Opis:
The analysis of work parameters of a turboprop engine fuelled by various fuels was done in the paper. The turboprop engine model was presented in the beginning. The main feature of this model is description of the flow in the engine as semi-perfect gas model. By the way, the change of fumes chemical composition influence the gas properties as heat constant and isentropic index are determined. Next energy balance of a compressor and turbine was analysed and turbine pressure drop was evaluated. Finally, engine output power was determined. It was done for selected fuels, which could be applied in the aero engines. The results of analyse were presented in the tables and charts and discussed. Summary of the test results with the results for contemporary applied fuel allows drawing the conclusions about the turboprop engine performance change by various fuel application. Main of them refers to the point that higher combustion heat value of fuel and higher heat constant of fumes cause better engine work conditions By this way the hydrogen seems to be perspective fuel of future, because its combustion heat value is three times JET A-1 and by this way it is possible the engine fuel consumption will be lower.

Opis:
The paper presents search for objective and quantitative method of determination usefulness of various loose sorbents destined for cleaning surfaces polluted with oil. The motivation to take up the topic is that oil pollution emergence in marine areas remains still as the environmental problem. During the ship exploitation there is possibility of appearing of the fuel oil, lubricating oil, hydraulic oil or even transformer oil leaks on the board which might be erased by washing or using sorbent powders and granules or mates. In the case of disposing the washing liquids, the large volume of oil-in-water emulsion is forming which is gathered in a tank and further transported to the vessel cleaning system. In the case when sorbents are applied in an early phase of oil leakage, the vessel cleaning system is less overloaded which reduce the probability of failure. We report analyses of effectiveness of mineral and organic sorbents. The time-period of incepting of defined amount of oil by define amount of sorbent is applied as the sorption effectiveness parameter. Time plots of oil sorption as well as visualizations of this process are presented. Method to characterize the efficiency of sorbents in relation to used lubricating oil is proposed which will stand as the base for further works directed towards elaborating optimal sorbent-set which can be rapidly used for combat spillages and leaks of oils and even other liquid dangerous payloads carried by ships.

Opis:
Project analysis to meet needs for equipment customized to pumping out surface forms of oil in the port and other narrow basins are reported in this paper. New elements of the technical concept of the skimmer to eliminate the disadvantages of structurally similar devices are proposed - esential componets of the new type of skimmer currently elaborating in the Student Scientific Society „Nautica“ (at Faculty of Marine Engineering of the Gdynia Maritime University) are demostrated. The first motivation to this work is that the consequence of growing usage of ships in the world transport is necessity to search for more fast and efficient methods to remove oil pollutions from the water surface and the second one – preparation of appropriate training and research equipment for the continuous improvement of its construction as well as the manner of its use in variety conditions. Port areas are relatively small and they have numerous hard to navigate places, therefore oils which leaked from ships or transloading equipment are difficult to remove from the water surface. Those all factors promote the development of the new and innovative solutions for more efficient water treatment. New solutions of the technical concept of the skimmer are proposed here - among other the theoretically justifiable triangular inlet openings with the system of vertical positionnig relative to the water surface.

Opis:
Providing more and more energy is an essential task of today's energetic industry. In the last few years, addition to traditional methods of energy production, alternative energy sources have been fast developing. One of the devices that can use these sources is fuel cell. The fuel cells can be a power source of future mainly due to their high efficiency, low influence on environment and possibility of powering with different fuels. Most often fuel cells are powered by hydrogen. However, problems with the problems with its cheap production and storage are the reason for the search of new fuels for fuel cells. But it must be a fuel that will provide zero or low emission level. One of these fuels can be vegetable oil. The paper presents measurements of electrooxidation of coconut oil emulsion on a smooth platinum electrode in an aqueous solution of KOH. Electrochemical measurements were performed in a glass cell with AMEL System 5000 potentiostat. The obtained maximum current density is equal 25 mA/cm2. So, a fundamental possibility of using the coconut oil as fuel for fuel cell. But is necessary to keep the temperature of process above 303K.

