Opis:
This paper presents an empirical approach to the changes in motor skills of children who trained sports swimming at the initial stage of school education in an annual training cycle. The research included 94 boys aged 7 (1st grade of elementary school); 57 of them belonged to the Swimmers group and 37 belonged to the Control group. All boys attended elementary schools in Szczecin, Poland. Motor skills were assessed with 8 tests of the EUROFIT Test Battery. The study resulted in the following conclusions: I. Dynamics of changes in terms of overall balance, static strength, functional strength (between Examination I and II) was greater in the Swimmers group. II. In terms of upper limb movement, agility, explosive strength, torso strength, and agility run, differences between results of both examinations were similar in the Swimmers and Control groups. III. Progressive changes in motor skill of subjects were a positive phenomenon in the physical development of children. Thus, swimming trainings significantly impacted dynamics of positive changes in motor skills of boys at the early stage of school education. IV. Regular participation in sports classes (including swimming classes) had positive impact on motor skill development of children, which is of utmost importance at that age.

Opis:
The psychophysical development of humans is genetically determined and influenced by a number of external factors. Nowadays, impacts on the physical development and physical ability of young men are caused by such phenomena as acceleration and civilizational or urban changes. Monitoring of changes in development and the influence of different factors seems to be justified as it is related to the understanding of processes and the introduction of preventive measures in the field of health and physical fitness for future generations. New concepts for testing human physical abilities seem to focus on utilitarian targets related to health needs and daily human activities. The study was performed on a group of 211 boys from an urban area, including 75 at the age of 11, 74 at the age of 12 and 62 at the age of 13. The study examined the strength of abdominal and trunk muscles (sits-up from a lying position), shoulder girdle and lower extremity muscles (overhang on a bar), and explosive strength of upper limbs (forward and backward medicine ball throw). Boys at the age of 11 years achieved the shortest distances, and boys at the age of 13 the longest distances in forward medicine ball throws. The results of the attained distances in backward medicine ball throws were also better in older boys compared to younger ones. The results of the muscle endurance tests were different. In both attempts, boys at the age of 12 attained better results than their younger and older colleagues. The development of strength abilities in boys between the age of 11 and 13 years has stable progress, while the observed differences in muscle endurance in boys at the age of 13 require further monitoring and further examination of their impact in terms of quality and quantity in boys of prepubertal age.

Opis:
This paper presents an empirical approach to the changes in motor skills of children who train sports swimming at the initial stage of school education in an annual training cycle. Swimming belongs to the disciplines in which training starts at the age of 6-7. The proper selection of candidates to train certain disciplines is a complex process as they should be chosen from a large population of children, both girls and boys, having specific somatic and motor characteristics which, developed in the long-term, will enable them to achieve sports mastery. The aim of the research was to define which changes in motor skills occur in girls who train sports Aim: swimming in an annual training cycle. The Subject group consisted of 85 girls aged 7 who attended four elementary schools in Szczecin, Poland. 36 of them belonged to the Swimmers group and they were all members of the Municipal Swimming Club (MKP) in Szczecin. The Control group consisted of 49 girls who attended the same elementary schools. All subjects took part in two examinations (carried out in the school year 2009/2010. Physical ability tests were conducted in gyms. Motor skills were assessed with EUROFIT Test Battery which is the most reliable and accurate tool according to scientific research. The research revealed changes in both groups (Sw, C) in terms of all eight tests. Examination II proved statistically significant improvement of results in both groups (Sw, C) in comparison to Examination I. Changes between Examination I and Examination II results were most visible in the Swimmers groups in terms of balance, agility, static strength, functional strength and agility run. Changes between Examination I and Examination II were similar in both groups (Sw, C) in terms of speed of limb movement, explosive strength and torso strength. Progressive changes in motor skill of subjects are a positive phenomenon in the physical development of a child. Swimming training resulted significantly in positive changes in terms of motor skills of subject who were at the initial stage of swimming trainings, compared to their non-training peers. Participation in organized, regular sports classes results in the development of motor (physical) skills of children.

The map of candidate genes that can potentially affect physical fitness becomes larger every year, and they are associated with such aspects as respiratory and cardiovascular stability; body build and composition - especially muscle mass and strength; carbohydrate and lipid metabolism; response to training; and exercise intolerance. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between the CA repeat polymorphism of the P1 promoter of the IGF1 gene and the structure of motor skills in the two groups of Polish young athletes in 2007-2009. In this study, 350 young sportsmen representing different sports disciplines were examined (age = 15.5 ± 0.5 years), by genotyping the IGF1 gene and determining the structure of motor skills using the International Physical Fitness Test (IPFT) battery. The multiple stepwise regression was used to determine the impact of the investigated motor skills on the indicator of the overall physical fitness, measured by the total score of the International Physical Fitness Test (IPFT). The analysis showed some regularity related to the character of the IGF1 gene polymorphism. It can be concluded that the two groups of young boys athletes practicing various sports disciplines (kinds of physical exercise) displayed similar associations between CA repeat polymorphism of the P1 promoter of the IGF1 gene and the level of motor effects. Our results suggest that this polymorphism may be a genetic marker of the physical performance phenotype. We demonstrated that CA repeat polymorphism of the P1 promoter of the IGF1 gene was associated with strength predispositions in the homozygous and non-carriers groups. In the group who were heterozygous it was speed-strength aptitudes.

