Opis:
Flood monitoring of wetlands and floodplains is a new issue in remote sensing, as compared to the mapping of open water bodies. The method based on spectral water indices, calculated on the basis of green, red and shortwave infrared bands, is one of the most popular methods for the recognition of a water body in multispectral images. The recently introduced Sentinel-2 satellite can provide multispectral images with high spatial resolution. This new data set is potentially of great importance for flood mapping, due to its free access and the frequent revisit capabilities. In this study, three popular water indices (Modified Normalized Difference Water Index, Normalized Difference Pond Index and Normalized Difference Turbidity Index) were used. The efficiency of the proposed method was tested experimentally using the Sentinel-2 image for the Kampinos National Park in Poland. The experiment compared four extraction algorithms including three based on individual water indicators and one on a combination of them. The results showed that the 10-metre false colour composite produced significantly improved the recognition of flooding in wetland areas by comparison with single spectral water indices. In this way, flooded wetlands were mapped based on the Sentinel-2 data set for the years 2017-2018.

Opis:
Speech enhancement objective is to improve the noisy speech signals for human perception. The intention of speech enhancement algorithm is to improve the performance of the communication, when the signal is occluded by noise. The quality and intelligibility of speech is reduced because of the presence of background noise. There are various adaptive filtering algorithms for speech enhancement. The existing least mean square and normalised least mean square algorithms have the problem of choosing the step size that guarantees the stability of the algorithm. To overcome this problem, we focus on speech enhancement by amended adaptive filtering. The proposed algorithm follows blind source separation strategy using adaptive filtering. Comparison of existing adaptive filtering algorithms with proposed algorithm justifies the amendment incorporated in this paper. Taking the objective criteria into account the algorithms has been tested for segmental signal to noise ratio (SegSNR), segmental mean square error (SegMSE), signal to noise ratio and mean square error. The proposed algorithm can be used for hand-free cell phone, hearing aids and teleconferencing systems.

Opis:
The development of remote sensing instruments and methods has revolutionised work practices worldwide, resulting in a new field of research. Remote sensing has significantly expanded the possibilities for detailed research, spanning from biological to urban studies, by constantly imaging the Earth. Numerous photogrammetric campaigns and satellite missions have been increasing the possibilities for conducting research that includes larger areas and time scales while minimising the need for fieldwork. This is particularly useful in polar regions, where fieldwork is complicated by harsh weather conditions, hard-to-reach research areas, polar nights, and the need for high funding and logistical support. Here available algorithms that help to track environmental shifts in the small Arctic catchments, such as changes in ice, snow, vegetation, and water are presented.

Opis:
The paper presents the results of a triaxial test conducted on stiff, consolidated clays. The standard TXCIU procedure (isotropic consolidation and undrained shearing) was applied in the laboratory soil tests. The undrained elastic modulus Eu50 was de- termined from each test. The Eu50 values were determined for soil samples cut out from different depths and tested under different confining pressures. There was a significant scatter of values with depth, and no relationships between Eu50 modules or other geotechnical parameters (e.g., cu) were observed. This work presents the concept of normalization of Eu50 modulus values using modified normalization SHANSEP (Stress History And Normalized Soil Engineering Properties). This method was first proposed for estimating the value of the undrained shear strength cu normalizing the parameter relative to the in situ effective vertical stress σ vo and loading history (overconsolidation stress σ p and overconsolidation ratio OCR) of the soil. The study demonstrated that the concept of normalization of soil properties can also be used for testing elastic modulus Eu50 of con- solidated natural clays and normalized values of geotechnical parameters taking into account the state of stress and load history can be correlated with the value of the overburden pressure.

Opis:
Sabalan Mountain (northwest Iran) witnessed intense volcanic activity during the Cenozoic (Plio-Pleistocene). The result of this manifests itself in the conical geometry of the Sabalan stratovolcano and ahigh hydrothermal gradient around it, which can be detected by geological phenomena such as hot springs, smoke gases and steam outlet pores. The high hydrothermal slope and upward migration of hot water in this area have caused extensive alteration zones in the host rocks. A mineralogical study of alteration zones in thewells drilled in the Moyil Valley to the northwest of Sabalan Mountain has revealed the presence of phyllic, argillic, calcitic and propylitic alterations in volcanic rocks (trachyandesite) and alteration phyllic and propylitic ones in monzonite rocks. In chondrite-normalised rare-earth-element diagrams, trachyandesite rocks exhibit an HREEs enrichment when compared to MREEs and LREEs in propylitic and calcitic alteration zones. This result can be explained by the acidic nature of hydrothermal fluids containing complex ions such as (SO-2, Cl-). The (La/Yb)cn, (La/Sm)cn and (Tb/Yb)cn ratios for argillic, phyllic, propylitic and calcitic alteration zones have revealed that they are higher in fresh rocks compared to altered rocks, suggesting the enrichment of HREEs in comparison to LREEs and MREEs. The anomalies of Eu do not change remarkably in the argillic and propylitic alteration zones of trachyandesite rocks; apparently, alteration hadno effect on them. Such behaviour reflects the presence of gold cations in Eu+3 formed at temperatures below 250°C. Eu anomalies increased in propylitic alteration zones in monzonite rocks and calciticand phyllic alteration zones in trachyandesiterocks.
