Opis:
This paper investigates education-labor mismatch for university graduates in Poland using the HEGESCO survey. Mismatch refers to the level of discord between the job performed by an individual and its education and skills. We evaluate three different dimensions of mismatch: vertical (under-/overeducation), horizontal (wrong field of study for the job performed), and skills mismatch (under-/overskilled). We discuss our results in the light of the large increase in the demand for tertiary education as well as in the number of tertiary education institutions that occurred in Poland after the transition process from communism to market economy.

Objectives The effect of the combination of working hours and working time mismatch on depression is unknown. This study was undertaken to confirm the relationship between working time mismatch and depression with respect to hours worked. Material and Methods The data of 45 514 adult workers that participated in the 6th Korean Working Conditions Survey (KWCS‐VI 2020) were reviewed. Depression was defined using the World Health Organization 5 Well-Being Index (WHO-5) cut-off score of 50. Working time mismatch was defined as a difference between actual and desired working hours. To identify associations between working hour mismatch and depression according to weekly hours worked, stratification analysis was conducted by dividing the study subjects into 3 groups based on actual hours worked weekly (<40 h, 40–<52 h, or ≥52 h). Multiple logistic regression analysis adjusted for potential confounders was performed to calculate odds ratios of depression. Results In the <40 h, 40–<52 h, and ≥52 h groups, the odds ratios (OR) of working more hours than desired were 1.51, 95% CI: 1.20–1.92 (<40 h), 1.70, 95% CI: 1.58–1.84 (40–<52 h), and 1.55, 95% CI: 1.41–1.69 (≥52 h), respectively, compared to a matched actual versus desired working hours group (the matched group). On the other hand, the odds ratios of working fewer hours than desired were 1.17, 95% CI: 1.07–1.27 (<40 h), 1.38, 95% CI: 1.20–1.60 (40–<52 h), and 1.98, 95% CI: 1.24–3.17 (≥52 h), respectively. The risk of depression was found to increase significantly with working time mismatch within all 3 working hour groups. Conclusions Working time mismatch increases the risk of worker depression regardless of hours worked.

The paper describes the simulation and measurement results for a ground penetrating SAR radar. The main purpose of this paper is to present the complexity of the issues relating to GPR. Permittivity of the ground determination error causes the resolution deterioration of the resulting image therefore an important task of the digital signal processing is the correct estimation of the permittivity. The article presents several methods devoted to this subject. As a simulation model of SAR system the pulse radar with LFM (Linear Frequency Modulation) signal has been applied. The aim of the experiment is to test ability of the SAR system to obtain fully focused image of the underground targets. The real data measurements took place on the 6th floor at the Faculty of Electronics and Information – Warsaw University of Technology. During measurement campaign the GPR SAR demonstrator mounted on the rails wagon has been used to generate radar motion.

This paper analyses changes in overeducation incidence in Poland in 2006‑2014. It finds that a rise in number of tertiary educated workers outpaced an increase in number of jobs requiring tertiary education, which resulted in a substantial growth of overeducation incidence. The overeducation increase was driven mainly by mild overeducation rather than severe overeducation. Overeducated workers are usually young with little job experience. Women are found at lower risk of severe overeducation compared to men, but relatively more at risk of mild overeducation. A low risk of overeducation is associated with having studied technical and health programmes.

Effective discrimination of non-complementary nucleotides is an important factor to ensure the accuracy of hybridization-based nucleic acid analyses. The current study investigates the effects of the chemical nature, the positions, the numbers, and the cooperative behavior of mismatches as well as insertions on 20-mer and 30-mer duplexes. We observed the hybridization stability trend affected by mismatches: G:T ≈ G:G > G:A > A:A ≈ T:T > A:C ≈ T:C > C:C. The experimental data show that mismatches at the center of the oligonucleotide probes have a more profound destabilizing effect on the hybridization stability than those at either ends. Insertions also demonstrate a similar destabilizing effect as mismatches. These results provide useful information for designing DNA microarray nucleotide probes and for improving the discrimination accuracy of hybridization-based detections.