Introduction. The preparation of Polish Air Force cadets for survival in isolation is a necessary element of their training, to demonstrate just how difficult can be the conditions they could encounter in a combat situation. Objective. The aim of the research was to assess the effect of long-term survival training on selected coordination motor skills in Air Force cadets. Materials and method. Fifteen air force cadets aged 19.6±0.3 years exercised for 36 hours during survival training without the possibility to sleep. They were examined 4 times: Day 1 – before effort (training), Day 2 – after 24 hours training, Day 3 – directly after 36 hours training, Day 4 – next day, after an all night rest. They were examined for shooting and reaction time, the ability to maintain body balance, running motor adjustment, handgrip force differentiation, and on Days 1 and 3, exercise capacity was evaluated with a 1 mile walking test. Results. The survival training resulted in significant decreases in maximum handgrip strength, corrected 50% max handgrip, maintenance of body balance and heart rate. No changes occurred in reaction time, running motor adjustment and shooting performance. Overnight rest did not result in recovery of any of the examined factors to the values observed on Day 1. Conclusion. Survival training combined with sleep deprivation mostly affected peripheral factors depending on strong action from both muscles and nervous system, whereas complex tasks involving short-term central alertness and moderate exertion were maintained. In order to improve performance, more endurance strength training, if possible combined with sleep deprivation, should be introduced in military training.

The aim of the research was to diagnose chosen individual factors of adolescents’ physical development (motor skills, physical fitness, motor activity needs) and their influence on their actual level of physical activity in their leisure time. The subjects of the research were students of Cracow’s junior high schools. The probability sample of 295 girls and 329 boys were examined. The method used was a survey. The results of the examinations showed that the chosen individual factors had an influence on the actual level of physical activity in their leisure time. The boys’ motor skills (in contrast with the rest of the factors) correlated the least with the increase of the actual level of physical activity in leisure time, and in case of the girls, they did not correlate at all. Youngsters’ individual predispositions to undertake physical activity in their free time were at a medium-high level. Nevertheless, their internalization did not take place because more than a half of the subjects undertook physical activities at a low level (51.0%) or not at all (7.4%).

Introduction: The purpose of the work was to investigate the features of the physiological component of graph-motor skills of children aged from 5 to 8 years old. Materials and methods: Pupils of the 1st and 2nd grades (6-8 years old) and preschool children (5 years old) from general and pre-school educational institutions of Sumy city took part in the research. Hygienic, psychophysical, physiological methods and methods of mathematical statistics were used. Results: The assessment of physical development showed that 52.8±1.9% of children have a harmonious development, among them boys are over (58.3±2.7%) the group of girls (46.6±2.8%). Individual analysis of anthropometric indicators allowed to allocate among the surveyed children's contingent a "risk" group which includes individuals with excess body weight or its deficit. Endogenous factors influencing the formation of graph-motor skills are determined: physiological, cognitive and personal readiness. Conclusions: Mechanisms of physiological adaptation play an important role in adaptation of the child to the new conditions of the educational process, knowledge of their peculiarities is necessary for the early detection of minimal deviations of their health and the timely application of corrective measures.

Opis:
The study investigates the relation between developmental dyslexia, IQ and complex motor skills involving some cognitive and executive functions. The mechanisms underlying the co-existence of disabilities related to reading and writing on the one hand and motor skills on the other hand, still need to be clarified. In the current study it was hypothesised that the level of intelligence may contribute to complex motor skills in dyslexia. The study involved 58 students with developmental dyslexia (age 9.08 yrs; SD = .06) and 50 students constituting a control group (age 9.09 yrs; SD = .06). The measurements were performed using WISC-R, two subtests from the Dyslexia 3 Test, and four complex motor tasks. Children with dyslexia present problems in complex motor tasks, which involved learning of movement sequences and mental rotation. This finding may support the cerebellar deficit hypothesis in dyslexia.  Complex motor skills are significantly related to children’s intelligence level or to the interaction of intelligence and dyslexia. Child’s intelligence explains from 7.5% to 35% of the variance in complex motor skills.

The main aim of the work was to evaluate the effectiveness of physical therapy conducted with autistic children from the kindergarten at Krzemienna 42B in Szczecin. The research was conducted in the first halves of 2009 and 2010. The diagnostic tool used in order to evaluate gross motor skills was psycho-educational profile – revised (PEP-R). The research group included 8 boys with medically certified autism spectrum disorder. In 2009, out of 126 tasks given, all the tested students performed 104 tasks evaluated as completed, 16 tasks evaluated as promising and 6 tasks evaluated as uncompleted. Only one boy performed all tasks properly. In 2010 the students performed 120 tasks evaluated as completed, 5 as promising and 1 as uncompleted. Four of the autistic boys performed the tasks they were given perfectly. In 2009 the biological age of most tested children was higher than the developmental age in the scope of gross motor skills. Implementing new, individual therapeutic programs based, among other things, on TEEACH tasks, helped to significantly level out the differences.

