Opis:
Telecommunication systems in underground mines require reliable power supply both of stationary and underground devices. Special problems connected with power supply occur in a case when subscriber devices are located in explosion hazard areas. The paper presents the basic problems connected with power supply of stationary elements of safety systems as well as subscriber devices located in explosion hazard areas that are significantly distant from stationary elements. Acceptable methods of supplying the subscribers devices under technical environment conditions of mine undergrounds have been determined.

The article deals with problems connected to crisis management regarding mining companies. In accordance with adequate decrees, mining companies, including mining plants, belong to objects towards which crisis management rules should be applied. In mining plants, apart from underground threats, ground threats that lead to a crisis situation might also emerge on the entrepreneur’s territory. By this reason, they should be guided by the principles for the preparation for their special protection through conceptual, planning, organizational, logistic, technical, training and control activities taken to develop, agree and update specific protection plans, implement projects under the alert and notification system, and exchange information on threats. A summary of possible hazards to a particular site and a separate mining plant facility, assessment and risk control are essential to develop a safety concept and prevent risks. There is a need of continual analyses of potential threats and actions taken to eliminate them, and if they occur the rapid response of individual services and appropriate integrated rescue operations.

Opis:
Shelters are used to protect miners from exposure to harmful gases and for the work of rescuers. Such shelters are built in a niche adjacent to the mine working. The purpose of this work is a numerical study of the stress state of a coal-rock massif with a mine working and a shelter, their stability in various mining and geological conditions and with various supporting schemes. Numerical simulation of the stress state of a coal-rock massif with a mine working and a shelter was performed; their stability was studied in various mining and geological conditions and with various supporting schemes. It is shown that, over time, near-contour rocks are unloaded from rock pressure, and an area of increased difference of the stress tensor compo-nents expands around the mine working and the shelter. This leads to cracks formation of varying degrees of intensity. When the mine working with the shelter is driven at a shallow depth in hard rocks, the basic scheme, which consists mainly of metal frames and a reinforced concrete barrier, is sufficient for their supporting. If the host rocks are weaker, the stability of the mine working and the shelter is broken and it is necessary to strengthen their supporting with rock bolts. In the bolted area, the rocks are in triaxial compression conditions, a rock-bolts arch is formed above the mine working and the shelter, which pre-vents the displacement of the roof rocks into the mine working and increases its stability. With an increase in the depth of min-ing operations, the stability of the mine working decreases; the inelastic deformation zone in the mine walls grows; the load on the support increases. For the rock-bolts arch formed in the mine roof, supports are required in the walls of the mine working and the shelter. For this purpose, side rock bolts are installed. The use of an appropriate supporting scheme leads to a de-crease of the area of inelastic deformation zone by 2.5 times and the area of the zone unloaded from rock pressure by 2.6 times. Thus, such schemes for supporting the mine working and the shelter are selected, which ensure their stability in the considered mining and geological conditions.
Prowadzi to do powstawania pęknięć o rożnym stopniu intensywności.

MICMAC method
Opis:
The article presents the methodology for assessing the longevity of hard coal mines. Based on inter-national experts’ assessments, important criteria for determining mine viability have been presented. The results refer to Polish coal mines in the area of the Upper Silesian Coal Basin, however, the methodology itself can be applied to other geological and mining conditions of mines elsewhere. The results of structural analyses carried out using the MICMAC method for factors related to the mining geo-environment that may determine the longevity of individual hard coal mines are presented. The analyses were based on the results of expert surveys carried out using the Delphi method. The experts participating in the survey came from various countries and had extensive experience related to work or cooperation with hard coal mining. The criterion factors examined were assigned to two systems (groups) for which structural analysis was performed. The first group includes factors related to the level of exploitation hampering, while the second group includes factors related to hard coal quality and the availability of resources. As a result of the analyses the following were determined: the key factors which have the most significant influence on the system, result and goal factors, factors affecting the system and autonomous factors which have little effect on the system. The obtained results allowed to determine which factors should be taken into account in the process of determining the longevity of a hard coal mine.

Opis:
Introduction: This study focuses on accidents in artisanal mining, to support policies improving miners' employability. Materials and Methods: Based on a questionnaire administered in November 2009 to a sample of 180 miners from the artisanal mining of LUPOTO, in the Province of Katanga, we explored significant trends between the accidents and their consequences and behavioral or sociological variables. Results: During the 12 months preceding the study, 392 accidents occurred, affecting 72.2% of miners. Tools handling represents 51.5%, of the accidents' causes, followed by handling heavy loads (32.9%). Factors such as age, seniority or apprenticeship did not generate significant differences. Contusions were the most common injuries (50.2%), followed by wounds (44.4%). These injuries were located in upper limbs (50.5%) and in lower limbs (29.3%). 80.5% of miners were cared for by their colleagues and 50% of them could not work for more than 3 days. Physical sequelae were reported by 19% of the injured miners. Discussion: Many surveys related to accidents in the area of artisanal mining report such high frequency. The unsuitability of tools to jobs to be done is usually raised as one of the major causes of accidents. The lack of differentiation of the tasks carried out in relation to age is another factor explaining the lack of protective effect of seniority as it minimizes the contribution of experience in the worker's safety. The apprenticeship reported is inadequate; it is rather a learning by doing than anything else. That is why it lacks protective effect. Low income combined with precariousness of artisanal mining are likely to explain the low level of work stoppages. Conclusion: Tools improvement associated with adequate training seem to be the basis of accident prevention. Availability of suitable medical care should improve artisanal miners' recovery after accidents.