The educational expansion in many advanced economies in the past few decades has triggered a debate on overeducation. The aim of the study is to provide an empirical evaluation of the wage effects of overeducation in different occupational groups. We also analyse whether these effects differ between genders. In order to achieve this, we use individual data from the Structure of Wages and Salaries by Occupations database of firms with 10 or more employees in Poland. We use data from the 2006-2014 waves of the survey. We calculate the impact of overeducation on wages using a Mincer-type wage regression model. We show that on average workers are rewarded for being overeducated, but the size of wage effects of overeducation differs among particular occupational groups. We show also that the choice of the method of measurement of overeducation affects the results

This study provides a novel look at do so replacement within the framework of the Bare Phrase Structure theory. Unlike the previous view of do so as a monolithic VP anaphor, I argue that do so is better analyzed as do and so, separately substituting for a functional Voice head and VP, respectively. This argument is supported by the observation of VP adverbs, the locative/directional interpretation of PPs, and the analysis of voice mismatch. The study consequently presents a more refined model of VP than the previous X-bar theoretic model, as it fulfills the structural requirement between complements and adjuncts.

Recent research has reported that an increasing number of migrants in Norway are concentrated in the low-skilled sectors of the labour market, irrespective of their educational background, thus facilitating the formation of migrant niches in the long term. Despite the growing body of literature that raises the problem of downward professional mobility and deskilling among migrant populations, little scholarly attention has been paid to migrants’ struggles and vulnerabilities as a result of underemployment. Drawing on 30 in-depth interviews, this article explores the common experience of habitus mismatch and suffering among Poles who have worked below their level of competence or professional experience since migrating to Norway. By analysing subjective experiences of downward professional and social mobility and the conflict between valued and stigmatised identities, the article examines the various habitus mismatches that contribute to suffering in downwardly mobile Polish migrants.

The present study consisted of two experiments. The goal of the first experiment was to establish the just noticeable differences for the fundamental frequency of the vowel /u/ by using the 2AFC method. We obtained the threshold value for 27 cents. This value is larger than the motor reaction values which had been observed in previous experiments (e.g. 9 or 19 cents). The second experiment was intended to provide neurophysiological confirmation of the detection of shifts in a frequency, using event-related potentials (ERPs). We concentrated on the mismatch negativity (MMN) - the component elicited by the change in the pattern of stimuli. Its occurrence is correlated with the discrimination threshold. In our study, MMN was observed for changes greater than 27 cents - shifts of ±50 and 100 cents (effect size - Cohen’s d = 2.259). MMN did not appear for changes of ±10 and 20 cents. The results showed that the values for which motor responses can be observed are indeed lower than those for perceptual thresholds.

In model predictive control (MPC), methods of linear offset free MPC are well established such as the disturbance model, the observer method and the state disturbance observer method. However, the observer gain in those methods is difficult to define. Based on the drawbacks observed in those methods, a novel algorithm is proposed to guarantee offset-free MPC under model-plant mismatches and disturbances by combining the two proposed methods which are the proposed Recursive Kalman estimated state method and the proposed Disturbance-Kalman state method. A comparison is made from existing methods to assess the ability of providing offset-free MPC on Wood-Berry distillation column. Results shows that the proposed offset free MPC algorithm has better disturbance rejection performance than the existing algorithms.

Time-interleaved analog-to-digital converter (ADC) architecture is crucial to increase the maximum sample rate. However, offset mismatch, gain mismatch, and timing error between time-interleaved channels degrade the performance of time-interleaved ADCs. This paper focuses on the gain mismatch and timing error. Techniques based on Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) for estimating and correcting gain mismatch and timing error in an M-channel ADC are depicted. Numerical simulations are used to verify the proposed estimation and correction algorithm.