This literature review analyzes eight specialized papers which focus on issues of the perceptual motor skills of children and pupils with mild intellectual disabilities. Children and pupils with mild intellectual disabilities have deficits in perceptual motor skills. The deficits of adaptive and intellectual skills of these children and pupils may be greater (mainly because of their conceptual and abstract reasoning) than their relative deficits of perceptual motor skills. Stronger perceptual motor skills in children and pupils with mild intellectual disabilities may be the target of school intervention as a means of alleviating problems in adaptive functions.

Motor skills, diversity of motor development, its versatility and dynamics in the very first stages of life depict how humans, initially helpless beings, in a short time master the skills to perform complex activates. Not only they begin to freely move in a world surrounding them but they gradually start to control it and put it under their command. Due to those factors, changes in motor skills of children are far more recognizable processes than differentiation, growth and going through puberty.
Sprawność motoryczna, bogactwo rozwoju ruchowego, wielostronność i dynamika w pierwszych etapach życia ukazują, jak człowiek, początkowo bezradny, w ciągu krótkiego okresu czasu opanowuje czynności złożone.

Purpose: To assess the basic motor skills and the effects of physical training improvement program in a group of adolescents. Material and methods: The study group comprised 133 students (92 women and 41 men) aged 17 to 19 years. First, the subjects’ motor skills were tested using the Eurofit Fitness Testing Battery. Second, the general improving program of physical training was implemented during the same school year. Third, the Eurofit test was repeated at one year after the initial one. The SPSS 15.0 software was used to analyse the data. Results: At the first measurement, only 2/133 students performed all the Eurofit tests on satisfactory (above the national sample 50%) level. In four of nine domains the results were below representative national sample. A year later, after completion of the training program, 37/133 students (27.1%) performed all Eurofit domains above the 50th percentile (P<0.001), the improvements were registered in previously deficit Eurofit Test constituencies. Conclusions: A low level of physical fitness has been observed in majority of adolescents. A general program of physical training leads to improvement of motor skills in a significant number of adolescents and the performance in the Eurofit test domains.

This paper contributes to the enhancing of a comparative study on the creative implementation of teaching methods in physical education sessions. We aim to determine the evolution of teacher representations related to the understanding of the particular practice of pole vaulting and its teaching by integrating a computer-video element into an educational environment. This study was carried out in two graduate classes of high school including (N = 44) students. These are two groups aged between 15 and 18 (One group of students was provided with verbal and gestural communication, while the other was asked to view a video). The pole vault learning cycle consisted of 14 sessions, divided between two sessions per week. The findings were consistent with the difference between methods of teaching in line with the respective tasks. Through this experiment and feedback from the lessons, we have been able to conclude that the use of Computer Communication Technology and specifically of the element of video footage, contributed to progress in motor learning for the large majority of students from the all group study. This research is open to the understanding and appreciation of how to best design video lectures that encourage learning and the development of knowledge.

Background. Obesity and a sedentary way of life play an important part in public health in Hungary. This phenomenon is becoming more and more serious not only in adults but also children. Adults’ health behaviour is greatly affected by the existence or absence of health awareness. Regular exercising in association with general fitness form an integral part of health awareness. Our objective is to demonstrate the nutrition and fitness status of students in higher education with a comprehensive test. Material and methods. Beside general factors affecting health, such as BMI, skeletal muscle, body fat, visceral fat percentage, participants performed practical tasks which provided data of their stamina, muscular strength and fitness status: (1) a 15/20-minute shuttle run, (2) a scheduled abdominal muscle test (3) manual clamping force measurement (4) a scheduled push up test (5) a standing long-jump test, and (6) a flexibility test. Results. According to our survey, young adults’ nutrition status was satisfactory, two third of them had normal BMI. Left manual clamping force and trunk stretching force in men, stamina and explosive power in women were significantly determined by BMI classification. Basing on these results, we can state that body weight has no effect on joint mobility. Conclusions. The present study draws attention to several former conclusions which suggest that more efforts are needed in higher education to improve health promotion of the youth. Introduction of compulsory physical education classes might facilitate further research which may follow-up the changes in the fitness status of young people.

Materiał i metody. Oprócz ogólnych czynników wpływających na zdrowie, takich jak BMI, mięśnie szkieletowe, tkanki tłuszczowej, tkanki tłuszczowej, uczestnicy wykonali zadania, które dostarczyły danych o ich wytrzymałości, sile mięśni, stanie sprawności: (1) 15/20-minutowy bieg (2) test mięśni brzucha (3) ręczny pomiar siły nacisku (4) test naciskowy (5) test długiego skoku (6) test elastyczności. Wyniki.