This paper addresses the protection of the environment and provides a design for the use of the deposit after the cessation of mining in the Novoveská Huta region. The area of interest of this case study describes the practical transformation of a functioning mining operation into a mining museum in order to reduce the pressures on the environment after mining. The resulting model of the functioning of the mining museum also deals in detail with the safety of a mining operation which is no longer used for mining, taking into account its further use. The article describes the proposed 1700-metre route which visitors will pass along, and also gives a detailed description of the proposed measures necessary for safety and long-term sustainable operation. The aim was to design a use of the mining space, that would offer visitors the opportunity to see the handling space and mining methods of the deposit. An interesting element will also be the possibility of inspecting the explosives store, wall linings, steel and wooden reinforcements. The tour will also include a demonstration of storage facilities as well as a Karlik's wheel mining equipment with a rope loop. The open-air museum also offers the opportunity to get acquainted with transport around the entire deposit under strict safety conditions. It is assumed that devices such as a mining telephone or a siren placed on the walls of the tunnel will also arouse interest. An important element of the entire tour would also be a constant reminder of the safety rules during the tour. The impacts of this solution on the environment are very acceptable and incomparably more beneficial than in the case of the termination of mining and subsequent non-use of the Novoveská Huta deposit.

During mechanical disintegration of the rock, for mining works are used also roadheaders. Roadheaders, in comparison with disintegration by blasting operations can without interuption, and works changes with one machine, dissolve, load and at the same time mine disintegrated rock. These electro-hydraulic machines cause no harmful vibrations and are ideal for mining coal and other soft rock minerals. Mechanical mining is safer, protects the rock environment, allows mining without further breaks, allows you to achieve a higher level of daily progress and also saves work. The analysis of occupational accidents in the Slovak Republic shows that it is necessary require from employees increased attention in any work activity and attention in the work performed (mainly work in handling material, objects and burdens). In the underground coal mines further attention needs to be paid to securing hazardous areas, it is necessary to proceed in such a way as to prevent as much as possible the fall of rock as much as possible Underground roads require modification and equipment in accordance with regulations. It is necessary to follow health and safety instructions mentioned in operating and maintenance documentation. Correction of some deficiencies is ordered by a decision of the Mining Office. Most measures are aimed at adhering to technological discipline, to complement operating documentation, to prevent rock falls, to equip some machinery and transport equipment, to work procedures for handling loads, to maintenance of mining works and for explosion and anti-vapor prevention. In this article, we assess the safety risks of two roadheaders for coal mining works in Slovak conditions. Pairwise comparisons of the criteria of selected roadheaders were used to determine the safety risks, as well as taking into account the risks and safety measures according to the mixed methods following to the standard.

Impact of the method of suspension and route stabilization of suspended monorail on forces loading the roadway roof support system is presented. This is important in the context of possible increasing the speed of monorails during personnel movement. Nature of load and displacement of the route, as well as deceleration of the transport set, with a dynamic excitation - an emergency braking of the transport set, are presented. The results are presented for seven configurations of slings and lashings stabilizing the route. The Head Injury Criterion (HIC), recorded using the Articulated Total Body (HYBRID III) model, during the impact of operator's cabin against an obstacle, is presented in the further part of the article. Analyzes are aimed at developing the guidelines to ensure safety of mining personnel (without exceeding the accepted overloads) and mining infrastructure (without exceeding the maximum accepted load of the roadway support) during operation of the suspended monorail at higher speed. Analyzes are the result of the authors numerical simulations.

Introduction. Employees performing work underground in coal mines are exposed to the effect of many hazardous factors in their work environment which negatively affect their health. Objective. The objective of the study was to recognize the opinions of employes working underground in one of the coal mines concerning the occurrence of factors hazardous for health in their work environment. Materials and method. The study was conducted in a group of 700 persons working underground in the ‘Bogdanka’ coal mine in Łęczna (Eastern Poland). The study was carried out using a questionnaire. The results were statistically analyzed using software STATISTICA v. 7.1. Results. The vast majority of respondents (approximately 80%) reported that noise and dustiness at their workplace create risk for their health. More than a half of them mentioned that the microclimate in the mine threatens their health (high humidity and high temperature), and a half of respondents indicated vibration and poor lighting. The greatest differences of opinions concerning the effect of hazardous factors on health of persons employed in the mine were observed in the sub-groups distinguished according to the work position. Health risk at a workplace was most often identified by those employed as miners. Conclusions. Among actions reducing the negative effect of the work environment on health is the introduction of new, safer technologies of coal mining. Also, the human factor is very important for work safety in mining, including the proper preparation of employees who undertake work in a mine. It is recommended that new, more effective educational programmes are implemented in the area of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) at workplaces.

