Opis:
The paper formulates some objections to the methods of evaluation of uncertainty in noise measurement which are presented in two standards: ISO 9612 (2009) and DIN 45641 (1990). In particular, it focuses on approximation of an equivalent sound level by a function which depends on the arithmetic average of sound levels. Depending on the nature of a random sample the exact value of the equivalent sound level may be significantly different from an approximate one, which might lead to erroneous estimation of the uncertainty of noise indicators. The article presents an analysis of this problem and the adequacy of the solution depending on the type of a random sample.

Minimisation of noise at a workstation is among fundamental tasks for maintaining safety at work, both in terms of health (the auditory system in particular) as well as work comfort. Thus, it is very important to systematically monitor noise levels by carrying out reliable measurements at a workstation. The method of performing noise measurements at workstations of specific machines is normalised so the results of such measurements for different machines is comparable. This paper presents noise measurements for DMC 635 numerically controlled milling machine, performed in accordance with PN ISO 230-5:2002 norm. The results showed that the level of noise at the operator’s workstation significantly exceeds the norm at certain machining parameters. The results of tests are concluded as detailed recommendation for the CNC machine tool operator to use hearing protection when at work.

Opis:
The results of long-term continuous noise measurements in two selected schools are presented in the paper. Noise characteristics were measured continuously there for approximately 16 months. Measurements started eight months prior to the acoustic treatment of the school corridors of both schools. An evaluation of the acoustic climates in both schools, before and after the acoustic treatment, was performed based on comparison of these two periods of continuous measurements. The autonomous noise monitoring stations, engineered at the Multimedia Systems Department of the Gdansk University of Technology were used for this purpose. Investigations of measured noise, especially its influence on hearing sense, assessed on ground of spectral analyses in critical bands, is discussed. Effects of occupational noise exposure, including the Temporary Threshold Shift simulation, are determined. The correlation of the above said measurement results with respective instantaneous noise levels is discussed, and concluding remarks are presented. Some additional indicators such as air pollution or video analysis aiming at the analysis of corridor occupancy are also measured. It should be remembered that excessive noise, or air pollution may be evidence of a dangerous event and may pose health risks.

Acoustic climate in the vicinity of transportation routes is mainly affected by traffic noise. Traffic volume is decisive as regards noise emissions. Other contributing factors include road geometry and motion conditions, namely vehicle speed and the share of heavy vehicles. Every part of the road in the city has unique characteristics with respect to motion character, the route surroundings, and also every-day noise creating the so-called acoustic background. The paper presents the analysis of the results of traffic noise surveys on the example of a part of Sandomierska Street in Kielce. On a weekday, two one-hour surveys were performed, intended to measure traffic volume and to record sound levels. In the surveys, meteorological conditions were taken into account. On the basis of the data collected, the relations between the number of vehicles in motion, type of vehicles, travel direction and the noise recorded in the road were established.

Opis:
Impulse sound events are characterised by ultra high pressures and low frequencies. Lower frequency sounds are generally less attenuated over a given distance in the atmosphere than higher frequencies. Thus, impulse sounds can be heard over greater distances and will be more affected by the environment. To calculate a longterm average immission level it is necessary to apply weighting factors like the probability of the occurrence of each weather condition during the relevant time period. This means that when measuring impulse noise at a long distance it is necessary to follow environmental parameters in many points along the way sound travels and also to have a database of sound transfer functions in the long term. The paper analyses the uncertainty of immission measurement results of impulse sound from cladding and destroying explosive materials. The influence of environmental conditions on the way sound travels is the focus of this paper.

Opis:
Electrochemical amperometric gas sensors represent a well-established and versatile type of devices with unique features: good sensitivity and stability, short response/recovery times, and low power consumption. These sensors operate at room temperature, and therefore have been applied in monitoring air pollutants and detection of toxic and hazardous gases in a number of areas. Some drawbacks of classical electrochemical sensors are overcome by the solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) based on ionic liquids. This work presents evaluation of an SPE-based amperometric sensor from the point of view of current fluctuations. The sensor is based on a novel three-electrode sensor platform with solid polymer electrolytes containing ionic liquid for detection of nitrogen dioxide − a highly toxic gas that is harmful to the environment and presenting a possible threat to human health even at low concentrations. The paper focuses on using noise measurement (electric current fluctuation measurement) for evaluation of electrochemical sensors which were constructed by different fabrication processes: (i) lift-off and drop-casting technology, (ii) screen printing technology on a ceramic substrate and (iii) screen printing on a flexible substrate.

Nowadays, simulation is a key part of the development and evaluation of every wireless system, while additive, white Gaussian noise (AWGN) is the basic noise model used in the created simulation models. Although the pseudorandom AWGN is the most common substitution of distortions used in the transmission models, it may differ significantly from the background noise recorded by the real radio receiver. In this paper authors present measurements of the real radio-frequency (RF) background noise of industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) band and analyze the differences between real and pseudorandom noise. The authors also propose polynomial adaptive equations that reduce the differences between pseudorandom and real RF noise power spectral densities. Using the given equations allows for better mapping of the real disturbances of the ISM band without the need for a prior noise measurements.

