Opis:
The paper presents the results of research focused on the wave propagation in the CTO S.A. deepwater towing tank. In the scope of paper, the wavemaker transfer function was determined for regular waves, based on the Biésel Transfer Function and further for irregular waves, based on Hasselman model of nonlinear energy transfer. The phenomena: wave damping, wave breakdown and wave reflection, were measured, analyzed and mathematically modeled. Developed mathematical models allow to calculate the impact of mentioned phenomena on the wave propagation and furthermore to calculate the wave characteristics along the whole measurement area in the CTO S.A. deepwater towing tank, based on wavemaker flap motion control.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to determine the effect of soil contamination with diesel oil on the early development of three species of the Fabaceae family (Medicago lupulina L., Lotus corniculatus L., Trifolium repens L.). These species have a wide ecological range and they often occur on extensively used lawns. For these reasons, the knowledge on their tolerance to soil pollution with diesel oil can be of great importance in the creative and conservative cultivation of these plant species and their seed production for establishing the greenery of communication routes. The studies were carried out under controlled laboratory conditions. The soil substrates were composed of the loamy sand mixed with diesel oil in an amount of 2.5 g and 5.0 g per 1 kg of absolute dry mass of soil. The germination dynamics were analyzed. The measurements were conducted twice a day for 12 days after sowing. The development of seedlings was determined on the basis of the length, diameter, area and volume of the radicle. These features were determined on 20-day-old seedlings of the tested species. For the analysis of plant material, the technique of the scanned image was used in the “WinRhizo PRO 2009” software. It was proven that the tested species have various tolerances for the petrol oil in the soil and demonstrate various defense mechanisms under the stress conditions. The least changes of the seed germination rate on the soil with diesel oil against the control were indicated for L. corniculatus. The defense strategy of that species relied on the radicle development through increasing the diameter and – in consequence – the surface and the volume. M. lupulina also showed good germination capacity in the presence of diesel oil, but the radicle was shorter in comparison to the control. The germination rate of T. repens in the contaminated soil was significantly reduced. The recommendation for using not only L. corniculatus, but also M. lupulina on the contaminated areas should be taken into consideration.

We study the exact and approximate controllabilities of the Langevin equation describing the Brownian motion of particles with a white noise. The Langevin equation is shown to describe also the bacterial run-and-tumble motion. Applying the Green’s function approach to the Green’s function representation of the Langevin equation, we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for exact controllability in the form of a finite-dimensional problem of moments. For the approximate controllability, we obtain only sufficient conditions. The sets of resolving controls are characterized in both cases. The theoretical derivations are supported by a numerical analysis.

A method has been suggested which solves a multiobjective stochastic linear programming problem with normal multivariate distributions in accordance with the minimum-risk criterion. The approach to the problem uses the concept of satisfaction functions for the explicit integration of the preferences of the decision-maker for different achievement level of each objective. Thereafter, a nonlinear deterministic equivalent problem is formulated and solved by the bisection method. Numerical examples with two and three objectives are given for illustration. The solutions obtained by this method are compared with the solutions given by other approaches.

Opis:
Source/filter models have frequently been used to model sound production of the vocal apparatus and musical instruments. Beginning in 1968, in an effort to measure the transfer function (i.e., transmission response or filter characteristic) of a trombone while being played by expert musicians, sound pressure signals from the mouthpiece and the trombone bell output were recorded in an anechoic room and then subjected to harmonic spectrum analysis. Output/input ratios of the signals’ harmonic amplitudes plotted vs. harmonic frequency then became points on the trombone’s transfer function. The first such recordings were made on analog 1/4 inch stereo magnetic tape. In 2000 digital recordings of trombone mouthpiece and anechoic output signals were made that provide a more accurate measurement of the trombone filter characteristic. Results show that the filter is a high-pass type with a cutoff frequency around 1000 Hz. Whereas the characteristic below cutoff is quite stable, above cutoff it is extremely variable, depending on level. In addition, measurements made using a swept-sine-wave system in 1972 verified the high-pass behavior, but they also showed a series of resonances whose minima correspond to the harmonic frequencies which occur under performance conditions. For frequencies below cutoff the two types of measurements corresponded well, but above cutoff there was a considerable difference. The general effect is that output harmonics above cutoff are greater than would be expected from linear filter theory, and this effect becomes stronger as input pressure increases. In the 1990s and early 2000s this nonlinear effect was verified by theory and measurements which showed that nonlinear propagation takes place in the trombone, causing a wave steepening effect at high amplitudes, thus increasing the relative strengths of the upper harmonics.