ObjectivesA cross-sectional study was conducted to investigate whether working hours mismatch is associated with workaholism.Material and MethodsThis study used the data from the 17th wave (2014) of the nationwide Korean Labor and Income Panel Study. Workaholism was evaluated using the Workaholism Analysis Questionnaire. The final study involved 3157 subjects who answered questions regarding both workaholism and working hours mismatch. To identify the association between working hours mismatch and workaholism according to weekly working hours, a stratification analysis was conducted by dividing the number of working hours/week into 3 groups (≤40 h, 41–59 h, and ≥60 h). The odds ratios were calculated using a multiple logistic regression model, which was adjusted for potential confounders.ResultsThe workers working more hours than desired showed the greatest frequency of workaholism. As regards workaholism, in all weekly working hours groups, the odds ratios of the group working more hours than desired were 4.28, 95% CI: 2.29–7.99 (≥40 h), 2.14, 95% CI: 1.34–3.43 (41–59 h), 3.40, 95% CI: 1.60–7.21 (≤60 h), which were statistically significant compared to the reference (matched) group. There was no statistically significant relationship between working hours and workaholism when stratified according to the mismatch in working hours.ConclusionsThe workers’ working hours mismatch can be significantly related to workaholism.

Green fluorescent protein (gfp) reporter gene and nptII marker gene were used to optimize Agrobacterium tumefaciens (agro) mediated transformation of wild Solanum genotypes resistant to late blight. Different genotypes of Solanum bulbocastanum, S. chacoense, S. microdontum and S. verrucosum were assessed for their regeneration ability on MS based media and for agro-mediated transformation. As the first step reporter genes were used to optimize transformation protocol for each species and then the transfer of genes involved in mismatch repair of DNA were attempted in Solanum chacoense. For transformation, either leaf or stem fragments were used. It was shown that gfp is a valuable and elegant tool for monitoring the efficiency of transformation or the occurrence of chimera in all genotypes. Transformation efficiency was dependent on a plant genotype. A number of genotypes have been successfully transformed and they expressed constitutively the bright green fluorescence of gfp without any side effects. The most recalcitrant species proved to be S. microdontum, which did not regenerate plants although different media and phytohormones had been used. The best protocol for S. chacoense transformation was also found to work in the transfer of msh2 genes. Msh2 isolated from Arabidopsis was used and transferred either as mutated (Apa) or antisense (As) gene. The integration of msh2-mutated gene into S. chacoense genome was demonstrated by PCR amplification and confirmed by RT-PCR for some of the putative transgenic clones. The implications of mismatch repair in homologous recombination and its importance for potato improvement are discussed.

The subject of the analysis presented in the text is an argument that tends to (and used to) be raised in the critical discourse on constitutionalism – the allegation of the so-called constitutional fetishism. The argument is to show why the constitutional discourse has lost its potential to explain and create social processes. The reason is that lawyers focus too much only on the content and interpretation of the provisions of the constitution, without considering a broader social context, which makes the constitutional discourse limited solely to legal issues with a simultaneous omission or underestimation of all other aspects of constitutionalism. This attitude of lawyers to the content of the constitution (or – in broader terms – to the provisions of law) is sometimes referred to even as idolatrous, hence the reference to the notion of fetishism in the religious sense. The aim of the text is to analyse the structure of this argument and to attempt to determine the impact it can have on constitutionalism.

After identifying a linguistic difference between the English quantifier most and the Japanese quantifier hotondo ‘most’ we set out to find if the semantic difference between the two would constitute a learning problem for Japanese second language (L2) learners of English. The difference we hypothesized between the two is that English most is considered “more than half,” while hotondo is “nearly all.” As this semantic difference is not explicitly taught in a classroom environment, acquisition by learners would need to take place through experiencing most in contexts where they might receive contextual clues. An examination of a corpus indicated that contextual clues towards such a semantic difference would be unavailable or rarely available. Two sets of experiments (Experiments 1 and 2) were conducted using the Truth Value Judgment Task methodology. The results of Experiment 1 showed that L2 speakers treated most as meaning “nearly all” but that the level of learner proficiency has an effect. The upper intermediate L2 learner group (Experiment 1a) behaved more like the L1 English speaker group (Experiment 1b) than the lower proficiency L2 group (Experiment 1c). Experiment 2, testing Japanese L1 speakers on their interpretation of Japanese hotondo ‘most,’ revealed that while a majority of participants treated hotondo as “almost all,” there was, somewhat unexpectedly, a group of speakers who interpreted hotondo to mean “more than half.” Therefore, although the possibility cannot completely be eliminated that the result of Experiment 1a is due to L1 transfer, if some Japanese learners of English can unlearn the incorrect meaning, then some prior, if not innate, knowledge that makes the process possible must be available to them.
