Opis:
Motivation regulation has a profound effect on the students’ learning and associated achievement. Yet, to date, there is a lack of a brief and valid approach for systematically assessing the regulation of learning motivation from the perspective of psychometrics, especially for the high middle school students. This study develops a general scale for quantitatively assessing the learning motivation regulation of high middle students, based on the combination of literature analysis and open‑ended interviews in china General Learning Motivation Regulation Scale for Chinese High Middle School Students (GLMR‑CHMSS). A total of 2,304 questionnaires of high middle school students were included for item analysis and exploratory factor analysis, and another 2,304 questionnaires of high middle school students were subjected to confirmatory factor analyses and a validation and reliability test. The scale consisted of 24‑items that can be divided into four factors: intrinsic motivation regulation, extrinsic motivation regulation, volitional behavioural regulation, and self‑efficacy regulation. As indicated by the confirmatory factor analysis with the control group, the four‑factor structure model of the GLMR‑CHMSS fitted well (χ2 /df=7.839, RMSEA=0.054, CFI=0.918, TLI=0.908). In ad dition, using academic achievement as the empirical validity criterion, the scores of each factor of GLMR‑CHMSS and the scale score were significantly correlated with academic achievement were the reliability indicators. This study show cases a novel and valid tool for mesuring the degree of learning motivation regulation of high middle school students in China.

Opis:
This paper reviews the history of the distinctions that have been made, and the differences discovered, between promotion and prevention self-regulation. These include, respectively: (1) Nurturance versus security; (2) ideal (hopes) versus ought (duties) self-guides; (3) presence and absence of positive outcomes versus absence and presence of negative outcomes; (4) approaching matches to a desired end-state versus avoiding mismatches to a desired end-state; (5) eager for “hits” versus vigilant against “errors of commission”; (6) speed versus accuracy; (7) global/abstract versus local/concrete; and (8) intuitions versus reasons. A fundamental, “story of 0”, distinction between promotion and prevention self-regulation is then discussed: attaining “+1” from “0” versus maintaining “0” against “-1”, where “0” is a non-gain in the former and a non-loss in the latter. The paper then shows how each of the earlier distinctions and differences between promotion and prevention can be understood in terms of this fundamental distinction.

Opis:
Procrastination is generally understood as the practice of irrationally putting activities or tasks off to a later time. In the case of academic procrastination, it is a tendency to put off academic tasks. The main objective of the presented research study was to map strategies of Slovak university students used for overcoming academic procrastination, as well as to test the relationship of procrastination with potential protective factors-volitional regulation and achievement motivation. Based on the results of our research, strategies of social motivation and positive attitude are, on average, the most frequently used to overcome academic procrastination. Results of the research also confirmed a negative correlation of procrastination with volitional regulation and its dimensions, as well as with some dimensions of achievement motivation.