The environmental conditions in the Gulf of Finland vary significantly in different locations. In addition, the gulf is a busy and important area for waterway traffic and international trade throughout the year. In summer, the area is ideal for recreational activities such as boating and other water-related activities. Water accidents occur due to different factors and under varying weather conditions. This paper introduces a visual data mining analysis applied to Search and Rescue (SAR) missions related to recreational boating. Starting from a SAR operations database, an integrated database was constructed by adding weather and wave data. The aim was to compare the different mission types as well as the activity of different SAR organisations during challenging wind and wave conditions. The investigation was performed using visual analysis techniques. The densest areas of challenging wind and wave conditions were found in the western and eastern parts of the gulf. Other investigated parameters were travelled distances and occurrence of the incidents during different times of day. A more detailed analysis was conducted for one dataset.

Opis:
The exploitation of mineral resources with underground mining methods is becoming more and more difficult due to the mining and geological conditions in which these resources are present. This is related to the depth of retention and thickness of the exploited deposits (seams), more cohesive and durable rocks, and climatic conditions. The excavation of access and preparatory roadways as well as exploitation under such conditions require specially designed and manufactured machines. In recent years in the Department of Mining, Dressing, and Transport Machine at AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, a number of innovative solutions of machines and devices have been developed that can be used to work under difficult mining and geological conditions. This article presents selected solutions of these machines and devices – a mining head for a roadheader with asymmetrical disc tools with a complex motion trajectory, a temporary, mechanized, and walking roadway support, a unique longwall complex with a single-cutting head shearer used for thin coal seam exploitation, and an innovative mining and hauling system for mechanical shaft drilling using a shaft shearer.

The roof support, especially the ŁP yielding steel arch support, is transported and assembled in the face with the use of auxiliary machines. This activity in Polish underground mines causes numerous problems, which until present have not been solved. Currently, transport and assembly are carried out manually, while the roadheader and suspended rail are used only to a small extent. Therefore, the modular installation and transport assembly was developed jointly by FAMA Sp. z o. o. and AGH University of Science and Technology. The solution in question enables performing a number of functions (including transport and assembly of all kinds of support arches), which are not available in currently manufactured equipment. The proposed manipulator solves numerous problems occurring during the installation of the steel arch support in an underground mining excavation and significantly improves the process of drilling galleries. This innovative solution considerably differs from the existing ones, and its greatest advantage is versatility with regard to the cross-section and equipment of the roadway, as well as a wide range of functions. In addition, it can also be used for reloading works. The modular installation and transport assembly together with a platform, a temporary mechanized roof support and a mining machine, make up a mechanizes roadheader complex, which enables continuous mining, loading and installing the permanent support in underground workings.

Opis:
Blasting operations are a risk to the lives of mining workers. Blasting gases are particularly dangerous factors – these are the products from detonations which come from applying explosives which contain toxic nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide. The aim of this study was the experimental determination of the composition of the blasting gases from a variety of explosives currently being produced in Poland. On the basis of research results, analysis was carried out. To perform research of the composition of blasting gases, after the detonation of explosives, a laboratory test stand was used. The study involved the determination of gaseous products, i.e. nitrogen oxides and carbon oxides. Research was carried out in accordance with research methodology based on European Directive 93/15/EEC and the harmonized standard PN-EN 13631-16. These studies provided information on the amount of harmful gaseous products from mining explosives after detonation.

Opis:
In comparison with other industrial complexes, mining enterprises generate the most multifold negative impact on all environmental components: atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere. In the current context of resource limitation, the objective assessment of the level of environmental safety of different technology concepts and organizational decisions, mining enterprises is a vital need. Today, there are three different approaches to environmental safety assessment of industrial enterprises. The main disadvantages of these approaches are complication in specific environmental consideration of mining enterprises; difficulty of top environmental target selection, subjectivity of enterprises ranking by level of environmental safety. It was proposed a new approach of environmental safety and negative impact assessment (with help of integral environmental hazard index of mining) in the light of specific features of mining. It is based on complex affine environmental, technology and geological factors. This approach is admitting to rank mining enterprises in negative impact descending order, define top environmental targets for mining enterprises and the most effective every environmental action.
W porównaniu z innymi gałęziami przemysłu, przedsiębiorstwa górnicze generują najbardziej negatywny wpływ na wszystkie komponenty środowiska: atmosferę, hydrosferę, litosferę. W obecnej sytuacji ubożenia zasobów, istnieje potrzeba oceny poziomu bezpieczeństwa środowiskowego dla różnych technologii. Obecnie istnieją trzy sposoby oceny bezpieczeństwa środowiskowego przedsiębiorstw przemysłowych. Główne wady tych rozwiązań to skomplikowane rozwiązania technologiczne przedsiębiorstw górniczych, trudności w wyborze rozwiązania docelowego, subiektywność rankingu rozwiązań.