Opis:
As fuel for fuel cells can be used various substances, but mainly fuel cells are powered by clear hydrogen (or hydrogen obtained from organic substances by reforming process). However, problems with the storage of hydrogen are the reason for the search of new fuels for fuel cells. Due to development of the renewable energy sources, the powering of fuel cells with bio-fuels is very important. Vegetable oil is an alternative fuel for diesel engines and for heating oil burners. Powering high efficiency power sources like fuel cells with renewable fuels (like canola oil) will allow development of renewable energy sources and elimination or reduce of toxic substances emissions. The paper presents the possibility of using canola oil as fuel for direct electricity production. The work shows possible electrooxidation of canola oil emulsion on a smooth platinum electrode in an solution of H2SO4. The resulting current density of canola oil electrooxidation reached the maximum level of 8 mA/cm2. So, the possibility of using canola oil as fuel for direct electricity production has been proved.

Condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of engineering systems are critical for the stable and reliable operation in various areas as mobile technology (primarily agricultural, forestry, mining and construction machinery), railways, airlines and large fleets. Thus, to achieve a satisfactory level of reliability for the life of a machine, proactive maintenance strategy is the only key. This means that the application of classical reliability methods suitable for components with sudden failures can be complemented by technical diagnostic methods which have the potential to provide the information about the system condition. In this article we focus on the diagnostic signal related to the used oil – tribodiagnostic measures and is an interesting theoretical item related to the evaluation of the quality of lubricants in the aspect of operation. This is because the oil is in direct contact with single parts of the assessed technical systems. Results tests were reviewed and derived from various parameters of lubricants and their limits that highlight the condition and state of the lubricants under varying categories which include, physiochemical, elemental (wear), contamination and additive analysis.

As fuel for fuel cells can be used various substances, but generally fuel cells are powered by hydrogen. However, problems with the storage of hydrogen are the reason for the search of new fuels for fuel cells. Moreover, annually are produced huge amount of waste oils. These oils must be directed to purification and processing. It would be important to use waste engine oil as fuel for fuel cell to direct electricity production without intermediate stage e.g. combustion. The paper presents the possibility of using waste engine oil as fuel for fuel cell. The oil does not have the feature of electrical conductivity, for this reason a detergent was used for dissolving oil in an electrolyte. So, the work shows possible electrooxidation of waste engine oil (Turdus 15W40 from agriculture machinery) emulsion on a platinum electrode in an aqueous solution of H2SO4. Researches were done by the method of polarizing curves of electrooxidation of waste engine oil emulsion in glass vessel, on a smooth platinum electrode with potentiostat. In any case, the process of electrooxidation of waste engine oil emulsion occurred. A current density of about 6-20 mA/cm2 was obtained for all concentrations of waste engine oil. The highest results of the potential were obtained at temperature of 333K (25 mA/cm2 ). A fundamental possibility of electrooxidation of waste engine oil (Turdus 15W40) emulsion on platinum smooth electrode in acid electrolyte (aqueous solution of H2SO4) was presented in this paper. The obtained current density and power of glass fuel cell is low, but it was demonstrated a fundamental possibility of electricity production in fuel cell powering with waste engine oil.

Opis:
Microspheres (MS) made of biostable polymer, namely polystyrene, have been used as substrates for cell culture enabling rapid cell expansion in dynamic conditions. However, due to non-resorbability, polystyrene (PS) MS when repopulated with cells cannot be directly used in tissue engineering. Our concept was to produce MS from resorbable polymer – poly(L-lactide- -co-glycolide) (PLGA) as a support for adherent cells, e.g. osteoblasts. We hypothesize that such MS can be applied to the injured site to act as cell carriers or as modules for modular tissue engineering (MTE). In this article, we present the results of optimizing the PLGA MS manufacturing conditions via oil-in-water emulsification. Due to such a technique, MS with the required size, size distribution and properties suitable for cell culturing can be obtained. Three parameters of the oil-in-water emulsification were examined: the stirring speed of a water phase during MS manufacturing, the surfactant concentration, i.e. poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) in a water phase and concentration of PLGA in dichloromethane (DCM) as an oil phase. The results proved that the 7.5% PLGA concentration in DCM solution as an oil phase, the 0.5-2% concentration of PVA solution as a water phase and the stirring speed of water phase of 1000 rpm provided MS with the 160 μm mean diameter, which is suitable for cell culture. Moreover, the developed sieving and cleaning procedures were efficient to collect MS with the mean diameter of 280 μm, the more coherent size distribution and the ability to sink in the cell culture medium. The presence on the bottom of cell culture wells is crucial for MTE.