Opis:
This study presents the preliminary results of combining underwater acoustic ambient noise measurements with those of in-situ sea spray fluxes (SSF). Hydroacoustic measurements (in the frequency range 80 Hz –12.5 kHz) were made using an underwater noise recording system developed at the Institute of Oceanology of the Polish Academy of Sciences which was then deployed in the southern Baltic Sea. The simultaneous measurements of coarse sea spray fluxes (with particle diameters ranging from 0.5 to 47 µm) were made on board the r/v Oceania using the gradient method. Observations were conducted for the duration of the passage of an atmospheric front that lasted 2.5 days (60 hours of measurements). There were significant differences in the sound pressure level (SPL) and aerosol fluxes observed between the first part of measurements (developing wave state) and the second part (developed waves). Wave parameters, such as peak period, significant wave height, wave age, and mean wave slope acquired from the WAM (WAve Model), were used to investigate the impact of wave field properties on noise and aerosol flux measurements. We observed different behaviours in the power spectrum density (PSD) levels of noise for these parameters depending on the wave state development.

The paper discusses the way of determining the noise level in railway traffic according to new EU recommendations, the introduction of which will result in new charges to be borne by the carriers who, during the provision of transport and handling services, use wagons of the old generation - i.e. such wagons that generate noise above the permitted level on a given section of railway road, determined on the basis of EU regulations. The analysis of technical condition of wagons used in transport in Poland was conducted. The method of determining the noise level in terms of exceedances and charges was discussed. The issue of an optional increase in the reloading of cargo units at railway terminals to transport cargo in silent wagons on designated silent sections of routes was raised - this may affect the development and operation of logistics centers.

Hydraulic fracturing operations performed at the stage of gas prospection in shale formations are aimed at opening out gas residing in rock micropores. Large quantities of fracturing fluid, with physicochemical composition adjusted to their properties, are injected to the selected interval of a horizontal well. Finally, sand (proppant) is injected along with the fracturing fluid to support the newly formed fracture. The results of a computer simulation of noise emission generated by high pressure pumps during hydraulic fracturing operations, and the results of noise measurements during such work in the north of Poland are presented in the paper. The analysis of the obtained results revealed that the noise standards for day hours in the residential area localized ca. 320 m from the well pad was not exceeded for the hydraulic fracturing operations. The noise level in the night hours was considerably higher, therefore a respective sound berm should be construed.

Opis:
Coal mine methane from post extraction coal gobs is most efficiently produced with drilling wells realized from the surface. In Polish conditions, such wells are most frequently drilled in highly urbanized areas and residential quarters. The drilling of such wells creates the hazard of exceeding admissible noise levels in the areas requiring acoustic protection during the day and night. Therefore it is very important to assess the level of noise emitted by the rig and to establish the isophones 45 dB and 55 dB for various field conditions. With such information, the location of the rig can be properly selected at the stage of well design. The level of noise emitted in the environment during the drilling of experimental gas well Wieczorek-AGH-1, was established on the basis of noise analyses performed within the well pad area and its closest vicinity with the reference method, described in the Regulation of the Environment Minister of 30 October 2014 concerning the requirements of the analyses of emissions and the quantity of water consumption (Official Journal of 2014, item 1542), hereinafter called the Regulation.

Opis:
Mining operations, both those conducted currently and in the past in densely populated urban areas generate well known adverse effects, both on the natural environment and on technical substance located in them. This entails a straightforward question of human safety and methods to mitigate these negative consequences. To be able to make reliable assessment of vibroacoustic climate, including that existing in residential buildings, it is necessary to perform measuring tasks in the form of continuous monitoring of two types of related parameters: vibrational and acoustic. This means designing and building a continuous monitoring system. A version developed at the Department of Technical Acoustics, Laser Technology and Radiometry is described in the paper. The proposed System for Continuous Measurements of Noise and Vibration (SCMNV) is based on combining two subsystems, the first of them designed to perform measurements of acoustic parameters, and the other the measurements of tilt and vibration of building structures. Subject to control by such a complex monitoring system are various structures affected by underground mining, e.g. cultural heritage objects, such as churches, castles, and public objects (hospitals, schools, etc.). Joint (usually inter-related) effects of past and current mining and heavy road and railway traffic are also controlled. The acoustic parameters are being effectively measured through using the System for Continuous Noise Measurement (SCNM), while tilt and vibration by using the Laser Tilt and Vibration Measuring System (LTVMS). Some measuring situations need using additional vibration measuring equipment. For this purpose, a POLYTEC PSV-400 scanning laser Doppler vibrometer is used.
Oznacza to zaprojektowanie i zbudowanie systemu do ciągłego monitoringu.

Noise is a fundamental metrological characteristic of the instrument in surface topography measurement. Therefore, measurement noise should be thoroughly studied in practical measurement to understand instrument performance and optimize measurement strategy. This paper investigates the measurement noise at different measurement settings using structured illumination microscopy. The investigation shows that the measurement noise may scatter significantly among different measurement settings. Eliminating sample tilt, selecting low vertical scanning interval and high exposure time is helpful to reduce the measurement noise. In order to estimate the influence of noise on the measurement, an approach based on metrological characteristics is proposed. The paper provides a practical guide to understanding measurement noise in a wide range of applications.