This paper presents a simple exact solution for coupled nonlinear free vibration analysis of Multilayer Graphene Sheets (MLGS) using elliptical functions. Though elliptical functions are used in nonlinear dynamics, they are employed to find the exact solution of a coupled system for the first time. The nonlinear dynamic equation including geometric nonlinearity and Eringen nonlocal theory is uncoupled by elliptical functions, and exact solutions for simply supported boundary conditions are obtained. The results are compared with the harmonic balance method. The nonlinear frequency of MLGS is studied for its effects with a small scale parameter, and the linear and nonlinear van der Waals force.

Many nonlinear dynamical systems can present a challenge for the stability analysis in particular the estimation of the region of attraction of an equilibrium point. The usual methodis based on Lyapunov techniques. For the validity of the analysis it should be supposed that the initial conditions lie in the domain of attraction. In this paper, we investigate such problem for a class of dynamical systems where the origin is not necessarily an equilibrium point. In this case, a small compact neighborhood of the origin can be estimated as an attractor for the system. We give a method to estimate the basin of attraction based on the construction of a suitable Lyapunov function. Furthermore, an application to Lorenz system is given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Let Ω be a bounded domain in $ \mathbb{R}^4 $ with smooth boundary and let $ x^1, x^2, . . . , x^m $ be m-points in Ω. We are concerned with the problem $ \Delta^2 u - H(x, u, D^k u)=\rho^4 \prod_{i=1}^n | x - p_i |^{4 \alpha_i } f(x)g(u), $ where the principal term is the bi-Laplacian operator, $ H(x, u, D^k u)$ is a functional which grows with respect to $ Du $ at most like $ |Du|^q, 1 ≤ q ≤ 4, f : Ω → [0,+∞[ $ is a smooth function satisfying f(pi) > 0 for any i = 1, . . . , n, $ α_i $ are positives numbers and $ g : \mathbb{R} → [0,+∞[ $ satisfy $ |g(u)| ≤ ce^u $. In this paper, we give sufficient conditions for existence of a family of positive weak solutions $ (u_ρ)_{ρ>0} $ in Ω under Navier boundary conditions u = Δu = 0 on ∂Ω. The solutions we constructed are singular as the parameters ρ tends to 0, when the set of concentration $ S = {x^1, . . . , x^m} ⊂ Ω $ and the set $ Λ := {p_1, . . . , p_n} ⊂ Ω $ are not necessarily disjoint. The proof is mainly based on nonlinear domain decomposition method.

The paper shortly presents shock absorber design evolution and resulting achieved characteristics. The way in which suspension performance is evaluated is described giving information about models used for suspension parameter tuning during simulation testing of suspension transmissibility (FRF - Frequency Response Function) for most important suspension assessment criteria. More detailed information about models of shock absorber (damper) nonlinearities of characteristics allows for description of methods of linear and nonlinear suspension models FRF estimation. Testing linear suspension model is possible with the use of analytical transfer function formulas which were used to verify methods for estimation FRF using estimated power spectral density functions of excitation and response signals. Designing appropriate input signal allowing to get useful response signals was necessary to for the success of this research. Proposed FRF estimation method was used for linear estimation of nonlinear suspension for a given range of working condition. It was demonstrated that there is no single value of a damping coefficient which would make the linear model responses similar to the responses of the nonlinear one. Then the bilinear model was proposed, giving good damper static nonlinear characteristic.

Opis:
Digital volume correlation is an image-based technique for internal 3D displacement and strain fields measurement or analysis widely used in the field of experimental mechanics. A widely used correlation function (criterion) of digital volume correlation is Pearson correlation function, which suffers from the problem of the acquired data being contaminated by salt-and-pepper noise and monotonic nonlinear distortion of the light intensity. In this work, a 3D correlation function called the Spearman correlation function is used to deal with those interferences. A numerical experiment shows that the performance of Spearman correlation function using integer-pixel registration in an environment with 10% salt-and-pepper noise is better than that of Spearman and Pearson correlation functions using sub-pixel registration in an environment with 1% salt-and-pepper noise. As the light intensity distortion is significant, the error of Pearson correlation function is considerable; meanwhile, the error of Spearman correlation function is small. In conclusion, Spearman correlation function is, in particular, practical and useful in digital volume correlation.
