toys as well astesting what is the level of security associated with the smart connected toys usage. A mixed methods research: pilot qualitative study in the form of interviews concerning various attitudes and practices relating to the use of digital devices, in particular connected smart toys, together with a quantitative study, gave an overview on the smart toys popularisation and the level of knowledge about their safety. Moreover, tests over selected products from the viewpoint of cyber threats and precautions implemented bythe vendor made it possible to come up with safety recommendations for future or present smart connected toys users. Communicative companions may bring not only fun and education, but also a dose of threats. What happens to the data collected by the toys, how easy it is to reach unauthorised access to the device and who potentially may come into these data possession? Last but not least this article tries to answer the questions on what consequences might bring to children social development, permanent parental supervision, restrictions of children’s privacyand the possibility that digital toys might become a replacement of a real participation in the child’s life.
