Opis:
Natural insulations made from by-products available in large quantities are growing in importance. In the wood processing industry, among other materials, wood chips and shavings are available in large quantities. The aim of this research was to determine the optimal density of thermal insulation panels made of different wood shavings. Planer and drill shavings of spruce (Picea abies) were used as raw material. The same amount of both types of shavings was compacted. The thermal conductivity of both types of shavings asymptotically approached a value between 0.05 and 0.06 W/mK. After a preliminary experiment, panels were manufactured with densities from 55 to 400 kg/m3 with urea formaldehyde and with methyl diphenyl diisocyanate glue. The thermal conductivity and the bending strength of the panels increased with increasing density. The bending strength of the panels glued with methyl diphenyl diisocyanate was much higher than for the others with the same densities.

Opis:
The first research objective was the assessment of the selectivity of water and hydrogen adsorption by the 3A molecular sieve (MS) in the terms of the safety of using the DGA (Dissolved Gas Analysis) method as a diagnostic technique. The second objective was to demonstrate the efficiency of drying the insulation system consisting of cellulose insulation impregnated with various insulating liquids in terms of improving safety and extending the service life of power transformers. In order to achieve the assumed objectives, measurement systems were prepared and material tests were carried out, based mainly on chromatographic analyzes and measurements of water content using the Karl Fischer titration method. On the basis of the obtained test results and the conducted physical analyzes, the selectivity of MS sorption was shown and it was explained that the facilitator of the adsorption of water molecules is their polar nature related to their large dipole moment. The high efficiency of drying cellulose insulation impregnated with various insulating liquids using MS was also demonstrated.

Opis:
The present work aims at studying the effects of orientation, size, position, and the combination of multiple internal diathermal obstructions in a fluid-saturated square porous enclosure, generally encountered in thermal insulations. The overall objective is to suppress the natural convection fluid flow and heat transfer across a differentially heated porous enclosure. To serve this purpose, multiple diathermal obstructions are employed to mechanically protrude into a porous medium. It is sought to estimate the effect of various types of orientation, clustering and alternate positioning of obstructions by considering number of obstructions (Np), length of obstructions (λ), modified Rayleigh number (Ra*) on local and average Nusselt number (Nu). The Darcy model for porous media is solved using Finite difference method along with Successive Accelerated Replacement scheme. One of the findings is that the value of the Nusselt number decreases by increasing both, the number of obstructions as well as the length of obstructions irrespective of its orientation and positioning. The reduction in Nusselt number is significant with obstructions attached on lower half of the hot wall and/or on upper half of cold wall. In addition, the overall reduction in Nusselt number is slightly greater with obstructions attached explicitly to the cold wall.
